Chili's interviews are likely to cover when you can work, how you look after Guests, how you work with a team and how you cope when the restaurant is busy. You find a role at chilisjobs.com and apply online. Chili's postings promise a "fast hiring process", but Chili's doesn't publish how long it takes.
Chili's is owned by Brinker International. This guide uses Chili's own careers site and job postings, linked as we go. Where Chili's doesn't say something, we say so rather than guess.

What is the Chili's hiring process?
You apply online for a role at a specific restaurant, interview if the restaurant wants to take your application forward, and start training if you're offered the job. Chili's describes its hiring as fast on its postings, but doesn't publish the steps in more detail, so the sections below say where each fact comes from.
Chili's groups its restaurant roles like this:
- Front of House: from hosts to servers. Chili's says front of house is "all about making people feel special."
- Heart of House: the kitchen, including line cooks, working "behind the scenes" on the food.
- Management: shift leaders, managers and general managers.
- Restaurant Support Center: head office roles, listed on brinkerjobs.com.

How do you apply to Chili's?
Go to chilisjobs.com and search by job title, keyword or location. Each posting is for a specific restaurant. Choose "Apply Now" to complete your application in the online candidate portal.
Read the posting carefully before you apply. The ones we read set out different requirements for each role:
| Role | What the posting asks for |
|---|---|
| Server | "Great attitude and approach to Guests and Team Members"; thinks and acts quickly in a fast-paced, high-volume environment; prior experience a plus; minimum age 18 for this position |
| Host | "Friendly, warm, and caring attitude"; able to stand for long periods and carry trays of food; "No experience necessary" |
| Line Cook | Friendly, warm and caring with Team Members; able to use slicers, mixers, grinders and food processors; prior experience preferred |
The server posting also asks for availability on some weekends, weekdays and holidays.
Does Chili's have an assessment?
Chili's doesn't publish one. If you're asked to complete a questionnaire or scenario-based questions as part of your application, answer as you actually work; our guide to situational judgement tests explains how scenario questions work in general.
What is the Chili's interview process like?
Chili's doesn't publish an interview format, its length or who you'll meet, and these may vary by restaurant. When you're invited, ask who you'll meet and how long to allow.
Expect the conversation to focus on what the postings ask for: your attitude with Guests and teammates, how quickly you think in a busy restaurant and your availability. Dress neatly, arrive on time and bring a copy of your resume.
How long does the Chili's hiring process take?
Chili's doesn't publish a timeline. Its postings describe a "fast hiring process" and accept applications on an ongoing basis until the role is filled. If you want an update, a short, polite call to the restaurant is reasonable.
What happens after you're hired at Chili's?
You start training for your role. Chili's says hourly Team Members get one-to-one mentoring and coaching, ongoing training, and skill development in hospitality, teamwork and salesmanship.
Chili's also publishes a career path from hourly roles into management:
| Level | What Chili's says it takes |
|---|---|
| Hourly Team Member | Passion, dedication, teamwork and spirit |
| Certified Shift Leader | Master two hourly roles first; includes a Department of Labor Restaurant Manager Apprenticeship and a certified restaurant manager credential from the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation |
| Manager | At least six months as a Certified Shift Leader; leadership development and mentoring programmes |
| General Manager | A reputation for excellence and the ability to develop others |
Team Members can also use Best You EDU, Chili's free online education programme for part-time and full-time Team Members, covering certificates, associate degrees and GED courses.
What does Chili's look for?
Chili's describes the "heart of a ChiliHead" in three values on its our story page:
- Love: supporting each other and putting others first.
- Belonging: everyone valued, respected and listened to.
- Enjoyment: "Proving that work can actually be fun."
It adds four cultural beliefs:
- Every Guest Counts: own the Guest experience so they come back.
- Food and Drink Perfection: quality food and drinks, on time, at their best.
- Be Accountable: meet the standards expected of you.
- Play Restaurant: make it fun for Guests and the team.
Those are the ideas to weave into your answers.
Chili's interview questions and how to answer them
Chili's doesn't publish its interview questions. The ones below follow from its postings and values, so expect questions on these themes. For "tell me about a time" questions, use the STAR method: situation, task, action, result.
1. Why do you want to work at Chili's?
Be specific. Talk about enjoying looking after people, the team atmosphere Chili's describes, or the training and promotion path. Linking your answer to Every Guest Counts or Enjoyment shows you've read about the company.
2. What is your availability?
Restaurants are busiest on evenings, weekends and holidays, and the server posting asks for availability on some weekends, weekdays and holidays. Be exact and honest about what you can work.
3. Tell me about your restaurant or customer service experience.
If you've worked in a restaurant, describe the pace and volume you handled. If you haven't, use any job where you looked after customers or worked under time pressure. The host posting says no experience is necessary.
4. What would you do if a Guest was unhappy with their food?
Every Guest Counts and Food and Drink Perfection both apply. Show that you'd apologise, listen, offer to put it right straight away and involve a manager when needed.
5. How would you handle several tables at once during a rush?
For servers. The posting asks for someone who "thinks and acts quickly in a fast-paced, high-volume environment". Explain how you'd prioritise, keep track of orders and ask teammates for help before anyone waits too long.
6. How would you suggest a dish or drink to a Guest?
Servers learn the menu so they can explain it, and Chili's training covers salesmanship. Describe asking what the Guest likes and recommending something specific, without pushing.
7. Tell me about a time you helped a teammate.
Love and Belonging are about supporting each other. Pick an example where you stepped in to help someone without being asked.
8. Tell me about a time you made a mistake at work.
Be Accountable means meeting the standards expected of you. Choose a real, modest mistake, say how you fixed it and what you do differently now.
9. A large party arrives and there's a long wait. What do you do?
For hosts, who manage the waitlist and pass Guest concerns to a manager. Stay friendly, give an honest wait time, keep the party updated and let a manager know if it runs long.
10. How do you keep food orders moving when the kitchen is busy?
For line cooks. The posting asks cooks to follow recipe procedures, keep the kitchen clean, communicate ticket times and keep orders flowing. Talk about staying organised, following food safety rules and calling out times to the team.
11. How do you make work fun without dropping standards?
Play Restaurant and Enjoyment are part of Chili's culture, and the company says it takes the job seriously but not itself. Give an example of keeping a shift upbeat while still getting the details right.
12. How would you coach a new Team Member?
For shift leader and manager roles. General managers are expected to develop others. Describe how you'd show them the standard, give quick feedback on the floor and recognise good work.
For more practice, our behavioural interview questions and situational interview questions give you a wider bank to rehearse.
How to prepare for a Chili's interview
- Choose the right role for your experience and availability: Front of House, Heart of House or management.
- Read the posting for that restaurant, including the minimum age and availability.
- Know the values and cultural beliefs, and have one story each for Guests, teamwork and accountability.
- Eat at a Chili's if you can, and notice how the team greets and looks after Guests.
- Prepare four or five STAR stories about Guests, busy shifts, teamwork and mistakes you fixed, and rehearse them out loud, ideally in a mock interview.
- Bring a resume and two or three questions about training, scheduling and the path to Certified Shift Leader.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories. The job itself rewards judgement with Guests under pressure, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for roles such as customer service, with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn't affiliated with Chili's or Brinker International and doesn't use their questions.
