Dutch Bros interviews are conversational. Its careers site says the interview is a chance to "dive deeper into your skills, experiences, and passions" and for Dutch Bros to see whether you'd be "a culture add". The questions below are built around what Dutch Bros says it looks for, and each comes with how to answer it for Dutch Bros specifically.
Dutch Bros doesn't publish its interview questions or a hiring timeline. Everything about the process here comes from its own careers site, its job postings and its annual report, linked as we go. Where Dutch Bros doesn't say something, we say so.
The Dutch Bros hiring process at a glance
| Step | What happens | What Dutch Bros says about timing |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Apply | Apply on careers.dutchbros.com and say why you'd be a good fit. Broistas don't need a resume. | Not published |
| 2. Screen | A recruiter calls for a quick chat. Dutch Bros marks this step as for HQ roles. | Not published |
| 3. Interview | You meet the crew for a conversational interview. Most are in person; some are by video. | Not published |
| 4. Decision | If you're selected, you get an offer and onboarding. If not, Dutch Bros says it keeps you in the loop for future openings. | Not published |
Dutch Bros says the process "can sometimes vary depending on the type of role", and that it generally follows these steps.
What is the Dutch Bros hiring process?
You apply online, HQ applicants have a short recruiter screen, you interview with the crew, and you get a decision. Dutch Bros lays out those four steps on its interviewing page.
Dutch Bros' careers site groups jobs into three areas: shops (broistas, the people who make drinks and serve customers, and shop leadership), headquarters, and roasting, warehouse and logistics. Most people searching for this guide are applying to be a broista.
Dutch Bros says it makes hiring decisions based on "skills, attitude, and potential". Keep those three words in mind for every answer.

How do you apply to Dutch Bros?
You search for a role on careers.dutchbros.com and submit an application. Dutch Bros asks you to tell it "about your relevant skills and what excites you about Dutch Bros".
- No resume for broistas. Dutch Bros says: "No resume needed! Just bring your passion and a willingness to learn." It teaches the rest.
- Other roles: keep a resume handy. For most roles it recommends being ready to talk through your experience and skills.
- Food handler permit. Its broista postings say one is required where state or local rules demand it.
- Talent Community. You can sign up for alerts about openings, new shops near you and hiring events.
Dutch Bros' 2025 annual report says it has both company-operated and franchised shops. If you're applying to a franchised shop, ask how that shop runs its hiring.
Is there a phone screen at Dutch Bros?
Dutch Bros lists one for HQ roles. It says that if your application moves forward, a recruiter will contact you "for a quick chat" to tell you more about the role and learn about you, and marks this step as being for HQ roles. It doesn't say how shop applicants are contacted before the interview.
What is the Dutch Bros interview process like?
Conversational, and usually in person. Dutch Bros says "most of our interviews are in person because we're a people-first company" and to expect "a warm, welcoming vibe". It doesn't publish how long interviews last, how many rounds there are or exactly who you'll meet, beyond meeting "the crew".
- In person: Dutch Bros says to wear what feels comfortable "while putting your best foot forward".
- By video: find a quiet, well-lit spot and check your audio first.
- Hiring parties: Dutch Bros runs broista hiring parties where you "meet the team and interview right at your local shop". It describes them as a quick, easy way to get hired. Watch the Talent Community alerts for one near you.
Dutch Bros gives three pieces of interview advice on its own site:
- Show your impact. Talk about the specific role you played, the actions you took and the results you got. Use numbers where you can.
- Bring your skills, not just a resume. It wants people "ready to learn, grow, and bring positive energy".
- Stay curious and ask questions. Come with questions about the role and the crew, and ask for more detail if something isn't covered.
Does Dutch Bros have an assessment?
Not as a published step before hiring. Dutch Bros doesn't list a pre-hire test for broistas on its careers site. The tests come after you're hired, during training:
- Its broista postings mention "hands-on training and menu knowledge tests to make sure you meet Dutch Bros standards".
- Its 2025 annual report says new broistas go through "Manifesto" training on culture and history, then on-the-job positional training, and must pass a "flow check" test before working a shift on their own.
So for the interview itself, there's nothing to cram. The menu comes later.
Dutch Bros interview questions and how to answer them
Dutch Bros doesn't publish a question list. These are questions to prepare for, chosen to match what it says it looks for. Its careers site lists what it values as growth mindset, embrace the grind and compelling futures, and how it shows up as people first, inclusive environment and making an impact. Its annual report names its core values as speed, quality and service. Its broista postings describe the person it wants as a people person, adaptable and quick, team-oriented and committed to a growth mindset.
Use the STAR structure (situation, task, action, result) for the "tell me about a time" questions. Our STAR method guide walks through it.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it short and personal. Dutch Bros' interviews are conversational, so talk about who you are, what you enjoy and why you're applying, the way you would to a new coworker. End on what you want from the job.
2. Why do you want to work at Dutch Bros?
Dutch Bros says "we may sell coffee, but we're in the relationship business". A strong answer picks up on that: say what you've noticed about how broistas talk to customers, and why you want to be part of it. If you've been a customer, use a real visit.
3. How would you make a customer's day?
This is the "people person" question. Its postings say the job is about making genuine connections and making sure "every visit is memorable". Give a specific example of making someone's day in a past job, at school or volunteering, and say what you actually did.
4. Tell me about a time you had to work fast without losing quality.
Dutch Bros' annual report names its core values as speed, quality and service, side by side. Pick a busy moment where you kept up the pace and still got the details right. Say how you prioritised and what you refused to cut.
5. How do you handle a rush?
Its postings describe the job as "fast, high-energy, and physically demanding" and ask for someone who "can handle a rush and keep the positivity flowing". Describe how you stay calm and friendly when the queue is long, and give an example.
6. Tell me about a time you helped a teammate.
Dutch Bros wants crew members who are "ready to support your crew, no matter what's needed". Choose a story where you stepped in without being asked: covering a task, helping someone new or sharing the load on a busy shift.
7. Tell me about a time you learned something new quickly.
Growth mindset is first on Dutch Bros' list of values, and new broistas face menu knowledge tests and a flow check in training. Pick a moment where you learned fast and explain how you did it: notes, practice, asking questions.
8. Tell me about a time you got feedback and used it.
This tests the same growth mindset. Say what the feedback was, what you changed and what happened afterwards. Show you didn't take it personally.
9. How do you feel about early mornings and late nights?
Dutch Bros' "embrace the grind" value talks about "early mornings, late nights and everything in between", and its postings mention shifts of up to 10 hours and showing up on time for shifts and mandatory meetings. Give an honest answer about your availability and make sure it matches your application.
10. Tell me about a time you dealt with an unhappy customer.
Dutch Bros' annual report describes service as a "customer-first attitude" and using every interaction to connect. Show that you listened first, fixed what you could and kept the tone kind.
11. Tell me about something you're proud of achieving.
Dutch Bros tells candidates to show their impact: the role they played, the actions they took and the results. Use that structure exactly, and add a number if you have one.
12. Where do you see yourself in a year?
Dutch Bros' "compelling futures" value says it helps people advance "whether Dutch is your forever workplace or a stop on the way". Its annual report says its operators are recruited from within and that its LEAD programme sets out growth paths in the shops. Be honest. Both "I want to grow into a lead role" and "I'm studying and want a job I'll enjoy" fit.
13. How have you been involved in your community?
Making an impact is one of the ways Dutch Bros says it shows up, from national giveback days to local support. Volunteering, school clubs or helping neighbours all count. If you have nothing, say what kind of cause you'd want to support.

What happens after the Dutch Bros interview?
If you're selected, Dutch Bros sends an offer and guides you through onboarding. If you're not, it says it will keep you in the loop for future opportunities. It doesn't publish how long a decision takes.
Once hired, training starts. Dutch Bros' annual report describes "Manifesto" training on its culture, history and fundamentals, then on-the-job positional training. You have to pass a "flow check" test before working a shift on your own, and its postings mention menu knowledge tests too.
If you need an accommodation at any stage, Dutch Bros asks you to email hrhelp@dutchbros.com with "Accommodation Request" in the subject line.
How to prepare for a Dutch Bros interview
- Visit a Dutch Bros shop and watch how the broistas talk to customers. You'll have a real answer to "Why Dutch Bros?".
- Prepare four or five short stories covering making someone's day, a rush, helping a teammate, learning fast and an unhappy customer.
- Use Dutch Bros' own structure for each one: your role, your actions, the result.
- Link each story to a value. Speed, quality and service, plus people first and growth mindset, cover most questions.
- Know your availability, and be ready to talk about early and late shifts.
- Prepare two or three questions for the crew about training, shifts and what they enjoy about the job.
- Practise out loud with someone who will be honest. Our mock interview guide shows how to set one up.
- Dress comfortably and neatly. Dutch Bros says to wear what feels comfortable while putting your best foot forward.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories, and the job rewards staying friendly and accurate under pressure. Both improve with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn't affiliated with Dutch Bros and doesn't use Dutch Bros' questions or tests.
