Deutsche Bank Online Assessment and Hiring Process 2026

The short answer

Deutsche Bank’s online assessment for students and graduates is a situational judgement test, a behavioural questionnaire and an ability test, after an eligibility screen. You get 96 hours to complete each set of tests, and only the ability test is timed. Then come a video interview, an assessment centre or superday, and an offer.

  • Deutsche Bank says it takes about six weeks from applying to being asked to interview.
  • The pre-recorded video interview gives you two minutes to prepare and two to record each answer, with one attempt.
  • Apply to one role in one country. If you’re unsuccessful, you generally can’t be considered for another role that hiring year.
  • Experienced hires usually have at least one interview with the business and one with HR; other assessments are optional.

Deutsche Bank's online assessment for students and graduates has three parts: a situational judgement test, a behavioural questionnaire and an ability test. Deutsche Bank says the exact tests vary by role and region; that three-part list comes from its FAQ. The assessment comes after an eligibility screen, and you have 96 hours to complete each set of tests. The full graduate process runs from application through online assessments, a video interview and an assessment centre to an offer.

Everything below comes from Deutsche Bank's careers site, linked as we go. Where the bank doesn't say something, we say so.

What is the Deutsche Bank online assessment?

It's a set of online tests that most early-career roles include, and Deutsche Bank says the type varies by role and region. The bank's application FAQ says the assessment stage involves a situational judgement test, a behavioural questionnaire and an ability test, followed by a pre-recorded video interview.

PartWhat it isTimed?
Eligibility screenChecks you meet the requirements before the tests unlockNot stated
Situational judgement testWorkplace scenarios where you choose how you'd respondNo
Behavioural questionnaireQuestions about how you prefer to workNo
Ability testDeutsche Bank calls it an ability test; it doesn't publish what it coversYes, the only timed part

What Deutsche Bank says about taking them:

  • 96 hours per set of tests. Finish each set within the window you're given.
  • Practise first. The bank advises completing the practice tests beforehand to get familiar with the format.
  • Feedback reports. You get a report with development tips, whether or not you move on.
  • Connection drops. You can return at the same point, but leaving repeatedly may block the ability test.
  • Extra time. If you need it for the ability test, contact the recruitment team with a recommendation from an educational psychologist or medical professional.

Deutsche Bank doesn't name its test provider or publish question counts, timings or pass marks. Treat numbers you read elsewhere as unconfirmed.

How do you apply to Deutsche Bank?

Search for a programme on the careers site and submit a short application form with your CV. Check the eligibility criteria first; in some countries there is a minimum academic level.

Two rules matter more than most:

  • Apply to one role in one country. Recruiters may pass your application to another area depending on your progress and business needs.
  • If you're unsuccessful, you generally can't be considered for another role in the same hiring year.

You can't change an application once it's submitted. Deutsche Bank also notes it may not reject candidates until all positions on a programme are filled, so silence doesn't always mean no.

What is the Deutsche Bank video interview?

It's your chance to explain your motivation and skills. For some UK, German and APAC roles it's pre-recorded: you get two minutes to prepare and two minutes to record each answer, with one attempt. In other regions it may be a live virtual meeting with the hiring division.

Deutsche Bank says to explain why you suit the bank and why the division suits you, and to be authentic. It strongly advises against using AI tools. Our guide to one-way video interviews covers how to practise the recorded format.

What happens at the Deutsche Bank assessment centre or superday?

Most candidates attend an in-person assessment day. Deutsche Bank says you can typically expect competency assessments, case studies and a technical interview, and that the details come in your invitation email. In India, interviews take place on campus.

What happens after the Deutsche Bank interviews?

Deutsche Bank calls with the outcome within a week and gives feedback. If you get an offer, you have two weeks to decide. People who accept are invited to the Welcome Hub before their programme starts, and start dates vary by region.

What is the Deutsche Bank interview process for experienced hires?

Experienced professionals apply with a CV in PDF, in German or English, and can track progress in Candidate Home. The professionals' page says to expect several rounds, usually at least one interview with the business department and one with HR. Other interviews and assessments are optional. If the decision is positive, you get a contract offer and then a digital employment contract.

Deutsche Bank doesn't publish a timeline for experienced hires.

Deutsche Bank interview questions

Deutsche Bank's FAQ says to be ready to explain "why you're right for Deutsche Bank and why Deutsche Bank is right for you". Its recruiters recommend the STAR method for competency questions. The first two questions below come from that guidance; the rest are common competency questions, mapped to the four principles the bank publishes on its culture page: act responsibly to inspire trust, think commercially for sustainable outcomes, take initiative to create solutions and work collaboratively for the greatest impact.

  1. Why Deutsche Bank? Name something specific about the bank and the programme. Its recruiters ask candidates to show genuine interest and what excites them about the role.
  2. Why this division? The video interview asks why the division suits you. Show you know what it does and where your skills fit.
  3. How does your background apply to banking? A Deutsche Bank recruiter's tip is to articulate exactly this. Use a course, society or job example.
  4. Tell me about a time you acted with integrity under pressure. Maps to "act responsibly to inspire trust". Show the risk you saw and what you did.
  5. Describe a decision where you weighed cost against benefit. Maps to "think commercially for sustainable outcomes". Give the numbers you used.
  6. Tell me about a time you took the initiative to fix something. Maps to "take initiative to create solutions". Say what you noticed that others didn't.
  7. Tell me about a team project and your part in it. Maps to "work collaboratively for the greatest impact". Be clear about what you did.
  8. Tell me about a setback and what you learned. Keep it honest and show what you changed.
  9. What's a market or economic story you've followed recently? Prepare one if you're applying to a markets or corporate banking role, and explain why it matters to the bank's clients.
  10. Talk me through a case or problem. Superdays include case studies. Structure your answer, state your assumptions and give a recommendation.
  11. (Technology roles) Explain a technical project in depth. The superday includes a technical interview. Be ready to go into design choices and trade-offs.
  12. What questions do you have for us? Deutsche Bank's professionals FAQ suggests asking what the next step is and when to expect a response.

Practise with the STAR method and our list of behavioural interview questions.

How to prepare for the Deutsche Bank online assessment and interviews

  1. Check the deadline and eligibility for your programme and region. Most open in late summer or early autumn.
  2. Pick one role in one country and tailor your CV to its job description, as Deutsche Bank's recruiters advise.
  3. Do the practice tests before the real online assessment, and take the ability test somewhere quiet with a stable connection.
  4. Answer the SJT and questionnaire honestly. They aren't timed, so read every option.
  5. Rehearse two-minute answers to "why Deutsche Bank?" and "why this division?" for the recorded video interview.
  6. Prepare five STAR stories from university, societies and part-time work.
  7. Practise a case study and a technical interview for the superday, ideally in a mock interview.

Practising realistic work tasks

Situational judgement tests and superday case studies both reward judgement on realistic work problems, and that improves with practice.
