You apply to Amgen through its careers site, upload a resume, and follow your application in your candidate account. Amgen doesn't publish what happens between applying and an offer: its careers FAQ has no entries on interview rounds, assessments or timing. What it does publish in detail is its mission, "To Serve Patients", and eight values, and those are what to prepare around.
Everything below comes from Amgen's own careers and corporate pages, linked as we go. Where Amgen doesn't say something, we say so.

What is the Amgen hiring process?
Amgen's published process covers the application. You find a role, create an account, apply with your resume and track your status online. Amgen doesn't publish the steps after that, so the recruiter who contacts you is the best source for what comes next in your case.

How do you apply to Amgen?
Apply on careers.amgen.com. The details come from Amgen's careers FAQ:
- Create a candidate account. Click "Apply" on a job, then "Create Account". Returning candidates sign in through "Returning Candidate" at the top right of the careers page.
- Quick Apply takes your resume first. You can add more documents, such as a cover letter, on the "My Experience" page. Amgen accepts DOC, DOCX, HTML, PDF and TXT files up to 5MB.
- Check before you submit. Amgen says, "Once a resume is submitted it cannot be updated, changed and/or edited." You can upload a new version when you apply for another role.
- Use Chrome if the form errors. Amgen prefers Google Chrome, and suggests clearing your cache and checking the role is still open.
- Current employees apply within Workday, through MyHR.
- No suitable role yet? Join the Talent Network for alerts. Amgen says it can't accept resumes sent to its Talent Acquisition Inquiries inbox.
Amgen's careers site groups jobs into research and development, operations, global markets and policy, corporate functions, and digital innovation and technology, with locations around the world including Hyderabad in India.
What does an Amgen job posting tell you?
The Summer 2027 undergraduate internship posting we checked had three sections worth reading closely:
- What You Will Do: the work and the team.
- What We Expect of You: basic qualifications (the requirements) and preferred qualifications.
- What You Can Expect of Us: development, culture and benefits.
Match your resume to the basic qualifications line by line, then show as many preferred ones as you honestly can. That posting also said Amgen had no application deadline for the role and would keep accepting applications until it received enough or selected a candidate, so applying early is sensible. It also said you may remove age-identifying details such as graduation dates without being penalised.
What is the Amgen interview process?
Amgen doesn't publish its interview process. It doesn't say how many rounds there are, whether interviews are by phone, video or in person, or how long they last, and this varies by role and location. Ask your recruiter who you'll meet, in what format and how long to allow.
Two things Amgen does say apply to every interview:
- Honesty. Amgen says it expects "all job applicants to act with honesty and integrity", and that false, misleading or omitted information can lead to immediate disqualification.
- Accommodations. Amgen's job postings say individuals with disabilities will be provided reasonable accommodation to take part in the application or interview process. Ask for one when you're invited.
Does Amgen have an online assessment?
Amgen doesn't say. Its careers pages and FAQ don't mention an online test, a personality questionnaire or a coding assessment, and they name no test provider. If you're invited to one, the invitation should explain the format. Our guides to situational judgement tests and psychometric assessments explain the common formats in general.
How long does the Amgen hiring process take?
Amgen doesn't publish a timeline. Check your status under Candidate Home > My Applications in your Amgen account. Its postings say it keeps accepting applications until it has enough or selects a candidate, so roles can close without a fixed date.
How do students and graduates join Amgen?
Amgen's Students and Graduates page lists:
| Programme | Who it's for |
|---|---|
| Internships, co-ops and rotational programmes | Students, across Amgen's functions |
| MBA and graduate internships | Graduate students: Commercial Leadership Program, Finance & Strategy Leadership Program and Operations Graduate Program |
| Postbaccalaureate Fellows Program | Bachelor's-level STEM graduates heading for PhD or MD/PhD programmes |
| Postdoctoral Fellows Program | A four-year postdoctoral training programme for scientists |
Eligibility is set on each posting. The Summer 2027 undergraduate internship we checked required applicants to be 18 or older and enrolled full-time in a bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA or equivalent, so read the requirements on the posting you apply for.
Amgen also runs a Military Fellowship Program for service members in their last 180 days of active duty and for military spouses, through partners including Hiring Our Heroes and the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program.
What does Amgen look for?
Amgen's mission is "To Serve Patients", and its mission and values page lists eight values. Its postings describe the culture as "collaborative, innovative, and science based".
| Amgen value | What to show in your answers |
|---|---|
| Be Science-Based | You decide from data and test your assumptions |
| Compete Intensely and Win | You move fast, take sensible risks and don't rest on past results |
| Create Value for Patients, Staff and Stockholders | You keep the end user in view |
| Be Ethical | You hold a high standard when it's inconvenient |
| Trust and Respect Each Other | You treat colleagues well and take personal initiative |
| Ensure Quality | You care about getting the detail right |
| Work in Teams | You work across functions to move things forward |
| Collaborate, Communicate and Be Accountable | You seek input, explain decisions and own the result |
Common Amgen interview questions and how to answer them
Amgen doesn't publish its interview questions. These are questions to prepare for, based on its published mission, values and job postings. Use the STAR structure (situation, task, action, result) for the "tell me about a time" ones; our STAR method guide explains it.
1. Why Amgen?
Amgen puts its mission, serving patients, at the top of its careers pages and postings. Connect your answer to that and to the specific function you're applying to, whether it's research, manufacturing, commercial or technology.
2. Walk me through your resume.
Keep it short and tie each step to the posting's basic and preferred qualifications. End with why this role is the next logical move.
3. Tell me about a decision you made from data.
This maps to Be Science-Based, which Amgen describes as designing the right experiment, collecting and analysing data and making rational decisions. Show the question you asked, the evidence you gathered and how it changed your decision.
4. Tell me about an experiment or analysis that didn't work.
Science involves failed experiments. Explain what you learned, how you changed your approach and what you'd do differently. This also shows the continuous improvement Amgen names under Be Science-Based.
5. Tell me about a time you had to deliver quickly without cutting corners.
Compete Intensely and Win asks for speed, and Ensure Quality asks for high standards. Show how you held both: what you prioritised, what you refused to skip and the result.
6. Tell me about a time you faced an ethical dilemma.
Be Ethical is one of Amgen's values, and in a regulated industry it matters in every role. Describe the pressure, what you did and why. Keep it real and specific.
7. Tell me about a mistake you caught, or made.
This tests Ensure Quality and honesty together. Say how the mistake was found, how you fixed it and what you changed so it wouldn't happen again.
8. Tell me about a cross-functional project.
Amgen's Work in Teams value talks about moving discoveries from the lab through the clinic to the market. Pick a project where you worked with people in other functions and be clear about your own part.
9. Tell me about a time you disagreed with a decision.
Amgen's leaders are expected to welcome conflicting views, then everyone is accountable once a decision is made. Show that you raised your view constructively and committed once the call was made.
10. How has your work helped the people it serves?
Create Value for Patients, Staff and Stockholders starts with patients' needs. If you haven't worked in healthcare, talk about customers or end users and what changed for them.
11. Tell me about something you started on your own initiative.
Trust and Respect Each Other says trust is strengthened through personal initiative. Pick something nobody asked you to do, and say why you started it and what came of it.
12. Explain a technical piece of your work to someone outside your field.
Collaboration across functions depends on clear communication. Practise explaining a project in two or three plain sentences.
13. Do you have any questions for us?
Ask about the team, how success is measured in the first year and how the role connects to patients. For programmes, ask how rotations or projects are assigned.
Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
How to prepare for the Amgen interview process
- Read the posting's three sections and match your resume to "What We Expect of You".
- Check your resume before submitting. You can't edit it for that role afterwards.
- Learn Amgen's eight values and prepare a STAR story for at least five of them.
- Read about Amgen's therapeutic areas and the team you'd join, so "Why Amgen?" has something specific in it.
- Ask your recruiter about format, rounds and timing, since Amgen doesn't publish them.
- Do a mock interview with someone who'll push you for specifics.
- Ask for an accommodation if you need one. Amgen's postings say it provides them in the application and interview process.
Watch for recruitment scams. Amgen says official communications come from channels on the amgen.com domain, and that it and its recruiting partners never ask for payment, gift cards, cryptocurrency, purchases or banking information.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories, and those stories are easier to tell when you've practised the work itself. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with Amgen and doesn't use Amgen's assessments or interview questions.
