Bank of America's hiring process has four steps: find a role, apply, interview, and receive an offer. Interviews can be by phone, video or in person, with HR, business managers and sometimes future peers, and may include exercises and assessments.
Everything below comes from Bank of America's careers pages, linked as we go. Where the bank doesn't say something, we say so rather than guess. The interview questions are ones to prepare for; Bank of America doesn't publish its questions.

What is the Bank of America hiring process?
You search for a role, apply through the bank's portal and get a confirmation email. If you're selected, a Talent Acquisition professional contacts you. The bank's hiring process page says interviews may follow, along with exercises and assessments "to measure key aptitudes and values", and then an offer.
Some useful details from the bank's hiring FAQs:
- Only the strongest applicants reach the hiring manager. Many people meet the minimum qualifications, so the bank says your resume may be your only chance to show you're qualified. Tailor it to the skills each role asks for.
- Your profile can be considered for other roles. The hiring process page says candidate profiles and resumes may be considered for other vacancies.
- You can track or withdraw applications under "My Applications" when you log in.
- The process varies by country, so read the page for the region you're applying in.
Bank of America describes its approach as skills-first hiring, so make your skills easy to find on your resume.

Does Bank of America have an online assessment?
Some roles do. Bank of America's FAQs say that if a role requires an assessment, Global Talent Acquisition will email or call you with instructions. Its rules:
- Take each assessment you're sent, even if you think you've taken it before. The bank says similar assessments can differ.
- If you're unsuccessful, you can generally retake the same assessment after six months.
- Results aren't shared. Global Talent Acquisition says it can't give details about assessment results.
- Technical problems: follow the troubleshooting steps in your invitation email and wait until the issue is fixed before you continue.
- Accommodations: if you have a disability and need an accommodation, the FAQs give a phone number to call, and say a response can take up to two business days.
The bank doesn't name its assessments or publish what they contain, how long they take or how they're scored. Treat question counts and formats on prep sites as unconfirmed. If your assessment shows you workplace scenarios and asks what you'd do, it's a situational judgement format, which our guide to situational judgement tests explains in general.
What is the Bank of America interview process?
On its main hiring process page, Bank of America says interviews are a mix of phone calls, in-person conversations and video interviews with HR, business managers and possibly peers. The bank shares the hiring manager's name with you in your interview logistics if you're invited.
For students and graduates, the application process page sets out the stages by region.
The on-demand video interview (US and Canada)
For students in the US and Canada, the process includes an on-demand (recorded) video interview. Bank of America says:
- The questions are primarily behavioural and open-ended, though you may be asked about projects or experiences.
- You get 30 seconds to prepare and up to three minutes to respond to each question.
- There are no follow-up questions, so explain how and why you did something without being asked.
- Allow about 20 to 30 minutes for the whole interview.
- Dress professionally and choose a quiet spot without a distracting backdrop or echo.
- You can note down points to cover, but don't read a script.
Our guides to one-way video interviews and HireVue interview questions explain how recorded interviews work and how to practise for them.
Later rounds
First- and second-round interviews (where they apply) are held by phone, on-demand video, on campus or at a Bank of America office. The final round varies by line of business and typically includes interviews with people from the business area you're applying to.
Outside the US and Canada
- EMEA: an online application with a CV upload, competency questions and a video interview, then a mix of phone and video interviews, which can include exercises and assessments. The bank calls this stage an assessment centre.
- APAC: an online application form and a digital interview on the HireVue platform, then one or more competency-based interviews, some with a group or presentation exercise.
- India: the bank asks students to check with their university careers services.
How long does the Bank of America hiring process take?
Bank of America doesn't publish an end-to-end timeline. What it does say:
- After the line of business interview, next steps could take two to four weeks, depending on the role and how many people applied.
- US student recruiting for Analyst Internship and Full-Time roles runs on a rolling basis once applications open, so apply early.
- In Canada, full-time recruiting typically runs from August to September, and summer internship recruiting from November to January.
- In EMEA, applications for Summer, Off-Cycle and Full-time programmes opened on 1 September 2026 and closed on 11 October 2026.
- Start dates vary by location and circumstance. The bank says it aims to get you started as soon as possible.
What happens after the Bank of America interview?
You'll be contacted by email or phone about next steps. If the team decides to move forward, an offer of employment is extended, and once you accept you sign a formal contract letter.
Check any message against what the bank says on its recruitment scams page:
- Official recruitment emails end in @bofa.com. Check the sender's address for misspellings or added words.
- Interviews happen only on HireVue, Teams, Webex or Zoom, never in chat rooms such as Google Hangouts.
- Bank of America never asks for payment or for your personal banking information during recruitment.
- You never pay for equipment, technology or software, and the FAQs say travel for required interviews is reimbursed.
Common Bank of America interview questions and how to answer them
These are questions to prepare for, especially for behavioural video interviews. Bank of America lists four core values: Deliver together, Act responsibly, Realize the power of our people and Trust the team. Its mission page talks about driving Responsible Growth, and its stated purpose is making financial lives better. Several answers below draw on them.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it to about a minute: your background, one achievement that fits the role, and why you applied to Bank of America. On a video interview, practise this one until it fits comfortably inside three minutes.
2. Why Bank of America?
Name something specific: the line of business you're applying to, a programme, or how its purpose of making financial lives better links to what you want to do. Avoid general answers about size.
3. Why this role or line of business?
Show you understand what the team does and which of your skills it needs. Mention one thing you've done that's close to the work.
4. Tell me about a time you worked on a team to deliver something.
Use the STAR method. Show your own part and how you helped the group finish. This maps to Deliver together.
5. Tell me about a time you made a decision with incomplete information.
Explain the risk you saw, how you weighed it and what you'd do differently. Disciplined risk management sits under Act responsibly, so show you thought before acting.
6. Tell me about a time you saw something that wasn't right and spoke up.
Pick a real example where you raised a concern or corrected an error. Integrity is at the centre of Act responsibly.
7. Tell me about a time you worked with someone very different from you.
Show that you listened and learnt from a different view. The value Realize the power of our people includes respecting differences in thought, background and experience.
8. Tell me about a time you relied on someone else to get something done.
Describe how you shared the work, followed up and held yourself accountable for your part. That's Trust the team.
9. Tell me about a time you helped a customer or client.
Explain what they needed, what you did and the result. For client-facing roles, show you put their needs first while staying within the rules.
10. Tell me about a project you're proud of.
The video interview has no follow-up questions, so cover the why: why you chose the approach, what you'd change, and what you learnt.
11. Tell me about a time you failed.
Choose a real setback, own it and focus on what changed afterwards. Keep the failure part short and the learning part longer.
12. Do you have any questions for us?
In live interviews, ask about the team's priorities this year, how success is measured in the first six months, or the training the programme offers.

- Record yourself or do a mock interview to check your pace and clarity.
- Learn the four values and link each STAR story to one of them.

Practising realistic work tasks
Video interviews reward clear, prepared stories. Assessments and later rounds reward judgement on realistic problems, and that improves with practice. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with Bank of America and doesn't use Bank of America's assessments or questions.
