Evercore Interview Questions and Recruiting Process

The short answer

Prepare for technical questions on accounting, valuation, M&A and capital structure (the topics on Evercore’s own interview preparation page) and behavioural questions built around its values and ideal-candidate criteria. Evercore doesn’t publish its interview stages. For MBA investment banking recruiting in general, Yale reports two first-round interviews followed by a super day of four to six back-to-back interviews.

  • Campus applications need a cover letter, and Evercore doesn’t accept late submissions.
  • You can make up to two applications a year; if you reach a final round, you choose one location or position.
  • Evercore says it tries to respond within a few weeks if you aren’t selected for interview.
  • Evercore doesn’t publish whether it uses online tests or video interviews.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with Evercore and doesn’t use Evercore’s assessments or questions.

Expect two kinds of preparation: technical questions on accounting, valuation, M&A and capital structure, and behavioural questions about why investment banking, why Evercore and how you work in a team. Evercore's own interview preparation page lists the technical topics to study.

Facts about the process come from Evercore's careers pages and, where Evercore is silent, a Yale School of Management account of MBA banking recruiting, labelled as reported. Evercore doesn't publish its interview stages, so we don't invent them.

How do you apply to Evercore?

You apply online through the open positions or campus programme links on Evercore's careers pages. Evercore's careers FAQ sets the rules:

  • Cover letters are required for campus applications.
  • No late applications. Evercore says the volume of applications means it can't accept them.
  • Up to two applications a year. If you're selected for a final round, you choose one location or position to interview for.
  • Withdrawing still counts towards your two applications.
  • International students are eligible to apply.
  • Recent graduates should apply for entry-level roles on the careers site; campus programmes are for current undergraduate and MBA students.

For London, the 2027 Graduate and Summer Intern applications ran from 31 August to 11 October 2026. Evercore hasn't published the next window, so check its Europe and Asia page.

Does Evercore have an online test or video interview?

Evercore doesn't say. Its careers pages, FAQ and interview preparation page don't mention online tests, numerical tests or one-way video interviews. If you're invited to one, the invitation will tell you the format. Our guide to one-way video interviews explains how they generally work.

What happens in Evercore's first-round interviews?

Evercore's recruiters contact you if you're selected for an interview. Evercore doesn't publish how many first rounds there are or how they're run.

Yale School of Management, in a February 2025 account by an MBA student who interned at Evercore, describes MBA banking recruiting in general: informal coffee chats in the autumn in which bankers ask "both behavioral and technical questions about things like accounting concepts and valuation methods", then two first-round interviews for most students. Treat that as a reported pattern for MBA recruiting across banks. Evercore hasn't published its own.

What is the Evercore superday?

Evercore's FAQ refers to a final round but doesn't describe it. Yale reports that MBA banking recruiting ends with a super day at the bank's office, with four to six back-to-back interviews. Prepare for both technical and behavioural questions, and to explain your interest in the specific group you applied to.

Common Evercore interview questions and how to answer them

Evercore doesn't publish a question list. The technical questions below come from the topics on its interview preparation page; the behavioural ones from its values and ideal-candidate criteria. Use the STAR method for the "tell me about a time" questions.

1. Walk me through your resume.

Evercore's prep page tells you to create a personal pitch and be ready to tell your story. Keep it to about two minutes, in order, and end on why you're interviewing for investment banking at Evercore now.

2. Why investment banking?

Evercore asks for a strong interest in investment banking and global markets. Give a specific reason from your own experience, such as a deal, a course or an internship, and show you know what an analyst or associate actually does day to day.

3. Why Evercore?

Link your answer to what makes the firm different. Evercore describes itself as an independent investment banking firm, its first value is independent and trusted advice to clients, and its equity capital markets advisory team in Europe says it doesn't underwrite. Add something personal: a banker you spoke to, the apprenticeship and mentoring model, or a recent transaction in the group you're applying to.

4. Which group are you interested in, and why?

Name the group and connect it to your background. If you're applying to restructuring, for example, show you understand what liability management and restructuring advice involves.

5. Walk me through the three financial statements.

Financial accounting is first on Evercore's technical topic list. Explain what each statement shows and how they link: net income flows to cash flow from operations and retained earnings, and the change in cash on the cash flow statement ties to the balance sheet.

6. How would a $10 increase in depreciation affect the three statements?

A classic linking question. State your tax rate assumption, then move through each statement in order: lower operating income and net income, the non-cash charge added back on the cash flow statement, and the balance sheet effects on assets, cash and equity. Practise until you can do it without notes.

7. Walk me through a DCF.

DCF valuation is on the list, including WACC, free cash flow and terminal value. Cover projecting unlevered free cash flow, choosing a discount rate, calculating terminal value, discounting back and moving from enterprise value to equity value.

8. What is the difference between enterprise value and equity value?

Capital structure is on the list. Explain that enterprise value is the value of the business to all capital providers, and how you bridge from equity value by adding debt and similar claims and subtracting cash.

9. How do you tell whether an acquisition is accretive or dilutive?

Merger models and accretion/dilution are on Evercore's investment banking topic list. Explain that you compare the buyer's earnings per share before and after the deal, and how the way the deal is financed changes the answer.

10. Tell me about a deal or market development you've been following.

Evercore's prep page tells candidates to stay up to date on financial news. Pick one deal or trend, explain the strategic logic, give your view and say what could go wrong. Choose something you can discuss for several minutes.

11. Tell me about a time you worked in a team under pressure.

This maps to Partnership and Collaboration. Choose a story where the whole team delivered, and show how you kept communication open and owned your part.

12. Tell me about a time you made a mistake.

This maps to Integrity and Excellence. Choose a real error, explain how you caught or owned it, what you fixed and the check you now use so it doesn't happen again.

13. How do you manage several projects with competing deadlines?

Evercore lists managing multiple projects at once among its ideal-candidate qualities. Describe how you prioritised, how you told people about trade-offs early, and the result.

14. Do you have any questions for us?

Ask about the group's recent work, how juniors are trained and mentored, or what distinguishes strong analysts or associates in their first year.

How to prepare for an Evercore interview

Evercore's interview preparation page gives five pieces of advice, and the rest follows from them:

  1. Come informed. Learn the industry, the programme you're applying to, and Evercore's history, core values and structure.
  2. Build your network. Stay in touch with the people you met during recruiting.
  3. Follow financial news. Evercore suggests the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Morning Brew and its own podcast, The Edge.
  4. Create your personal brand. Prepare your story and a short personal pitch, and work on your resume with your careers service.
  5. Use every resource, including mock interviews with peers and alumni who went through the process. A mock interview with honest feedback shows you where you hesitate.
  6. Work through the technical list on Evercore's prep page: accounting, modelling, M&A, financial statement analysis, working capital, capital structure, DCF and comparables. Evercore calls the list a jumping-off point and says it isn't comprehensive.
  7. Prepare five or six STAR stories on teamwork, mistakes, pressure, leadership and handling several tasks at once.
