ALDI's hiring process has six steps, which it sets out on its hiring process page: apply online, wait for a response, a first interview by phone or in person (sometimes after a pre-recorded video interview), two to three interviews in total, an offer, then online pre-employment and onboarding requirements. ALDI says candidates are likely to hear back within two weeks of applying.
Everything below about the process comes from ALDI's US careers site, linked as we go. Where ALDI doesn't say something, we say so rather than guess. The interview questions further down are ones to prepare for, built from ALDI's values and its own job descriptions.

What is the ALDI hiring process?
You apply online, a recruiter contacts you if you're selected, you go through two to three interviews and, if chosen, you receive an offer and complete onboarding online. ALDI publishes three versions of the process: a general one, one for operations (stores and warehouses), and one for its National Services and Divisional Office teams.
The office process differs in a few ways. Updates come by email only, you meet hiring leaders for one or more interviews (with more if ALDI wants to understand your skills better), and the offer letter confirms your pay, start date, position and department. You then have 72 hours from confirming the offer to complete the online onboarding requirements.

How do you apply to ALDI?
Find a posting on careers.aldi.us and click "Apply Now". What ALDI's careers FAQ says about applying:
- You must be at least 18. ALDI says it has adopted a simple rule that employees must be 18 or older, even where state law allows younger workers.
- You'll get an email confirmation when your application is submitted. Watch your inbox, spam and junk folders, and your texts; ALDI may also call.
- You can check your status by logging in to your account. "In Progress" means your application is under review.
- You can't follow up with a hiring leader directly while your application is being reviewed.
- You can sign up for job alerts if the store you want isn't hiring.
Store jobs run from part-time Stocker and Cashier to full-time Store Associate, Lead Store Associate, Assistant Store Manager, Store Manager Trainee and Store Manager. ALDI says part-time Stockers must be available mornings and weekends and part-time Cashiers nights and weekends, with both averaging under 30 hours a week.
How long does ALDI take to get back to you?
ALDI says candidates are likely to receive a response within two weeks of applying, though this can vary with the volume of applications. After an interview, ALDI says you're likely to hear back within two weeks. It doesn't publish how long the whole process takes from application to start date.
If you've applied several times and heard nothing, ALDI's explanation is that hiring can be competitive depending on the applications it receives and the positions available.
Does ALDI have a video interview or assessment?
Some candidates are asked to complete a pre-recorded video interview before the first-round interview. ALDI doesn't publish what it asks or how long it takes. In a pre-recorded interview you answer questions on camera with no one on the other end, and our guide to one-way video interviews explains how they work and how to prepare.
ALDI also says warehouse candidates may be asked to take part in a lift test, so it suggests flexible, breathable clothing. ALDI's careers pages don't mention a written or online aptitude test.
What is the ALDI interview process like?
ALDI says you'll take part in two to three interviews, one-on-one or in a group. A recruiter schedules the first by phone and/or in person. ALDI doesn't say which roles have group interviews, so ask the recruiter what format to expect when they contact you.
ALDI's own advice, from its careers FAQ:
- Research and learn ALDI. Understand the company and the job requirements.
- Arrive early, 5 to 10 minutes before your interview. ALDI says being on time matters to it.
- Come prepared. Research common interview questions, brainstorm answers and bring questions for your interviewer.
- Bring copies of your resume, a pen and paper. A resume isn't required, but ALDI recommends bringing one.
- Follow up with a thank-you email or handwritten note.
On dress, ALDI suggests neat, clean, comfortable casual clothing for store and warehouse interviews, such as jeans or slacks, closed-toe shoes and a polo. For corporate and National Services interviews it suggests business professional attire.
If you can't make the interview times offered, ALDI says it will keep you in mind for future openings.
What happens after the ALDI interview?
If you're chosen, you receive a job offer. You then complete online pre-employment and onboarding requirements; for store and warehouse roles ALDI lists pre-employment screenings, paperwork and picking a start date. ALDI doesn't say on these pages what the screenings include.
If you need a reasonable accommodation at any stage because of a medical condition or disability, ALDI asks you to email Accessibility@aldi.us.
ALDI interview questions to prepare for
ALDI doesn't publish its interview questions. These are the questions to prepare for, based on ALDI's values and the duties and qualifications in its own store job descriptions. For "tell me about a time" questions, structure your answer with the STAR method (situation, task, action, result).
1. Why do you want to work at ALDI?
Make it specific. ALDI says its "priority focus is saving people money on the food and products they want most". Tie your answer to that, or to the career path from Store Associate upwards.
2. ALDI's values are consistency, simplicity and responsibility. Which fits you best?
ALDI says consistency "leads to reliability", simplicity "creates efficiency", and responsibility includes fairness, honesty, openness, service standards and friendliness. Pick one and back it with a short example from work, school or volunteering.
3. How do you make sure you're reliable?
The store associate posting asks for "reliable and prompt attendance". Talk about how you plan your week, get to work on time and let people know early if something changes. If you have a record of good attendance, say so.
4. A store associate works the register and stocks shelves. How would you switch between the two?
ALDI describes the full-time Store Associate job as part register, part stocking, and "a faster-paced job". The posting asks you to "organize, prioritize and complete assigned tasks" within set timeframes. Explain how you'd keep an eye on the queue while stocking and move quickly when you're needed at the front.
5. What would you do if the checkout line got long?
The posting says associates follow the line policy and open more check lanes when needed. Say you'd follow the store's policy, call for or open another register, and keep each transaction quick and accurate.
6. Tell me about a time you followed a procedure exactly.
The job involves following merchandising planograms, cash policies and product handling guidelines, and the posting asks for attention to detail. Choose an example where getting the steps right mattered, such as cash handling, stock counts or a safety process.
7. How would you handle an unhappy customer?
ALDI asks for "prompt and courteous customer service" and says associates escalate concerns to store management when needed. Show that you'd listen, stay polite, solve what you can and involve a manager when it's beyond you.
8. Are you comfortable with the physical side of the job?
The posting lists lifting and placing products up to 45 pounds, including overhead, working in freezer and cooler temperatures, and using equipment such as pallet jacks and a floor scrubber. Answer honestly about what you can do.
9. What is your availability?
Be specific. ALDI says part-time Stockers must be available mornings and weekends and part-time Cashiers nights and weekends, and the store associate posting lists meeting availability requirements as a qualification.
10. Tell me about a time you worked well in a team.
ALDI's store page describes working "together for our customers", and the posting asks you to work both independently and with others. If you're in a group interview, show this in the room too: listen, let others speak and build on their points.
11. For management roles: how would you run a shift or a store?
ALDI says its Store Manager Trainee programme runs for 32 weeks and covers maximising sales, controlling expenses, building a team and providing excellent customer service. Prepare a STAR story for each of those four areas.
12. What questions do you have for us?
ALDI tells candidates to bring questions to show interest. Good options: what training looks like in the first weeks, how schedules are set, and what separates the best associates in this store.

How to prepare for an ALDI interview
- Read the job description for your role, including the physical demands and availability.
- Learn ALDI's mission and three values, and have one example ready for each value.
- Prepare four or five STAR stories covering reliability, customer service, teamwork and following procedures.
- Practise answering on camera in case you're asked for a pre-recorded video interview.
- Do a mock interview with someone who will give you honest feedback, including a group-style round if you can.
- Plan to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early, dressed as ALDI suggests, with copies of your resume and a list of questions.
- Send a thank-you note after the interview, as ALDI recommends.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories. Store work rewards quick judgement on the register and the shop floor, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs free practice job simulations for job seekers. It isn't affiliated with ALDI and doesn't use ALDI's questions or interviews.
