Lowe's hires in a few steps: you apply online, you interview if you're selected, and you get an offer and complete onboarding. Lowe's says most store roles take around two weeks from application to offer, and corporate roles may take slightly longer because of additional interview steps. It doesn't publish its interview questions or interview format.
Everything below about Lowe's process comes from Lowe's own careers and corporate pages, linked as we go. Where Lowe's doesn't say something, we say so rather than guess. The interview questions further down are ones to prepare for, built from Lowe's own job descriptions and the behaviours it says it values.

How do you apply to Lowe's?
You apply on talent.lowes.com. Lowe's Careers FAQ explains how it works:
- Store roles usually go through Luci, Lowe's virtual recruiting assistant. You can stop and pick up where you left off, as long as you use the same device.
- Most corporate roles go through Workday, where you can save your answers and finish later by logging back in.
- You'll be asked for the last four digits of your Social Security number and the month and day of your birth. Lowe's asks for the full number only after you accept an offer.
- Finish promptly. If a job stops being posted before you submit, you can't complete the application.
- You can't edit an application after you submit it, so check it first.
- For most hourly store jobs you must be at least 18, though Lowe's says this varies by location.
If a store told you to apply for a job you can't find, Lowe's says to contact the location and ask for the job ID. You can set up job alerts or join the Lowe's Talent Community to hear about new postings. For hiring events, Lowe's says to check with your local store.
If you need an accommodation to apply or interview, Lowe's asks you to speak to the leadership or hiring manager at the location, and then to contact its HR Service Center if you still need help.
Does Lowe's have an assessment?
Lowe's careers FAQ doesn't mention an assessment or pre-employment test, and the store job descriptions we checked don't either. We couldn't confirm one from reputable reporting, so treat claims about a Lowe's test, its questions or a pass mark as unconfirmed. If you're asked to complete one, ask the recruiter what it covers and how long to allow.
What is the Lowe's interview process?
If you're selected, you'll be invited to an interview. Lowe's doesn't publish the format, length or number of rounds, and it isn't something we could confirm from reputable reporting. What Lowe's does say:
- You'll get schedule details at the interview stage. Lowe's doesn't share schedules before you apply, so the interview is when you learn the shifts.
- You'll get a pay estimate during the interview, based on your experience and education.
- Corporate roles have additional interview steps, which is why they can take longer than store roles.
- Luci keeps you updated during and after the interview process if you applied through it.
Lowe's job pages warn that its recruiters only communicate through official @lowes.com email addresses. Be cautious of messages from personal emails, social platforms or messaging apps.
How long is the Lowe's hiring process?
Lowe's says the timeline depends on the role and the number of applicants. Most store roles take around two weeks from application to offer. Corporate roles may take slightly longer because of additional interview steps.
What happens after the Lowe's interview?
- Updates: If you applied through Luci, it sends updates after the interview. For Workday applications, log back into your candidate account.
- If you're not selected: Lowe's doesn't give interview-specific feedback. It suggests checking Lowe's Careers for other roles and joining the Talent Community.
- If you're hired: you'll get an email from lowes@myworkday.com with a link to Workday, where you complete onboarding tasks including the I-9.
- For orientation, Lowe's says to bring identification such as a driver's licence, passport and Social Security card, plus anything you need for the W-4 tax form and direct deposit details.
Lowe's provides a vest and name tag. The dress code otherwise varies by position and location, so ask your manager.
Lowe's interview questions to prepare for
Lowe's doesn't publish its interview questions. These are the questions to prepare for, based on the duties in Lowe's own store job descriptions, its Code of Conduct and the behaviours it says it values. For "tell me about a time" questions, structure your answer with the STAR method (situation, task, action, result).
1. Why do you want to work at Lowe's?
Lowe's mission is "solving problems and fulfilling dreams for the home". Link your answer to it: maybe you like helping people with projects, you know your way around tools or a garden, or you want a job where you learn a trade.
2. How would you help a customer who doesn't know what they need?
Lowe's sales specialist listing describes SMART customer service: seeking out customers, understanding their needs, answering questions and explaining the advantages of Lowe's products and services. Show that you'd ask questions about the project first, then recommend products, and bring in a colleague when you don't know the answer.
3. Tell me about a time you helped a customer who was upset.
Use a STAR story. The cashier listing says the aim is that every customer "exits Lowe's on a high note". Show that you listened, stayed calm, fixed what you could and brought in a supervisor when you needed to.
4. What is your availability?
Lowe's says store and supply chain roles generally need evening and/or weekend availability, and some listings name the shift in the title. Answer honestly and only offer shifts you can work.
5. How do you stay fast and accurate at a register?
The cashier listing asks for a fast, friendly checkout, accurate scanning and bagging, handling payments and exchanges, and helping customers at self-checkout. Explain the habits that keep you accurate under pressure, such as double-checking change or confirming item counts.
6. Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team when it was busy.
Lowe's careers site describes its stores as places where you "work together, win together", and its listings expect you to help other departments when needed. Pick an example where you covered a task outside your role or helped a colleague during a rush.
7. What would you do if you saw a safety hazard in the store?
The cashier listing asks associates to help keep a clean, safe workstation, and Lowe's listings set lifting guidelines and require trained use of powered equipment. Say you'd make the area safe straight away, report it and not leave it for someone else.
8. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when nobody was watching.
Lowe's Code of Conduct, the Red Vest Way, is "Act like an owner. Do the right thing. Speak Up." Choose an honest, low-drama example: owning up to a mistake, returning extra change or following a rule when a shortcut was easier.
9. When did you speak up about a problem at work or school?
Lowe's says "showing courage is one of our Core Behaviors", and its Code of Conduct asks associates to speak up when something doesn't seem right. Give an example where you raised a concern politely and it led to a fix.
10. Tell me about something you learned quickly.
"Continue Learning" is one of Lowe's core behaviours, and its sales specialists are expected to become product experts. Describe how you got up to speed on a new product, system or skill, and how you checked you'd understood it.
11. What do you know about our products or departments?
Sales specialists work in departments such as appliances, flooring, live nursery, millwork, tool rental and Pro. Walk the store before your interview and be ready to name the department you'd like and why.

How to prepare for a Lowe's interview
- Read the job description for the role you applied for. Lowe's listings set out key responsibilities and minimum and preferred qualifications.
- Learn the mission and the Red Vest Way. Both are short and give you material for "Why Lowe's?".
- Prepare four or five STAR stories covering customer service, teamwork, safety, honesty and learning quickly.
- Be clear about your availability, including evenings and weekends.
- Visit the store and look at the department you'd work in.
- Practise out loud, ideally in a mock interview with someone who will give you honest feedback.
- Bring two questions about training, scheduling and the team.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories, and customer service skills improve with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs free practice job simulations for job seekers. It isn't affiliated with Lowe's and doesn't use Lowe's questions or tests.
