WNS Interview Questions and Hiring Process

The short answer

You apply for a specific role through WNS’s job portal for your country, then go through the screening, any tests and the interviews the recruiter sets for that role. WNS doesn’t publish its interview rounds, so prepare for role questions and for behavioural questions on the three traits it says its people share: a collaborative mindset, a proactive attitude and the ability to learn constantly.

  • WNS says its recruitment is fair, transparent and based purely on merit.
  • WNS doesn’t charge any fee to secure a job. Report anyone who asks to grievance@wns.com.
  • In India, jobs (including walk-in roles) are listed on WNS’s India job board, linked from its careers site.
  • WNS is now part of Capgemini, according to its own website.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with WNS and doesn’t use WNS’s tests or questions.

WNS's hiring process starts with an application for a specific role through the job portal for your country. After that come the screening, any tests and the interviews the recruiter sets for that role. WNS doesn't publish how many interview rounds there are, what any test contains or how long the process takes, so this guide sticks to what WNS says and helps you prepare for the questions you're likely to face.

Everything below comes from WNS's own pages, linked as we go. Where WNS doesn't say something, we say so. The interview questions are ones to prepare for; WNS doesn't publish its questions.

What is the WNS hiring process?

You apply for a role, WNS screens your application, you may take a test, and you interview with its recruiting and hiring teams. WNS's careers page links to job portals for India, Costa Rica, Romania, the UK, South Africa, the Philippines, the US, Turkey, China, Poland and Sri Lanka. It doesn't describe the selection steps.

WNS describes itself as a global digital-led business transformation and services partner. Its Our Story page lists services in customer experience, finance and accounting, HR, procurement, and research and analytics, for industries such as travel, insurance, banking, healthcare, shipping and logistics, and utilities. WNS's website now describes it as part of Capgemini. Read the job description closely to see which service and industry your role sits in, because that shapes the interview.

How do you apply to WNS in India?

WNS's India careers page links to its "Jobs in India" board, where you search roles by city and apply. When we checked, the board included walk-in listings for Bengaluru and Gurgaon. WNS doesn't publish how walk-ins work, so read each listing for the date, venue and documents, and confirm with the recruiter if anything is unclear.

Some listings state the experience they need or the shift timing in the job title. Only apply for roles whose shift you can work.

What is the WNS interview process?

WNS doesn't publish its interview rounds, their order or their length, and they vary by role and country. Ask your recruiter how many conversations to expect, who they're with and whether there's a test.

Plan for two kinds of question in any WNS interview:

  • Role skills. For customer experience roles, expect questions on handling customers and communicating clearly. For finance, analytics or research roles, expect questions on the tools and methods in the job description.
  • Behaviour and traits. WNS's careers page says its people share "a collaborative mindset, a proactive attitude and the ability to learn constantly". Prepare a story for each.

Does WNS have an online assessment?

WNS doesn't publish whether its roles include an online test, or what one would contain. Treat any test names, question counts or pass marks you read elsewhere as unconfirmed. If your recruiter sends a test, ask what it covers and how long it takes.

If the test shows you workplace scenarios and asks what you would do, our guide to situational judgement tests explains that format. If it's a personality or reasoning test, our guide to psychometric assessments covers those.

What happens after the WNS interview?

WNS doesn't publish how long a decision takes. Ask your recruiter when to expect an answer. When an offer arrives, check it against what WNS says on its careers site:

  • No fees. WNS "does not charge any fees of any kind for the purpose of securing employment with the Company".
  • Merit only. WNS says its recruitment process is fair, transparent and purely based on merit.
  • Report violations to grievance@wns.com or the toll-free number 000 800 100 4175.

Common WNS interview questions and how to answer them

Build your answers around the three traits WNS names: collaboration, a proactive attitude and constant learning. WNS also says it believes in "the shared goal of excellence". Use the STAR method for the "tell me about a time" questions.

1. Tell me about yourself.

Give a one-minute summary: your studies or current role, the skills the job description asks for that you have, and one result. End with why this WNS role.

2. Why WNS?

Connect the role to WNS's work for clients in your role's industry, such as insurance, travel or banking. Mention its focus on learning, such as the WNS Learning Academy, if growth matters to you.

3. Tell me about a time you worked closely with a team to deliver something.

This is the collaborative mindset. Say what the team had to deliver, your part in it and how you helped others.

4. Tell me about a time you fixed a problem before anyone asked you to.

This is the proactive attitude. Describe what you noticed, what you did without being told and the result.

5. Tell me about something you learned quickly for work or study.

This is the ability to learn constantly. Name the skill or tool, how you learned it and how you used it.

6. How do you make sure your work is accurate?

WNS says it believes in "the shared goal of excellence", so show what that means in your own work. For operations, finance and analytics roles, explain how you check it: reconciling numbers, re-reading entries, peer review or checklists. Give an example of an error you caught.

7. How would you handle an unhappy customer?

Customer experience is one of WNS's named service lines, so expect this for those roles. Listen, acknowledge the problem, fix what you can, escalate what you can't and follow up, which is the proactive attitude in practice. Give a real example if you have one.

8. How do you handle confidential client or customer information?

Explain that you follow process, share data only with people who need it and report anything that looks wrong. Give an example if you have one.

9. Walk me through a piece of work you're proud of.

Describe the task, what you did, the tools you used and the outcome. For analytics or research roles, explain the question, the data and what decision your work led to.

10. Are you comfortable working night shifts or rotational shifts?

Answer honestly. Some WNS listings state the shift timing, so check it before you apply and only commit to what you can do.

11. Where do you see yourself in a few years?

Talk about the skills you want to build at WNS. Its careers page mentions leadership programmes such as Aspire for emerging leaders, which you can ask about.

12. Do you have any questions for us?

Ask what training through the WNS Learning Academy covers for your role, how someone in the role could later join a programme such as Aspire, or which clients and processes the team supports.

How to prepare for the WNS interview

  1. Read the job description line by line and prepare one example for each main requirement.
  2. Prepare STAR stories for collaboration, being proactive, learning quickly, accuracy and a difficult customer. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
  3. Revise your basics for the role: communication for customer roles, accounting for finance roles, the named tools for analytics roles.
  4. For walk-ins, read the listing for the date, venue and documents to bring.
  5. Ask your recruiter about rounds and tests, since WNS doesn't publish them.
  6. Do a mock interview and practise explaining your work simply.
  7. Never pay a fee. WNS says it charges none.
