Hiring glossary

What does “requisition closed” mean?

“Requisition closed” on a job application means the employer has stopped hiring for that opening, usually because it was filled, cancelled or put on hold, and is no longer considering applicants for it.

What does “requisition closed” mean?

A requisition is the internal approval to hire for a position. The status describes the opening, so on its own it says nothing about how your application was judged. It often appears after someone has accepted an offer, but the same label can follow a budget freeze, a reorganisation or a decision to rewrite the role.

Wording varies by employer and applicant-tracking system. “Filled” and “closed” describe the job; phrases such as “no longer under consideration” describe your application. If you interviewed and only see “requisition closed”, it is fine to ask the recruiter what it means for you. A role that reopens may be posted under a new requisition number, so check the careers page again later.

Also called: req closed, position closed.

Example

You applied for a Junior Analyst role, Job ID 48213. Three weeks later your candidate portal shows “Requisition closed”. Most likely someone accepted the offer, though the opening could also have been paused.
