Red Robin interview questions are likely to come back to its four core values: Integrity, Fun, Unbridled Hospitality and High Performance. Red Robin names these in its latest annual report, and says it wants team members who "demonstrate and benefit from" them.

Red Robin doesn't publish a step-by-step hiring process that we could read. Its careers page blocked our checks, so everything below comes from Red Robin's investor site and its annual report for fiscal 2025, linked as we go. Where Red Robin doesn't say something, we say so rather than guess.

What is the Red Robin hiring process?

Red Robin's annual report says each restaurant's management team is responsible for day-to-day operations, "including hiring, training, and staffing".

A typical management team is a Managing Partner (Red Robin's name for the restaurant manager), an Assistant General Manager and a Kitchen Manager. Busier restaurants may also have Service Managers, Associate Managers or Shift Supervisors. Red Robin doesn't say which of them interviews candidates.

How do you apply to Red Robin?

Red Robin's careers page is on redrobin.com. It blocked automated access when we checked, so we haven't described its application steps. Apply through redrobin.com directly, or ask a manager at the restaurant you want to work at how they're hiring.

Does Red Robin have an assessment?

Red Robin doesn't publish one. If the application asks you scenario questions about what you'd do at work, answer as you actually would. Our guide to situational judgement tests explains how that format works in general.

What is the Red Robin interview like?

Red Robin doesn't publish its interview format, length or number of rounds. Because hiring sits with each restaurant's managers, it will vary by location. Ask whoever schedules you who you'll meet and how long to allow.

How long does the Red Robin hiring process take?

Red Robin doesn't publish a timeline. If you haven't heard back, a polite call or visit to the restaurant outside its busiest hours is a reasonable way to follow up.

What happens after you're hired at Red Robin?

Red Robin says its training uses "a blended learning design": digital content plus on-the-job training from Certified Learning Coaches, led by a Head Learning Coach and the restaurant's Managing Partner. It ends in a final skills certification.

From there, Red Robin says team members can move up to Shift Supervisor through its Management training program. New restaurant managers take an eight-week Management Foundations programme covering Red Robin's standards, "flawless shift execution" and coaching team members. Restaurant leaders must also pass and keep a manager-level food safety certification.

What does Red Robin look for?

Red Robin's mission is "Awesome American Food and Bottomless Fun" and its vision is to "Be the Most Loved Restaurant Brand in the Communities we Serve", according to its investor site. Its four core values are the clearest guide to what interviewers want to hear:

ValueWhat to show in an interview
IntegrityYou're honest, follow the rules and own your mistakes
FunYou bring energy and make guests and teammates enjoy the visit
Unbridled HospitalityYou go out of your way for guests of all ages
High PerformanceYou work fast and accurately, and hold standards on busy shifts

Red Robin's 2025 First Choice plan adds a "Win Together" pillar: a "guest facing" culture, an ownership mentality, rewarding performance, developing leaders and "Do the right thing". The restaurants are known for burgers with Bottomless Steak Fries in a setting Red Robin describes as "welcoming to guests of all ages", so family-friendly service matters.

Red Robin interview questions and how to answer them

Red Robin doesn't publish its interview questions. The ones below are likely topics drawn from its values and strategy, not questions Red Robin confirms it asks. Use the STAR method for the "tell me about a time" questions.

1. Why do you want to work at Red Robin?

Be specific. Mention something you like about the restaurant, such as its family-friendly feel or the menu, and link it to a value, like Fun or Unbridled Hospitality.

2. What is your availability?

Most Red Robin restaurant team members work part-time hourly shifts, so be clear and honest about the days and hours you can work, including evenings and weekends if you can.

3. Tell me about your customer service or restaurant experience.

Pick the experience closest to the role. If you haven't worked in a restaurant, use any job, team or volunteer role where you looked after people.

4. What does great hospitality look like to you?

Unbridled Hospitality is a core value. Describe specific actions: greeting guests quickly, checking back at the right moments, remembering a regular's order, making children feel welcome.

5. A guest is unhappy with their burger. What do you do?

Listen, apologise, offer to fix it straight away and tell a manager if needed. Then check back. Show you'd keep the guest's visit enjoyable.

6. How would you handle a rush when every table is full?

High Performance is about holding standards when it's busy. Explain how you prioritise, stay calm, communicate with the kitchen and ask teammates for help.

7. How would you make a family with young children feel welcome?

Red Robin says it welcomes guests of all ages. Talk about being patient, being quick to get them settled, and keeping the mood light.

8. Tell me about a time you helped a teammate.

Red Robin's core objective is "winning together". Give an example where you stepped in without being asked, and what happened.

9. Tell me about a mistake you made at work.

This tests Integrity. Choose a real mistake, how you owned it, how you fixed it and what you do differently now.

10. How do you bring fun to work without letting standards slip?

Fun is a core value, and so is High Performance. Give an example of keeping energy up on a shift while still getting orders right and on time.

11. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when nobody was watching.

"Do the right thing" is part of Red Robin's Win Together pillar. Food safety, honesty with cash or tips, and following procedures are all good examples.

12. Where do you see yourself at Red Robin in a year?

Red Robin develops leaders from within, through its Management training program and Shift Supervisor role. If you're interested, say so, and mention you'd want to earn your skills certification first.

13. For managers: how do you coach a new team member?

Red Robin trains through Certified Learning Coaches and expects managers to coach. Describe how you show, observe, give feedback and check the person is ready on their own.

How to prepare for a Red Robin interview

  1. Know the four core values and prepare one example for each.
  2. Visit the restaurant if you can, so you can talk about what you noticed.
  3. Be clear on your availability before you walk in.
  4. Prepare three or four short stories about guests, teamwork, a busy shift and a mistake. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
  5. Practise aloud, ideally in a mock interview.
  6. Bring two or three questions about training, shifts and how people move up.

Practising realistic work tasks

Interviews reward prepared stories. Good judgement on a busy shift improves with practice on realistic tasks. It isn't affiliated with Red Robin and doesn't use Red Robin's questions.
