EPAM Interview Questions and Hiring Process

The short answer

EPAM’s online application, the flow EPAM Anywhere uses, usually runs in four steps: prescreening (your profile, expectations and short online tests where they apply), a 30-minute general interview that also checks your English, a technical interview with EPAM’s technology experts of about an hour and a half, and a hiring decision. Some applications go from prescreening straight to the technical interview. Prepare to go deep on your main technology, your frameworks and tools and how you solve problems.

  • EPAM says one online test usually takes 15 to 30 minutes.
  • The general interview runs on Microsoft Teams or Zoom and covers your experience, goals and English.
  • EPAM says the technical interview usually happens 3 days to a week after the general interview, with feedback within 2 business days.
  • EPAM doesn’t publish a fresher process or a full timeline to an offer.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with EPAM and doesn’t use EPAM’s tests or questions.

EPAM's online application usually shows two interview rounds after a prescreening: a 30-minute general interview, then a technical interview with its technology experts. Before either, you set out your expectations and take short online tests if your application asks for them.

The process below comes from the step guidance in the online application on EPAM's careers site, the same flow EPAM Anywhere uses. Your recruiter may describe a different process for some locations or roles. Where EPAM doesn't say something, we say so. The interview questions are ones to prepare for; EPAM doesn't publish its questions.

What is the EPAM hiring process?

You apply on EPAM's careers site, complete the prescreening, take a general interview and a technical interview, and then reach a hiring decision. EPAM's application shows these as four steps and tracks your progress through each one.

You can also use the careers site's "Find me a job" option: share your CV and pass EPAM's review to get a job suggested to you, even if you didn't find a listing that fits.

Prescreening

The prescreening collects your personal information, skills and experience. EPAM then asks you to give your preferred start date and financial expectations before any online tests. Decide your answer before you start.

After the tests, EPAM's talent acquisition team reviews your profile with your test results. If it's a match, EPAM contacts you by phone or email to invite you to a general interview. If it isn't, you get an email. EPAM says that if you hear nothing within a week, check your spam folder and then contact its support team.

What is the EPAM online assessment?

EPAM's application asks you to take online tests to show your core skills, where a test exists for your role. EPAM says one test usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, and it shares your results as soon as you finish. On some applications the tests are required; on others they're optional. For technical roles, the test can be a coding test in your top skill.

EPAM doesn't publish which platform it uses, how many questions a test has or what score you need. Treat question counts you read elsewhere as unconfirmed. To prepare:

  • Practise timed problems in your main language. Fifteen to 30 minutes leaves little room to look things up.
  • Take optional tests seriously. They're part of the profile EPAM reviews before the general interview.
  • Sit them somewhere quiet with a stable connection.

What is the EPAM interview process?

EPAM's application usually shows two interviews, a general interview and a technical interview. On some applications you go from prescreening straight to the technical interview. Both are online.

The general interview

EPAM says this round takes around 30 minutes on Microsoft Teams or Zoom. You pick a time slot, and EPAM sends an invitation and a reminder with the join link. In EPAM's words, it will "discuss your qualifications, past work experience, professional goals and check your English skills."

EPAM's job listings describe work for global clients on international projects, so expect the conversation in English. Prepare a clear two-minute summary of your experience and what you want next.

The technical interview

After you pass the general interview, EPAM's recruiting specialist contacts you in about 1 to 2 business days to schedule it. EPAM says it usually takes place 3 days to a week after the general interview.

It's a video session with EPAM's technology experts, who discuss your domain-specific knowledge, problem-solving skills and your experience with frameworks and tools. EPAM asks you to keep your webcam on, and the join link opens 15 minutes before the start. The application shows this step as about an hour and a half.

Prepare to explain how the frameworks you list work under the hood, the trade-offs of choices you made on past projects, and how you'd approach a problem you haven't seen before.

What happens after the EPAM interview?

EPAM says it gets in touch within 2 business days of your technical interview with feedback. You then reach the hiring decision step, where EPAM considers your profile and updates you on its decision and the next steps.

EPAM's application doesn't describe the offer stage, how long it takes or how you're placed on a project. Ask your recruiter at the hiring-decision step.

EPAM links a recruitment fraud disclaimer from its careers site. If an offer or interview invitation reaches you outside EPAM's careers site and recruiters, check it there before you reply.

Common EPAM interview questions and how to answer them

These are questions to prepare for in both rounds. EPAM's Code of Ethical Conduct lists five core values: Value the Individual, Act as a Team, Strive for Excellence, Focus on the Client and Act with Integrity. Several answers below draw on them.

1. Tell me about yourself.

Keep it to two minutes in clear English: your current role, the technology you're strongest in, one project with a measurable result, and why EPAM. The general interview checks your English, so practise this out loud.

2. What are your salary and start-date expectations?

EPAM asks for these in the prescreening. Give the same answer if a recruiter asks again, based on research for your market and level, and say how flexible you are.

3. Walk me through the architecture of a project you worked on.

EPAM says its technical interview covers your experience with frameworks and tools, so draw the main components, explain your part, and say why the team chose each framework or tool and what it cost. Interviewers ask follow-up questions on everything you mention, so only name tools you can discuss in depth.

4. How does a framework you use work internally?

EPAM's technical interview covers your experience with frameworks and tools. Pick the one on your CV you know best and be ready to explain its lifecycle, how it handles state or data, and where it performs badly.

5. How would you solve this problem? (a live technical problem)

Talk through your approach before you write anything, start with a simple version, then improve it. Say what you'd test. EPAM says the technical round looks at problem-solving, so your reasoning matters as much as the answer.

6. Tell me about a time you disagreed with a client or stakeholder.

Use the STAR method. Show that you understood what the client needed, explained the risk plainly and agreed a way forward. This maps to Focus on the Client.

7. Tell me about a time you helped a teammate.

Pick an example where you unblocked someone, reviewed their work or shared knowledge. EPAM's value Act as a Team is about exactly this.

8. Tell me about a mistake you made on a project.

Choose a real one, own it, explain the fix and what you changed afterwards. Honesty about mistakes fits Act with Integrity.

9. How do you keep your skills up to date?

Give specific examples: a course, a certification, a side project or a technology you adopted at work. Tie it to Strive for Excellence.

10. How do you work with a distributed team across time zones?

EPAM's listings describe international projects. Explain how you communicate, document decisions and hand over work so others can pick it up.

11. What kind of project do you want to work on next?

Be honest and specific: the domain, the technology and the role you want. It helps EPAM match you, and it shows you've thought about your career.

12. Do you have any questions for us?

Ask about the project and its stack, and ask how EPAM matches you to a project at the hiring-decision step. EPAM's application doesn't describe that, so the recruiter is the place to find out.

How to prepare for the EPAM interview

  1. Decide your expectations for salary and start date before you begin the application.
  2. Practise timed coding or skills problems in your main technology for the 15-to-30-minute tests.
  3. Practise speaking about your work in English, out loud, for the general interview.
  4. Go deep on the frameworks and tools on your CV. The technical interview is with EPAM's technology experts.
  5. Prepare four or five STAR stories on a client, a teammate, a mistake and learning something new. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on, and a mock interview helps you hear how you sound.
  6. Check your Teams or Zoom setup and webcam before each round.
  7. Read EPAM's core values so your examples connect to what it says it cares about.

Practising realistic work tasks

EPAM's online tests and technical interview reward people who can solve real problems under time pressure, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with EPAM and doesn't use EPAM's tests or questions.
