Chick-fil-A doesn't publish interview questions, but its core values centre on service and teamwork, so prepare examples that show both. The catch is that there's no single Chick-fil-A interview. Chick-fil-A says most of its restaurants are locally owned and operated by independent franchised Operators, who are responsible for all employment decisions at their restaurants. Each Operator decides how to interview.
Below is what Chick-fil-A itself says about applying, then questions to prepare with how to answer each one for Chick-fil-A. Where Chick-fil-A doesn't say something, we say so.
The Chick-fil-A hiring process at a glance
| Step | What happens | What Chick-fil-A says about timing |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Find a restaurant | Search Chick-fil-A's jobs site by location, or ask your local restaurant. | Not published |
| 2. Application | Apply to that restaurant's posting. Its Operator handles restaurant employment. | Not published |
| 3. Interview | Run by the restaurant, in a format its Operator chooses. | Not published |
| 4. Decision | The Operator makes the hiring decision and contacts you. | Not published; ask the restaurant |
What is the Chick-fil-A hiring process?
You apply to an individual restaurant, and that restaurant's Operator runs the rest. Chick-fil-A's careers FAQ says hiring decisions are made by individual franchised Operators, and that its Operators "handle all matters regarding Restaurant employment". Its restaurant careers page says job opportunities are at the discretion of the franchisee Operator, or of a Chick-fil-A, Inc. Interim Manager where the restaurant has one.
That's why you'll read very different accounts of the process online. Two Chick-fil-A restaurants in the same town can interview differently.

How does the Chick-fil-A application process work?
You find a restaurant that's hiring and apply to its posting. Chick-fil-A's FAQ tells you to visit its employment opportunities page and enter your location to see restaurants with openings near you. You can also contact your local restaurant directly.
- Postings are written by each restaurant. Chick-fil-A says its franchised Operators "handle all matters regarding Restaurant employment", so the posting comes from the restaurant, not from Chick-fil-A, Inc.
- Problems with an application go to the restaurant. Chick-fil-A says to contact the Operator of the restaurant where you want to work.
- Check minimum age with the restaurant. Chick-fil-A doesn't publish a company-wide minimum age.
Chick-fil-A lists four restaurant roles on its restaurant careers page:
| Role | What Chick-fil-A says it is |
|---|---|
| Team Member | Entry-level service and hospitality, front and back of house and drive-thru |
| Team Leader | Entry-level or a promotion; may lead a shift's guest experience or coach Team Members |
| Restaurant Manager | Mid-level; typically leads a full shift or day-part, training and coaching Team Members |
| Restaurant Director | Senior restaurant leadership and a key business partner to the Operator |
What is the Chick-fil-A interview process like?
Chick-fil-A doesn't publish an interview format, length or number of rounds, because each Operator sets their own. When the restaurant contacts you, ask who you'll meet, how long to allow and whether there's more than one conversation.
What you can prepare for is the culture each restaurant hires into. Chick-fil-A describes life as a Team Member as "teamwork and leadership development in a fast-paced environment". Some restaurant postings spell out service habits too. The Oklahoma City posting mentioned above lists:
- The Core 4: eye contact, a smile, a friendly tone and saying "My Pleasure".
- 2nd Mile Service: personalising care, anticipating needs and delighting guests.
- The HEARD model for guest concerns: Hear, Empathize, Apologize, Resolve, Delight.
- No prior experience required, with training provided.
Wording differs between restaurants, so read the posting for the one you're applying to and use its language in your answers.
Does Chick-fil-A have an assessment?
Chick-fil-A doesn't publish any pre-hire test for restaurant roles. If a restaurant asks you to complete one, it's that Operator's choice, and the posting or the restaurant should tell you what it involves. If it shows you work scenarios and asks what you'd do, our guide to situational judgement tests explains that format.
Chick-fil-A interview questions and how to answer them
Chick-fil-A doesn't publish a question list, and every restaurant chooses its own. These are questions to prepare for, chosen to match what Chick-fil-A says matters: its four core values (we're here to serve, we're better together, we are purpose-driven, we pursue what's next) and the service habits restaurants list in their postings.
Use the STAR structure (situation, task, action, result) for "tell me about a time" questions. Our STAR method guide shows how.
1. Why do you want to work at Chick-fil-A?
Make it about the work. "We're here to serve" is the first of Chick-fil-A's values, so talk about enjoying helping people, and name something you've noticed about service at the restaurant you're applying to.
2. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it short: school or work, one thing you're good at, and why a fast-paced team job suits you. If this is your first job, school, sport, volunteering and family responsibilities all count.
3. Tell me about a time you went out of your way for someone.
This is the 2nd Mile Service question in disguise. Pick a story where you did more than you had to, without being asked, and say how the other person reacted.
4. How would you handle a guest who is upset about their order?
Walk through it in order: listen, show you understand, apologise, fix it and leave them happier than before. If the restaurant's posting mentions the HEARD model, use its steps.
5. Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team.
"We're better together" is one of Chick-fil-A's values. Describe what you contributed and how you helped someone else, as well as the result.
6. How do you handle a busy rush?
Chick-fil-A calls its restaurants fast-paced. Show that you stay calm, focus on one task at a time and keep being friendly with guests while you work quickly.
7. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when nobody was watching.
Integrity is one of the core values in the Oklahoma City posting, which defines it as acting rightly even when unsupervised. Choose a true, small example: owning a mistake, finishing a job properly, handing in something you found.
8. What does good service mean to you?
Give specifics: eye contact, a smile, remembering a regular's order, checking the bag before it goes out. These match the Core 4 habits some restaurants describe.
9. Tell me about a time you learned something new quickly.
"We pursue what's next" is about growth. Show that you take instructions well, ask questions and improve quickly.
10. Where do you see yourself in a year or two?
Chick-fil-A's careers pages talk about growth from Team Member to Team Leader and beyond, and about scholarships. If you're interested in leading or studying, say so.
11. What is your availability?
Be honest and match what you put on your application. Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed on Sundays, so availability questions will be about the other six days.
12. For Team Leader roles: tell me about a time you coached someone.
Team Leaders may coach other Team Members. Describe how you noticed the problem, how you explained the better way and what happened afterwards.

What happens after the Chick-fil-A interview?
The restaurant tells you. Chick-fil-A says that to check the status of an application you should contact the restaurant where you applied, which you can find in the Chick-fil-A App or the online restaurant locator. Chick-fil-A doesn't publish how long a decision takes.
If you're hired, Chick-fil-A says Team Members can apply each year for its Remarkable Futures Scholarships, for study with Chick-fil-A or elsewhere.
How do corporate jobs at Chick-fil-A work?
Corporate roles are with Chick-fil-A, Inc. and are listed at careers.chick-fil-a.com. Its headquarters, the Support Center, is in Atlanta. Chick-fil-A's corporate careers page says it looks for "tenacious thinkers with big hearts". It doesn't publish a corporate interview process. Chick-fil-A also runs a Leadership Development Program, internships and co-ops, each with its own page.
How to prepare for a Chick-fil-A interview
- Read the restaurant's posting and note the words it uses: values, service habits, shifts.
- Visit the restaurant as a guest and watch how the team works, so your answers can refer to something real.
- Prepare five short STAR stories: going the extra mile, an upset person, teamwork, a busy moment and doing the right thing.
- Link each story to a value. Serve, better together, purpose-driven and what's next give you a checklist.
- Practise saying them out loud. Our mock interview guide shows how to run one with a friend.
- Know your availability for Monday to Saturday.
- Bring two or three questions about training, shifts and how the team works.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories, and the job rewards calm judgement with guests and teammates. Both improve with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn't affiliated with Chick-fil-A and doesn't use Chick-fil-A's questions or hiring materials.
