Walgreens Interview Questions and Hiring Process 2026

The short answer

Walgreens doesn’t publish its interview questions, so prepare for questions on customer service, accuracy, regulated products and your availability, which is what its job postings centre on. Its hiring process starts with an online application; Walgreens confirms it also uses interviews and, for some roles, assessments, but doesn’t publish the stages, format or timeline.

  • The customer service associate and pharmacy technician postings we checked ask for a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Walgreens says it never asks for payment during hiring and never recruits through social media or instant messaging.
  • You can ask for accommodations for interviews or assessments, such as extended time or an interpreter.
  • Walgreens says it will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with Walgreens and doesn’t use Walgreens’ assessments or questions.

Walgreens doesn't publish its interview questions or a step-by-step hiring process. What it does publish is a clear picture of each role: its job postings list the duties and qualifications, and its careers site says what it values. The questions below are built from those, with how to answer each one for Walgreens.

Everything about the process comes from Walgreens' careers pages and job postings, linked as we go. Where Walgreens doesn't say something, we say so.

What is the Walgreens hiring process?

You apply online for a specific role and location, and Walgreens' hiring team takes it from there. Walgreens' contact page says "the first step is applying online", and its accommodation options cover "interviews or assessments", so you should expect an interview and, for some roles, an assessment. Walgreens doesn't publish the order of those steps, how many interviews there are or how long the process takes.

The careers site at jobs.walgreens.com groups jobs into career areas: pharmacy, in-store, technology, pharmacy micro-fulfilment centres, distribution, call centre and corporate. It also has a "Walgreens Applicants" link to its applicant portal, separate from the one for Duane Reade.

What the postings ask for

We checked three current postings. All three ask for fluency in reading, writing and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico) and say the role stays open until filled.

RoleWhat the posting asks for
Customer service associateA flexible schedule including evenings and weekends; six months of retail experience preferred
Pharmacy technician / Pharm Tech ApprenticeshipA flexible schedule; preferred: retail experience, good maths and computer skills, PTCB certification
Shift leadOne year of prior leadership, supervisory or retail key holder experience

The customer service associate posting covers the register, greeting and helping customers, resolving issues, keeping shelves stocked, the photo area, web pick-up orders, asset protection and compliance with laws on regulated products such as alcohol and tobacco. Read the posting for your role closely: the interview will test the same things.

Does Walgreens have an assessment?

Some roles may. Walgreens doesn't say which roles have an assessment or what it contains, but its accommodations policy lists "interviews or assessments" among the steps it adapts, with options such as large print, interpreters and extended time.

Walgreens doesn't publish the assessment's content, length, scoring or retake rules. If yours shows you workplace scenarios and asks what you'd do, it's a situational judgement format; our guide to situational judgement tests explains how that works in general. Do it somewhere quiet and answer as you would actually work.

What is the Walgreens interview process like?

Walgreens doesn't publish its interview format, who you'll meet or how long it lasts. The person who contacts you to arrange the interview can tell you; it's a reasonable thing to ask.

If you need an accommodation, Walgreens asks you to email yourhrsupport@hr.walgreens.com with the Requisition ID of the job. It also says it tries to hold interviews and assessments in accessible locations.

How do you spot a fake Walgreens job offer?

Walgreens' contact page says it never asks for payment during the hiring process and doesn't use social media or instant messaging services for hiring. To check a message, search for the posting on Walgreens' careers site, or report it to corporate.careers@walgreens.com.

Walgreens interview questions to prepare for

Walgreens' purpose, on its corporate site, is "We exist to be the best community retail pharmacy". Its careers site talks about "helping people in the communities you serve" and says "caring is a thread that runs through it all". The questions below are ones to prepare for, built from that and from the postings. They aren't a leaked list.

1. Why do you want to work at Walgreens?

Tie your answer to the community and health side of the job. Walgreens' corporate site describes its role as "helping people live healthier lives through personal care, trusted advice and accessible services". A specific reason, such as a local store you know or an interest in pharmacy, is stronger than a general one.

2. Tell me about a time you helped a customer find what they needed.

The customer service associate posting asks you to greet customers and offer help with products and services. Pick an example where you noticed someone needed help, asked a question to understand what they wanted, and followed through.

3. Tell me about a time you resolved a customer's complaint.

Resolving customer issues is listed in the posting. Show that you listened, stayed calm, fixed what you could and brought in a manager when you needed to.

4. What is your availability?

The customer service associate and pharmacy technician postings require a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and the shift lead posting lists weekend, day and night shifts. Be specific and honest, and make sure it matches what you put on your application.

5. A customer wants to buy alcohol or tobacco but has no valid ID. What do you do?

The posting includes complying with state and local laws on regulated products. The right answer is to decline the sale politely, explain the rule, and involve a manager if the customer pushes back.

6. What would you do if you saw someone you thought was shoplifting?

Walgreens asks associates to follow its asset protection procedures. Say you'd follow the store's procedure and involve a manager, rather than improvise. Don't invent a policy you haven't been trained on.

7. How do you handle several tasks at once, like the register, web pick-up orders and the photo area?

The posting lists all of these. Describe how you prioritise the customer in front of you, keep others informed when they have to wait, and come back to tasks you've parked.

8. Tell me about a time accuracy really mattered in your work.

For pharmacy technicians, the posting lists entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, checking for interactions and reporting errors straight away, with good maths skills preferred. Choose an example where you double-checked your work or caught a mistake.

9. How would you protect a patient's privacy at the pharmacy counter?

Pharmacy work involves personal health information. Talk about speaking quietly, not discussing a patient's medicines where others can hear, and checking identity before handing over a prescription.

10. Why do you want to be a pharmacy technician?

Walgreens' apprenticeship is "earn while you learn" and prepares you for PTCB certification. Show you understand the role supports the pharmacist and that you're committed to getting certified.

11. Tell me about a time you led or coached someone.

For shift lead roles, the posting describes acting as a liaison between management and team members, modelling and sharing customer service best practices, and coaching team members on the ordering process. Give an example of helping someone improve, with the result.

12. Where do you see yourself in a few years?

Walgreens says it promotes from within and lets customer service associates move into roles such as pharmacy technician or inventory specialist. Naming a realistic next step at Walgreens shows you've looked.

13. Do you have any questions for us?

Ask about training for the role, typical shifts at that store, or what a good first month looks like. Have two ready.

Structure your examples with the STAR method (situation, task, action, result). Our STAR method guide walks through it, and our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise.

How to prepare for a Walgreens interview

  1. Read the posting for your exact role and location. Note every duty and qualification; they are your best guide to the questions.
  2. Be clear on your availability for evenings and weekends before you're asked.
  3. Prepare five or six STAR stories about helping customers, handling complaints, accuracy, teamwork and following rules. Practise them out loud, ideally in a mock interview.
  4. For pharmacy roles, read about Walgreens' technician training and certification support on its career development page.
  5. Ask for an accommodation early if you need one, quoting the Requisition ID.
  6. Bring two or three questions about training, shifts and the team.

Does Walgreens train pharmacy technicians?
