Panda Express interview questions focus on how you treat guests, how you work in a fast kitchen and whether you share Panda's values. Panda doesn't publish a question list, so the questions below are built from what it says on its careers site and in its job postings, and each comes with how to answer it for Panda specifically.
Panda Express is run by Panda Restaurant Group, and its jobs are listed on pandacareers.com. Panda doesn't publish its interview format, how many rounds there are or how long hiring takes. Where it doesn't say something, we say so.

What is the Panda Express hiring process?
You find a role on Panda's careers site, apply online, interview and, if you're selected, get an offer and paid training. Panda doesn't set out the steps in between, so the table above shows only what its own pages confirm.
Panda's restaurant jobs fall into three groups on its careers site:
- Service team and kitchen team: Panda's postings for the two list the same duties: greeting guests, serving food, handling payments, keeping the store clean and following operations and safety standards. Both "may work at different positions", including front counter, drive-through or kitchen.
- Restaurant management: assistant managers, general managers and the roles above them.
Corporate roles at its Support Center, from sales to marketing to tech support, are listed on the same site.

How do you apply to Panda Express?
Pick a posting on pandacareers.com and select "Apply Now". The application opens on olivia.paradox.ai, the platform Panda uses for applications. Panda doesn't say on its careers site what the application asks or whether it includes questionnaires.
What Panda's postings ask for:
- Service and kitchen team: "Some high school", and friendly, helpful team members. Operations experience is "a plus", not a requirement. A food handler certification may be needed depending on local rules, at your own expense.
- Assistant managers: a high school diploma, ServSafe certification, a flexible schedule that "generally includes opening and closing shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays", and willingness to work at a store within 50 miles of home.
Read the ADA statement on the posting before you apply. It says counter areas are hot, staff stand for long periods, and you must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, "work quickly without losing accuracy" and "manage conflicts/difficult situations". Those lines tell you what the interview will probe.
What is the Panda Express interview process like?
Panda doesn't publish it. Its careers site and postings don't describe the interview format, how long it lasts, how many rounds there are or who you'll meet. Ask whoever schedules your interview who you'll be meeting and how long to allow.
What the postings make clear is what Panda is hiring for:
- For team members: providing "exceptional dining experience to Guests", keeping the store clean, following operations standards and safety procedures, working efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen and working with the team "to meet daily goals in a fun, positive environment".
- For assistant managers: helping run a single store, including "hiring, managing and directing of associates to achieve financial goals" and delivering exceptional guest experiences. Panda's restaurant careers page adds training new associates.
Prepare stories for each of those.
Does Panda Express have an assessment?
Panda doesn't publish one. Its careers site and postings don't mention a pre-hire test or questionnaire for restaurant roles. If your application includes one, treat it as you would any short workplace questionnaire: do it somewhere quiet and answer as you actually work.
Panda Express interview questions and how to answer them
Panda doesn't publish a question list. These are questions to prepare for, chosen to match what it says it looks for. Panda's Life at Panda page gives its mission as "to deliver exceptional Asian dining experiences by building an organization where people are inspired to better their lives", and lists five values:
- Proactive: "We identify growth opportunities to create the future we want."
- Respect/Win-Win: treating each other with respect and seeking win-win relationships with guests, partners and communities.
- Great Operations: a commitment to great operations, which Panda calls "a competitive advantage".
- Growth: "For Panda to grow, we must each learn and grow."
- Giving: giving time and resources to support each other and communities.
Use the STAR structure (situation, task, action, result) for the "tell me about a time" questions. Our STAR method guide walks through it.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it under a minute: who you are, any work or team experience, and why you're applying now. If you have no work experience, say so plainly. Panda's postings say "If you don't have experience, we'll train you!"
2. Why do you want to work at Panda Express?
Be specific. Panda talks about "Inspiring Better Lives", promoting from within and personal growth through its University of Panda. Pick the one that matters to you and say why. Panda also describes itself as a family-run business, if that appeals to you.
3. How would you greet and serve a guest at the counter?
This is the core of the service team job: greeting guests, serving food and handling payments. Walk through it: a friendly greeting, helping someone who can't decide, getting the order right and thanking them. Mention how you'd keep the line moving.
4. Tell me about a time you had to work fast without making mistakes.
Panda's postings ask for people who can "work quickly without losing accuracy", and great operations is one of its values. Pick a busy moment, explain how you stayed accurate and say what the result was.
5. How would you handle a guest who is upset about their order?
Panda's postings ask for "the ability to manage conflicts/difficult situations", and its respect/win-win value is about outcomes that work for both sides. Show that you'd listen, apologise, fix what you can quickly and involve a manager when needed.
6. Tell me about a time you spotted a problem and fixed it before anyone asked.
This is Panda's proactive value. Good examples: restocking before something ran out, cleaning up a hazard, or noticing a teammate falling behind and helping.
7. How do you keep your work area clean and safe?
Team members maintain "the cleanliness and appearance of the store" and follow "Operations Standards and Safety Procedure to serve fresh and quality food". Describe your habits: cleaning as you go, following food safety rules and not cutting corners when busy.
8. Tell me about a time you worked with a team to hit a goal.
Panda's postings talk about working with team members "to meet daily goals". Choose an example from work, school or sport where the team had a clear target, and say what you did to help reach it.
9. Tell me about something new you learned recently.
Panda's growth value says "we are humble and open to new ideas". Pick something you taught yourself or took on at work, and say how you went about it. Panda's careers site puts weight on personal growth, with classes through the University of Panda.
10. Tell me about a time you helped someone without being asked.
This is Panda's giving value, which covers supporting each other and the community. Volunteering, helping a classmate or covering for a coworker all work.
11. What is your availability?
Postings for team members mention flexible schedules, and assistant manager postings ask for openings, closings, evenings, weekends and holidays. Give an honest answer and make sure it matches your application.
12. Where do you see yourself in a few years?
Panda says "our culture is one of promoting from within" and publishes a career path from service and kitchen team to assistant manager, general manager, training leader and multi-unit manager. If you want to grow, say which step you'd aim for. If you don't, an honest answer about learning and reliability is fine.
13. For assistant managers: how would you train a new associate?
Training new associates is part of the assistant manager role. Describe how you'd show the task, let them try, give feedback and check back later. An example from a past job is stronger than a description.
14. For managers: tell me about a time you improved results in your area.
Assistant managers help "achieve financial goals" and deliver exceptional guest experiences. Use a real number if you have one: faster service, less waste, better scores.

What happens after the Panda Express interview?
Panda doesn't publish what happens after the interview or how long a decision takes. What its postings do say:
- Work eligibility: Panda Restaurant Group participates in E-Verify, the US government system that confirms work eligibility.
- Training: team members get "hands-on paid training". Assistant managers get "3 or more weeks of store leadership training".
- Accommodations: if you need one for the application or interview, Panda asks you to email TASupport@PandaRG.com.
How to prepare for a Panda Express interview

- Learn Panda's five values and the mission. Proactive, respect/win-win, great operations, growth and giving give you a ready checklist for your stories.
- Prepare four or five STAR stories covering serving someone well, working fast and accurately, a difficult person, helping a teammate and learning something new.
- Know your availability and be ready to explain it.
- Visit a Panda Express and watch how the counter and kitchen work together. It gives you something specific to say.
- Prepare two or three questions about training, shifts and how people move up.
- Practise out loud with someone who will be honest. Our mock interview guide shows how to set one up.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories, and the job rewards staying accurate and calm when it's busy. Both improve with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn't affiliated with Panda Express and doesn't use Panda's questions or tests.
