Genpact Interview Questions and Hiring Process

The short answer

Prepare for Genpact interview questions on curiosity, problem-solving, learning from failure and integrity, which match the values Genpact publishes; it hasn’t published its own question list. Its hiring process runs from an online application to recruiter screening, possibly an online assessment, phone, video or self-paced interviews, background checks and an offer letter.

  • Genpact says it never asks applicants to pay to be part of its hiring process.
  • Genpact says it doesn’t recruit through text messages, WhatsApp or other unofficial platforms.
  • Online tests may be proctored, and you get the details of each assessment in an invitation email.
  • Genpact doesn’t publish its number of interview rounds, test formats or a timeline.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with Genpact and doesn’t use Genpact’s assessments or questions.

Genpact doesn't publish a fixed list of interview rounds. Its careers pages and its privacy notice for employment candidates describe the pieces: an online application, recruiter screening, online assessments, phone, video or self-paced interviews, background and reference checks, and an offer letter.

Everything below comes from Genpact's own pages, linked as we go. Where Genpact doesn't say something, we say so. The interview questions are ones to prepare for, built on what Genpact says it values; Genpact hasn't published its own list.

What is the Genpact hiring process?

You apply online, recruiters screen your application, you may take an online assessment, and shortlisted candidates interview, go through background checks and receive an offer letter. Genpact's careers pages and candidate privacy notice describe these steps; they don't give a timeline.

Applying

  • Experienced roles: search and apply on Genpact's careers site, which links to its job listings. Genpact hires across data, technology, AI services and digital operations.
  • Freshers and students in India: Genpact runs NEXTGEN programmes for graduates (Campus Graduate, Analytics and Digital) and an internship programme. The Analytics programme includes Skydive, which Genpact calls "a six-week skill-building experience" to move from campus to work. Campus applications go through Genpact's campus portal.
  • Never pay. Genpact says it "never requires applicants to pay to be part of our hiring process."
  • Watch for fake recruiters. Genpact says it "does not recruit through text messaging, WhatsApp, or any unofficial platforms." On one of its careers pages, it says a recruiter will reach out by email to schedule a video interview if your profile matches.

How Genpact uses AI in screening

Genpact's candidate privacy notice (last updated April 2023) says it may use AI in certain stages of recruitment to help with the initial selection of candidates. It states that AI won't take automatic decisions on your application and that these tools are only an aid for recruiters. Write your CV for a human reader and match it clearly to the job description.

What is the Genpact interview process?

Genpact doesn't publish a set number of rounds; it depends on the role. Its privacy notice says interviews can be by phone, video or self-paced without a live recruiter, and that Genpact may record phone and video interviews, telling you before it does.

What that means for you:

  • Ask your recruiter which interviews you'll have and who you'll meet.
  • For a video interview, test your camera, microphone and connection beforehand.
  • For a self-paced interview, you record answers to set questions. Our guide to one-way video interviews explains how they usually work and how to prepare.
  • Expect behavioural questions about how you've handled real situations. Answer them with the STAR method.

For campus and fresher hiring, prep sites and candidate reviews describe aptitude, spoken-English and technical rounds. Genpact's pages we checked don't describe these, so treat round counts, timings and cut-offs you read elsewhere as unconfirmed, and follow the instructions in your invitation.

Does Genpact have an online assessment?

It can. Genpact's privacy notice describes online assessments and says candidates get the details of each assessment in an invitation email before they take it, and that online tests may be proctored.

RuleWhat Genpact says
DetailsSent in an invitation email before the assessment
ProctoringGenpact may collect snapshots or audio and video recordings to keep the test fair
Biometrics"No biometric data will be collected of you"
FlagsA recruiter reviews proctoring flags manually before reaching a decision

Genpact doesn't publish what its tests contain, how long they take or the pass mark. If your invitation says the test is proctored, our guide to what proctoring enabled means explains how to set up. If it's an aptitude or personality test, our guide to psychometric assessments covers the common types.

What happens after the Genpact interview?

If you're shortlisted, Genpact's privacy notice says it may:

  • run background checks on your education, employment and criminal record, and check social media only where the law permits;
  • contact the references you provide about your past performance;
  • ask for more information so it can send you an offer letter.

If you accept, Genpact may share some of your details with clients before you start, as part of background and contractual requirements. New joiners in India need their onboarding documents, including UAN activation, provident fund details and KYC.

Common Genpact interview questions and how to answer them

Genpact names its values as courage, curiosity, incisiveness, integrity and inclusion. Its who we are page says: "We question, we experiment, we learn, we grow, we succeed, and above all, we care." The answers below draw on both.

1. Tell me about yourself.

Give a two-minute summary: what you do now or studied, the skills that fit this role, and why you want it. End by linking to the job: data, technology, finance and accounting, customer care or whichever area you applied to.

2. Why Genpact?

Be specific. Mention the service line you're applying to and what draws you to it. Genpact's stated purpose is "the relentless pursuit of a world that works better for people"; link that to a kind of work you want to do, such as improving a process or using data to answer a business question.

3. Tell me about a time you questioned the usual way of doing something.

This tests curiosity and courage. Genpact says it wants a "challenger" mindset. Describe what you questioned, how you raised it respectfully and what changed.

4. Describe a time you failed and what you learned.

Genpact says its culture lets people "try new things, and not be afraid to fail", and that it wants "people who will get up, learn and move forward." Pick a real failure, own it, and spend most of your answer on what you learned and did next.

5. Tell me about a time you learned a new skill or tool quickly.

Genpact calls itself "curious to the core" and hires into AI and digital work. Use a recent example, such as a tool, a programming language or an AI product, and explain how you learned it and used it.

6. Give an example of a problem you solved by finding its root cause.

This is incisiveness: getting to the heart of a problem. Walk through how you separated the symptom from the cause, what data you used and the result.

7. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when it was difficult.

Integrity is one of Genpact's values. A small, true example works best: you raised an error, refused a shortcut or told a client something unwelcome.

8. How would you handle a frustrated customer or client?

Genpact runs customer care and other client operations. Show that you listen, acknowledge the problem, fix what you can and follow up. Give a real example if you have one.

9. Describe a process you improved.

Genpact's business services include finance and accounting, sourcing and procurement, and supply chain management. Explain the process, what you changed, and how you measured the result.

10. Explain a technical or data concept to someone who isn't technical.

Useful preparation for data, analytics and technology roles. Pick something from your CV, explain it in plain words with an example, and check the interviewer is following.

11. Tell me about working with people who were different from you.

Inclusion is one of Genpact's values, and it says "everything about you is welcome." Talk about a team with different backgrounds, locations or working styles, and how you made it work.

12. Are you comfortable with the shift timings and location in the job description?

Read the job description closely before the interview. Answer honestly, because a mismatch on shifts or location is better raised now than after an offer.

13. Do you have any questions for us?

Ask about the team's clients or processes, how new joiners are trained, or what good performance looks like in the first few months.

Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
