Accenture Interview Questions and Hiring Process

The short answer

Accenture hires in six stages: you apply and get a confirmation, a recruiter reviews your application, you’re invited to schedule an interview, you interview by phone, video or in person, some roles add an online assessment, and successful candidates get an offer. Expect behavioural questions on collaboration, problem-solving and learning, which Accenture says it looks for, and a skills or case interview for some roles.

  • Accenture’s technical assessment usually takes 30 to 90 minutes, is done in one sitting and doesn’t allow external AI tools.
  • If you don’t pass, you wait at least 90 days before retaking the same assessment.
  • In India you can have only one active Accenture application at a time.
  • Accenture doesn’t publish a full timeline or the format of its campus tests.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with Accenture and doesn’t use Accenture’s assessments or questions.

Accenture's 2020 careers FAQ said the first step is a phone screening interview; its current careers page says interviews can be by phone, video or in person and the steps depend on the role. Behavioural, skills and case-study interviews are the types Accenture prepares candidates for. Some roles also include an online assessment.

The process details below come from Accenture's careers pages and its careers blog, linked as we go. Where Accenture doesn't say something, we say so. Six of the questions below are examples Accenture itself gives; the rest are questions to prepare for.

What is the Accenture hiring process?

You apply online, a recruiter reviews your application, and if you're a match you're invited to interview. Some roles add an online assessment, and successful candidates receive an offer.

Applying

  • Applying takes about 15 minutes, Accenture says.
  • Recruiters may suggest other roles. You need to submit a separate application for each one.
  • In India, Accenture's local recruiting policy allows only one active application at a time, so choose carefully.
  • If you're not selected, Accenture says it keeps your information in case a suitable role comes up. You can apply again, but each role needs a new application.
  • Accenture never charges. It says no one is ever required to pay for employment at Accenture; report anyone who asks.

Your recruiter is the best source of updates. Accenture says turnaround depends on the role and the business area.

What is the Accenture interview process?

Accenture's 2020 careers FAQ said the first step is a phone screening interview, and the steps after that depend on the role. Your recruiter shares them. Interviews can be by phone, video or in person, and Accenture says it will make any adjustments you need.

Accenture's interview tips page covers these interview types:

The screening interview

A recruiter checks your background and fit. Accenture's recruiter advice is to be ready to summarise your previous roles, why you left them and how your experience fits the job, briefly, with more detail if asked. Research the company's values and the role first.

The behavioural interview

Accenture says the behavioural interview evaluates how you manage and overcome challenging situations. It looks for collaboration, leadership and problem-solving skills, ability to learn, business acumen and emotional resilience, and recommends answering with the STAR method.

The skills interview

For many roles, Accenture says a skills interview follows: a chance to discuss your knowledge and expertise. Its tips are to research the company, the role and the interviewer, and to prepare a short pitch about yourself.

The case-study interview

Some roles include a case interview. Accenture publishes a Case Interview Workbook on its tips page and says it covers what you need for case-study preparation.

What is the Accenture online assessment?

For some roles, Accenture asks you to complete an online activity so it can learn about your technical skills, natural strengths or decision-making. Its technical assessment works like this:

RuleWhat Accenture says
WhenCompleted online in one sitting, typically within 72 hours
LengthMost take about 30 to 90 minutes, depending on your proficiency level
DeviceA coding environment on a laptop or desktop
Time limitIt submits automatically when time runs out
AIExternal AI tools aren't permitted. If a built-in AI Assistant is available, it will be clearly visible and using it is your choice
ScoringScored automatically against predefined criteria, such as test cases or answer keys
InterviewsThe assessment doesn't replace interviews
RetakesIf you don't pass, you wait at least 90 days before retaking the same assessment

To prepare, Accenture suggests reading the instructions, planning uninterrupted time, checking your internet connection, and joining HackerRank's free community and taking its sample test to get used to the coding interface. Our guide to HackerRank tests explains how that platform scores coding answers.

For campus and fresher hiring in India, prep sites describe separate cognitive, coding and communication tests. Accenture's careers pages we checked don't describe these, so treat the question counts, timings and cut-offs you read elsewhere as unconfirmed, and follow the instructions in your assessment email.

Common Accenture interview questions and how to answer them

Accenture publishes six core values in its Code of Business Ethics: Client Value Creation, One Global Network, Respect for the Individual, Best People, Integrity and Stewardship. Several answers below draw on them, and on the qualities Accenture says its behavioural interview looks for.

1. Tell me about yourself.

Accenture's skills interview advice is to answer in three parts: present, past and future. Say what you do now, how you got there, and what you want next, ending on why this Accenture role fits.

2. Why Accenture?

Be specific: the business area you're applying to, a recent piece of Accenture news or a client industry you want to work in. Accenture's tips say to connect your skills to what the role needs, so tie your answer to the job description.

3. Tell me about a time you had to manage a challenging project.

This is one of Accenture's own examples. Use STAR, and show how you planned, kept people informed and handled the problem. Accenture recommends preparing one or two significant project stories that show problem-solving, teamwork and adaptability.

4. Describe a situation in which you embraced a new system, process, technology or idea at work.

Another Accenture example, and it tests the ability to learn Accenture says it looks for. Explain what changed, how you got up to speed and the result. A recent technology relevant to the role makes a strong example.

5. Give an example of when you had to work with someone who was difficult to get along with.

Accenture's example for collaboration. Show that you listened, focused on the shared goal and kept the relationship working. This maps to its value of Respect for the Individual.

6. Tell me about a time you learned a new skill.

Give a concrete example: what you learned, how, and how you used it. Accenture's value of Best People includes challenging people to grow, so show you seek that out.

7. Tell me about a time when you overcame a conflict at work.

Use STAR. Describe the disagreement fairly, what you did to resolve it and what you'd keep doing. Avoid blaming the other person.

8. Tell me about a time you handled a stressful situation when you were under a lot of pressure.

This tests the emotional resilience Accenture names. Pick a real deadline or setback, explain how you prioritised and stayed calm, and give the outcome.

9. Walk me through your CV.

Common in the screening interview. Cover your previous roles, why you moved on and how your experience fits this job, in a couple of minutes. Accenture's recruiters say you can add detail if they ask.

10. Tell me about a time you put the client or customer first.

Accenture's first value is Client Value Creation: being responsive and consistently delivering value. Give an example where you understood what someone needed and delivered it, even if your "client" was a classmate or an internal team.

11. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when it was difficult.

Accenture's Code of Business Ethics starts from always acting with Integrity. A real, small example where you were honest or raised a concern works better than a dramatic one.

12. Explain your main technical skill as if I'm a client.

Expect a version of this in a skills interview. Explain one skill from your CV plainly, with an example of where you used it. Accenture's behavioural tips say answers need substance, structure and style.

13. Do you have any questions for us?

Ask about the team's current work, how people learn new skills on the job, or what a strong first few months looks like. On pay, Accenture's own advice is to let the interviewer raise it.

How to prepare for an Accenture interview

  1. Ask your recruiter which interviews you'll have. Accenture says the steps depend on the role and your recruiter will share them.
  2. Research the business area and the job description, and link your skills to what the role needs.
  3. Prepare five or six STAR stories that cover Accenture's own example questions above. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
  4. Practise your "present, past, future" introduction out loud until it takes about a minute.
  5. For case interviews, work through Accenture's Case Interview Workbook.
  6. For the technical assessment, take HackerRank's sample test, plan uninterrupted time and check your connection.
  7. Do a mock interview with someone who will give you honest feedback.
  8. Ignore anyone asking for money. Accenture says no one is ever required to pay for employment.

Practising realistic work tasks
