What is an open requisition?
An open requisition is an approved request to hire that has not yet been filled, meaning the employer has budget and sign-off for the position and is recruiting for it.

“Open reqs” is how recruiting teams count their live workload: each one is a seat with approval behind it and a hiring manager waiting. A requisition stays open from approval until an offer is accepted, or until it is cancelled or put on hold.
Teams watch how many open requisitions each recruiter carries and how long each has been open, because a requisition that ages without a hire usually points to a problem with the brief, the pay band or the pipeline. Some employers keep evergreen requisitions open all year for roles they hire into continuously.
Also called: open req, open position.
Example
At the start of the quarter a recruiter carries 14 open requisitions. Two close when offers are accepted, one goes on hold after a budget review, and three new ones are approved, leaving 14 open again.
