Sam’s Club Hiring Process 2026: Steps and Interview

The short answer

Sam’s Club, part of Walmart, hires through Walmart’s careers site: an online application of about 20 to 25 minutes (no resume needed), an assessment for some positions, an interview and an offer. Walmart says it tries to respond within a week of you applying. It doesn’t publish a full timeline or its interview questions.

  • Hourly applications stay active for 60 days, and you can change your position preferences in that time.
  • You can’t edit an application after you submit it.
  • The Sam’s Club job description we checked lists four values: respect the individual, act with integrity, serve customers and members, strive for excellence.
  • Walmart recommends answering interview questions with the STAR method.

Sam's Club's hiring process runs through an online application, an assessment for some positions, an interview and an offer. Sam's Club is part of Walmart, and its jobs are on Walmart's careers site, whose hiring process FAQ covers "Walmart and Sam's Club". A first application takes about 20 to 25 minutes, and Walmart says it tries to respond within a week.

Everything below comes from Walmart's and Sam's Club's own careers and corporate pages, linked as we go. Where they don't say something, we say so rather than guess. Because Sam's Club uses Walmart's hiring system, much of this matches our Walmart hiring process guide.

What is the Sam's Club hiring process?

You apply online, complete any assessment the role requires, interview with the club or team if you're selected, and get an offer. The rules are the same as Walmart's because the two brands share a hiring system: the careers FAQ answers questions for both.

Sam's Club's careers home groups jobs into clubs, corporate, technology and healthcare. In the clubs, roles include cashier, front-end and membership services, food and grocery, the café, general merchandise and stocking, digital pickup and delivery, retail management, the fuel station, auto services, maintenance, and security and asset protection.

How do you apply to Sam's Club?

You apply on careers.walmart.com, filtering by the Sam's Club brand. The hiring FAQ says:

  • No resume required. You'll enter your job history in the application. You can add a resume, LinkedIn profile or portfolio if you want to.
  • About 20 to 25 minutes for your first application. Later ones are quicker because your details are saved.
  • Hourly roles go through the Walmart Online Hiring Center, where you can save your work and come back later.
  • No changes after you submit. Walmart's advice page repeats this: make sure everything is finalised before you hit submit.
  • Current Walmart or Sam's Club associates apply through the career site on OneWalmart.
  • Visa sponsorship is available for certain professional or specialised management positions.

Read the job description before you apply. Sam's Club listings set out the duties and any minimum qualifications, which vary by role. The liquor cashier listing we checked, for example, requires you to be 18 or older.

Does Sam's Club have an assessment?

Some positions do. The hiring FAQ says certain positions require assessments to be considered, and that these may add time to your application. You'll see a confirmation screen once you've finished the application and any required assessments.

Neither Sam's Club nor Walmart publishes what the assessments contain, which roles need them, how long they take or how they're scored. Treat question counts and retake rules you read elsewhere as unconfirmed.

If an assessment shows you workplace scenarios and asks what you would do, it's a situational judgement format. Our guide to situational judgement tests explains how that format works in general. Set aside quiet, uninterrupted time, read every option, and answer as you actually work.

What is the Sam's Club interview like?

Sam's Club doesn't publish an interview format, length or number of rounds, and it varies by role and location. The person who schedules your interview can tell you who you'll meet and how long to allow.

Walmart's advice to applicants applies to both brands:

  • Research the company's values, mission and recent investments on corporate.walmart.com.
  • Practise your answers with the STAR method (situation, task, action, result).

The Sam's Club job description we checked also lists the values each associate is expected to show, which tells you what the interviewer is likely to listen for:

ValueWhat the Sam's Club job description says
Respect the IndividualWorks as a team, builds trusting relationships, helps and develops others
Act with IntegrityUpholds high standards of integrity, ethics and compliance; honest, fair and transparent
Serve our Customers and MembersDelivers results while putting the customer first
Strive for ExcellenceShows curiosity and a desire to learn; drives continuous improvement

How long does the Sam's Club hiring process take?

Neither Sam's Club nor Walmart publishes an end-to-end timeline. What the hiring FAQ says:

  • The first application takes about 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Walmart tries to respond within a week of your application, though some take longer depending on the position, its location and how popular it is.
  • If you're not selected for an interview, you'll be told.

What happens after the Sam's Club interview?

The hiring FAQ doesn't describe the steps after an interview. What you can rely on:

  • Track your status in your Walmart Careers account. Walmart lists the statuses as under review, interview scheduled and position filled, and it emails important updates.
  • If you're selected, you're contacted with an offer.
  • Walmart Inc. participates in E-Verify, the US government system that confirms work eligibility from the I-9 form you complete when you're hired.
  • If you're not selected, your hourly application stays in the system for 60 days and you can change your preferences to other positions. You can apply for non-hourly roles at Walmart and Sam's Club whenever you like.

If you need an accommodation at any stage, the FAQ asks you to contact your manager, recruiter or recruiting coordinator.

Sam's Club interview questions to prepare for

Sam's Club doesn't publish its interview questions. These are the questions to prepare for, based on the values and duties in a Sam's Club job description and Walmart's advice to applicants. For "tell me about a time" questions, use the STAR method.

1. Why do you want to work at Sam's Club?

Be specific. Sam's Club describes its clubs as running on "members helping members", and it gives associates a complimentary Sam's Club membership. If you shop there, say what you like about it.

2. What does good member service mean to you?

Sam's Club calls its customers members. The listing we checked describes member service as acknowledging the member, identifying their needs, helping with purchasing decisions, locating merchandise and resolving issues. Use those steps in your answer, with a real example if you have one.

3. Tell me about a time you helped a customer who was upset.

"Serve our Customers and Members" means putting the customer first. Use a STAR story showing you listened, stayed calm, fixed what you could and brought in a supervisor when it was beyond you.

4. What is your availability?

The Sam's Club listing we checked says "shifts may vary". Answer honestly and only offer shifts you can work.

5. What would you do if you saw something unsafe in the club?

The first duty in the Sam's Club listing we checked is safety: safety sweeps, forklift spotting procedures and reporting unsafe situations to management. Say you'd make the area safe, report it and not walk past it.

6. How do you keep a register accurate and reduce losses?

The cashier listing we checked asks associates to process purchases, returns and exchanges correctly for different membership and payment types, and to reduce shrink (lost or stolen stock) by following procedures. Explain the habits that keep you accurate, such as counting back change and checking carts.

7. Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team.

"Respect the Individual" in the job description includes working as a team and building trusting relationships. Pick a time you helped a colleague or covered a task outside your role when it was busy.

8. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when it was harder.

"Act with Integrity" asks for honesty, fairness and transparency. Choose a simple, real example: owning up to a mistake, or following a rule such as checking ID when it would have been easier not to. For liquor roles, Sam's Club requires associates to verify member identification.

9. Tell me about something new you learned quickly.

"Strive for Excellence" includes curiosity, a desire to learn and being open to new technology. Talk about learning a new system, product range or process and how you got up to speed.

10. How do you keep shelves and displays in good order?

The same listing asks associates to stock merchandise, set up and organise displays, remove damaged goods and price items correctly. Describe how you work tidily and quickly, and how you'd balance stocking with helping members who ask for help.

How to prepare for the Sam's Club hiring process

  1. Pick roles that fit your availability and read each job description's duties and minimum qualifications.
  2. Have your job history ready, with dates, before you start the application.
  3. Check the application before you submit. You can't change it afterwards.
  4. Do any assessment somewhere quiet, in one sitting if you can.
  5. Learn the four values in the Sam's Club job description and prepare a STAR story for each.
  6. Practise out loud, ideally in a mock interview with someone who will give you honest feedback.
  7. Bring two questions for the interviewer about training, shifts and the team.

Practising realistic work tasks

Interviews reward prepared stories. Assessments reward judgement, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs free practice job simulations for job seekers. It isn't affiliated with Sam's Club or Walmart and doesn't use their questions or assessments.
