Zara Interview Questions and Hiring Process (2026)

The short answer

Zara doesn’t publish its interview questions. For US store jobs, its parent company Inditex describes four steps: apply with your preferred position, experience, availability and location; answer a VideoAsk link by email; interview if your profile matches a vacancy; then an offer. Prepare around Inditex’s values and the cashier, sales and stock duties in Zara’s job postings.

  • Zara’s store postings ask for people “passionate for fashion and trends, friendly and empathetic”.
  • Applications go through Inditex’s careers site, inditexpeople.com, which covers all its brands.
  • Inditex lists six values: teamwork, curiosity, diversity, sustainability, creativity and humbleness.
  • Zara doesn’t publish a timeline, an assessment or how many interviews to expect.

Zara doesn't publish its interview questions. Its hiring runs through Inditex, Zara's parent company, and a 2026 Zara US store posting on Inditex's careers site describes four steps: apply, answer a VideoAsk link sent by email, interview, and receive an offer.

Everything below about the process comes from Inditex's and Zara's own pages, linked as we go. Where they don't say something, we say so rather than guess. The interview questions further down are ones to prepare for, built from Inditex's values and the duties in Zara's own job postings.

What is the Zara hiring process?

You apply online, complete a VideoAsk step if Zara finds a suitable opportunity for you, interview if your profile matches a vacancy, and receive an offer if it's a match. Zara doesn't publish how long this takes or how many interviews there are.

How do you apply to Zara?

Zara's jobs are listed on inditexpeople.com, Inditex's careers site for all its brands. When you apply, the posting asks you to state:

  • the position you want;
  • your relevant experience;
  • your availability;
  • your preferred working location.

Be precise about availability. It's one of four things the posting asks for, and in retail it decides which shifts you can be offered.

Inditex says most of its people work in stores, and its teams page describes four store roles: sales assistant, visual merchandiser, store manager and in-store operations (the stockroom team).

What is the Zara VideoAsk step?

Once Zara finds a suitable opportunity for you, it emails you a link to "our VideoAsk platform" so you can share more about yourself. Zara doesn't say what it asks there or how long you have to reply.

If the link asks you to record answers on camera, prepare as you would for any pre-recorded interview: find a quiet, well-lit spot, keep answers short and look at the camera. Our guide to one-way video interviews explains how they work.

Does Zara have an assessment or test?

Zara's careers pages don't mention an online assessment, aptitude test or personality test for store jobs. The documented steps are the application, the VideoAsk step and the interview.

What is the Zara interview like?

If your profile matches a current vacancy, the team contacts you to arrange an interview. Zara doesn't publish its length, format or questions. The posting's only advice: "Just bring your brightest smile and be yourself."

You can still prepare. The posting describes what associates do, split into three areas:

  • Cashier: greeting customers, directing them to self-checkout or a staffed register, keeping checkout lines moving and handling cash.
  • Sales: knowing the newest products, the store layout and in-store devices and apps; serving customers at the fitting rooms and size collection points; keeping things tidy; helping control shrinkage; helping meet sales goals.
  • Stock: organising the stockroom, managing inventory and product flow, replenishing the shop floor and handling omnichannel orders.

All associates follow health and safety rules and communicate openly with colleagues and managers. Expect questions that test whether you can do this work and whether you fit the team.

Zara interview questions to prepare for

These are the questions to prepare for, based on Inditex's values and the duties in Zara's own store posting. For "tell me about a time" questions, structure your answer with the STAR method (situation, task, action, result).

1. Why do you want to work at Zara?

Make it specific. Zara says it "places the customer at the centre of every decision", and the posting asks for people "passionate for fashion and trends". Mention something you've noticed about Zara's collections or stores, and link it to serving customers.

2. Which current trend do you like, and how would you style it?

Inditex says its sales assistants use "their knowledge of trends and their own personal style" to help customers. Pick a trend you can see in Zara's current collection and describe how you'd put a look together for a customer.

3. How would you help a customer at the fitting rooms who can't find their size?

Fitting rooms and size collection points are named in the posting. Show that you'd check stock quickly, suggest an alternative if the size isn't available, and keep the customer informed while they wait.

4. The checkout line is getting long. What do you do?

The posting asks cashiers to keep lines moving and to direct customers to self-checkout or a staffed register. Say you'd guide customers to free tills, call for help if your store's procedure allows it, and keep each transaction quick and accurate.

5. Tell me about a time you worked well in a team.

Teamwork is the first of Inditex's six values: "We grow together." Choose an example where you helped a colleague or the team solved a problem together, especially at a busy time.

6. How would you keep the shop floor stocked during a busy day?

Stock associates replenish the shop floor and manage product flow, and the stockroom team handles receiving, storage and distribution. Explain how you'd prioritise the gaps customers notice first while keeping the stockroom organised.

7. What would you do if you thought someone was shoplifting?

The posting says sales associates help control shrinkage. Say you'd follow the store's procedure and tell a manager or security straight away. Don't describe confronting someone yourself.

8. Tell me about a time you found a better way of doing something.

Curiosity is an Inditex value: "the constant search for different ways of doing things". Give an example of a small change you made at work, school or volunteering, and what it improved.

9. Tell me about some feedback you received and what you did with it.

Inditex's value of humbleness credits "the people who have told us where we could improve". Choose real feedback, say what you changed and how it turned out.

10. How would you handle an unhappy customer?

The posting asks for associates who are "friendly and empathetic to offer good customer service". Show that you'd listen, apologise where it's right to, solve what you can and involve a manager when it's beyond you.

11. What is your availability?

Be specific and honest. Availability is one of the four things the application asks for, and your answer should match what you put there.

12. Where would you like to be in a few years?

Inditex says "Talent moves in every direction" and offers on-the-job training, e-learning, vocational training and language classes. Mention a store role you'd like to grow into, such as visual merchandiser or store manager, and what you'd learn first.

13. What questions do you have for us?

Good options: what training looks like in the first weeks, how shifts are scheduled, and what separates the best associates in this store.

How to prepare for a Zara interview

  1. Read the posting for your role and store, including the cashier, sales and stock duties.
  2. Visit a Zara store before the interview, so you can talk about the layout, the current collection and how customers shop.
  3. Learn Inditex's six values and have an example ready for teamwork, curiosity and humbleness.
  4. Prepare four or five STAR stories covering customer service, teamwork, working under pressure and learning something new.
  5. Practise answering on camera in case the VideoAsk step asks for recorded answers.
  6. Do a mock interview with someone who will give you honest feedback.
  7. Know your availability and make sure it matches your application.

Practising realistic work tasks

Interviews reward prepared stories. Store work rewards quick judgement on the till, the shop floor and in the stockroom, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks.
