Texas Roadhouse interview questions
Texas Roadhouse doesn't publish its questions. These are the topics its careers site and postings point to, with how to answer each one for Texas Roadhouse.
1. Why do you want to be a Roadie?
Texas Roadhouse calls itself "a people-first company that just happens to serve steaks". Say what appeals: the team, the energy of a busy restaurant, the chance to learn and move up. If you've eaten there, mention what you noticed about the service.
2. What does Legendary Service mean to you?
"Legendary Food and Legendary Service is who we are." Give concrete behaviour: a genuine welcome, getting bread to the table quickly, checking back at the right moments, and going out of your way when something goes wrong.
3. How would you welcome a first-time guest?
The Host posting asks hosts to give "our First-Time Guests an extra special welcome" and tell each guest "our legendary Texas Roadhouse Story". Show you'd learn the story, greet warmly and explain what to expect.
4. How would you manage a long wait at the door?
Hosts maintain "wait and quote times". Explain how you'd give honest wait times, keep guests updated and stay friendly when people get impatient.
5. Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team under pressure.
The Line Cook posting says its kitchen teams "know how to partner up and hustle". Pick a real example of a rush, say what you did and how you helped others keep up. Partnership is one of the four core values.
6. How do you handle a guest who is unhappy with their meal?
The Host posting asks staff to go "out of your way to assist every guest", and the Server posting talks about the "Legendary Service" guests expect. Describe listening, apologising and fixing it quickly with the kitchen, and involving a manager when needed. Show the guest still left happy.
7. Tell me about something you learned quickly.
"Willingness to learn" appears in both the Server and Line Cook postings. Use an example where you picked up a new skill fast, and say how you'd approach learning the menu or a station.
8. How do you keep your station clean and food safe?
For kitchen roles, Texas Roadhouse stresses "high standards for cleanliness and sanitation", and its Kitchen Manager posting mentions Taste & Temp checks. Talk about following recipes exactly, cleaning as you go, labelling and safe food handling.
9. What does integrity look like at work?
Integrity is a core value. Give an example of owning a mistake, being honest about a problem or following a rule when nobody was watching.
10. How do you bring fun to a shift?
Fun "with purpose" is a core value, and the careers site mentions friendly competitions and recognition. Show you can keep spirits up during a rush while still getting the work done.
11. What is your availability?
Postings say schedules "offer hours that work for you". Be exact about the days and hours you can work, including evenings and weekends.
12. Where do you want to be in a year or two?
Texas Roadhouse says it "often promote[s] from within" and cross-trains. If you're interested in learning another station or leading a shift, say so.
13. How would you coach a team member who is falling behind? (manager roles)
Manager postings mention daily feedback in one-on-ones, coaching and performance evaluations. Describe how you'd spot the problem, give specific feedback, follow up, and recognise improvement.
Our STAR method guide shows how to structure "tell me about a time" answers, and our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise with.
