Wells Fargo's hiring process has five steps: get started, apply, review, interview and consider an offer, with support throughout. Depending on the role, you may also do a recruiter phone screen, a recorded video screen or a screening assessment before the interviews.
Everything below comes from Wells Fargo's careers pages, linked as we go. Where the bank doesn't say something, we say so rather than guess. The interview questions are ones to prepare for; Wells Fargo doesn't publish its questions.

What is the Wells Fargo hiring process?
You apply online, your application is reviewed, you complete any screens the role requires, you interview, and you receive an offer if you're selected. Wells Fargo sets this out on its hiring process page.
Useful details from its careers FAQ:
- One application per opening. You can't apply to several jobs with one application.
- No changes after you submit. The FAQ says the application, resume and attachments can't be changed once submitted.
- Track your status in the My Application panel on Candidate Home. Recruiter and hiring manager contact details aren't shown there.
- Withdrawing is final for that job. If you withdraw, the tool stops you reapplying to that opening.
- If you're declined, you can't reapply to the same opening, but you can apply to other requisitions, including ones with the same title.
- Accommodations for applying or interviewing are available through the request process the FAQ describes.

What is the Wells Fargo interview process?
Wells Fargo says its interview process varies by business group. Formats may include phone, group or one-on-one interviews with a hiring manager or recruiter.
Before the main interviews, you may meet one or both of these screens, both described in the FAQ:
- Recruiter phone screen. Wells Fargo says many positions require one. If you're selected, you'll be contacted to schedule it: depending on the role, you may be invited to self-schedule or Recruiting may contact you directly.
- On-Demand Screen (ODS). Wells Fargo describes it as "a type of preliminary interview where applicants record video responses to pre-set questions". The invitation comes from a third-party company, and Wells Fargo asks you to follow its instructions as quickly as possible.
Wells Fargo doesn't publish how many questions an On-Demand Screen has or how long you get for each answer. Our guide to one-way video interviews explains how recorded interviews work and how to practise for them.
For live video interviews, Wells Fargo says it uses approved enterprise platforms such as Microsoft Teams, and never free or consumer chat platforms such as Google Hangouts or Discord.
Does Wells Fargo have an online assessment?
For some roles. Wells Fargo's FAQ says it "requires job screening assessments for a small number of job types". If your role needs one, you get an email with instructions for that job. Its rules:
- Follow the instructions for that specific job, as the FAQ asks.
- Outcomes are reused. An assessment outcome is generally valid for six months, and any requisition with the same assessment uses that outcome in that period.
- Outcomes are private. Only recruiters and the manager for that job can see your result.
Wells Fargo doesn't name its assessments or say which job types need one, what they contain, how long they take or how they're scored. Treat question counts and formats on prep sites as unconfirmed. If your assessment shows workplace scenarios and asks what you'd do, it's a situational judgement format, which our guide to situational judgement tests explains in general.
How long does the Wells Fargo hiring process take?
Wells Fargo doesn't publish an end-to-end timeline. It says it will keep you informed of next steps and expected timing during the interview stage, and that it will contact you if your background matches its hiring needs.
For students, its early careers application process page gives the recruiting calendar:
- Internship applications open from mid-June to July and stay open through the autumn, closing on a rolling basis.
- Full-time roles typically open from August to September, based on intern conversion.
- Corporate & Investment Banking Summer 2028 internships open in January 2027.
Apply early: rolling deadlines mean some programmes can close before the season ends.
What happens after the Wells Fargo interview?
Wells Fargo's hiring process page says the next step is to consider an offer, weighing its culture, benefits, the company's health, its reputation as an employer and pay. It also encourages you to ask questions throughout the process.
Check any message about an offer against Wells Fargo's recruitment scam alert:
- Recruiters email from an address ending in @wellsfargo.com.
- Wells Fargo never asks for payment at any stage of hiring.
- It won't ask for sensitive personal information, such as bank account details, during the application process.
- If something looks wrong, don't respond, and report it through the contact on that page.
Common Wells Fargo interview questions and how to answer them
These are questions to prepare for, for phone screens, recorded video screens and live interviews. Wells Fargo's culture page sets out six Company Expectations that apply to every employee: Embrace candor, Do what's right, Be great at execution, Learn and grow, Champion inclusion, and Build high-performing teams (for managers). Several answers below draw on them.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it to about a minute: your background, one achievement that fits the role, and why you applied to Wells Fargo. On a recorded screen, practise it so it fits comfortably in the time you're given.
2. Why Wells Fargo?
Be specific: the business group you're applying to, the programme, or the kind of customers you'd serve. Link it to something you've read on its careers site rather than its size.
3. Why this role?
Show you understand the work and which of your skills it needs. Mention one thing you've done that's close to it.
4. Tell me about a time you gave or received difficult feedback.
This maps to Embrace candor: clear, honest feedback and respectful debate. Use the STAR method and show how you delivered or took the feedback and what changed.
5. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when it wasn't the easy option.
This maps to Do what's right, which includes high standards in how you treat others and taking ownership of problems. Pick a real example where you raised an issue or fixed a mistake.
6. Tell me about a time you saw a problem and took ownership of it.
Describe the problem, why it was yours to fix, what you did and the result. Ownership sits under Do what's right.
7. Tell me about a goal you set and how you tracked it.
This maps to Be great at execution: clear goals, tracking results, using data, and delivering quality work on time. Give the numbers you tracked and how you hit the deadline.
8. Tell me about a time you had to learn something difficult quickly.
This maps to Learn and grow, which includes welcoming challenges and seeking feedback. Show how you learnt and how you used it.
9. Tell me about a time you worked with people from different backgrounds.
This maps to Champion inclusion: valuing differences and building trust. Show how you included others and what the team gained.
10. Tell me about a time you helped a customer with a problem.
Explain what the customer needed, how you found out, what you did and the result. For branch and service roles, show patience and accuracy.
11. Tell me about a time you handled several priorities at once.
Explain how you decided what came first, how you kept others informed and what you delivered on time.
12. For managers: tell me about how you built or developed a team.
This maps to Build high-performing teams: attracting and keeping strong people, setting a clear vision and holding people accountable. Give one hire and one development example.
13. Do you have any questions for us?
Wells Fargo encourages candidates to ask questions throughout. Ask about the team's priorities, how success is measured in the first six months, or the training the role offers.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with Wells Fargo and doesn't use Wells Fargo's assessments or questions.
