What is the Raising Cane's interview like?
Cane's doesn't describe its interview format, length or who runs it. Its career path page lists hiring among the Assistant Restaurant Leader's duties ("Hire and develop a strong team"). When the restaurant contacts you, ask who you'll meet and how long to allow.
What Cane's does publish is the list of qualities it wants. Every answer you give should show one of them:
| Quality Cane's lists | What to show |
|---|---|
| Team player | You help others without being asked |
| Excellent communicator | You speak clearly to customers and Crew |
| Happy, courteous and enthusiastic | You stay friendly when it's busy |
| Hard working and attentive | You notice what needs doing and do it |
| Responsible and dependable | You turn up on time for every shift |
| Authentic and genuine | You answer as yourself |
| Takes pride in doing a good job | You care about getting the details right |
Does Raising Cane's have an assessment?
Cane's doesn't publish an assessment for Crew or management roles. If you're asked to complete one, read the instructions carefully and answer as you actually work. Our guide to situational judgement tests explains how scenario-based tests work in general.
How long does the Raising Cane's hiring process take?
Cane's doesn't publish a timeline. Its Crewmember and Cashier listings say it is "hiring immediately" for all shifts. It doesn't say how quickly you'll hear back after applying. If you haven't heard after applying, a polite call or visit to the restaurant outside its busiest hours is reasonable.
Raising Cane's interview questions and how to answer them
Cane's doesn't publish its interview questions. These are the questions to prepare for, built from the qualities and requirements Cane's lists for its Crew. For "tell me about a time" questions, use the STAR method: situation, task, action, result.
1. Why do you want to work at Raising Cane's?
Give a specific reason. Cane's says "Life at Cane's is fast, friendly… and fun!" and promotes paid training, flexible scheduling and a career path that can lead to Restaurant Partner. Pick the one that's true for you, and add something you like about the restaurant as a customer.
2. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it to about a minute. Mention any customer-facing or team experience, one quality from Cane's list that describes you, and why you're applying now. If this is your first job, talk about school, sport or volunteering where you worked with others.
3. Are you comfortable working any station?
Cane's says "we're all Fry Cooks and Cashiers" and that every person "pitches in wherever needed". Say yes, and give an example of a time you picked up a task outside your usual role.
4. How would you handle a long drive-thru line?
Cane's asks Crew to "work under pressure and at a fast pace" and also says it will "never sacrifice quality for speed". Show both: you'd stay friendly, move quickly, and still check each order is right before it goes out.
5. Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team.
"Team player" is the first quality Cane's lists. Describe a time you helped a teammate, shared the load during a rush or kept a group task on track.
6. How do you make sure you're on time for every shift?
Cane's lists "Ability to show up to scheduled shifts on time" as an essential function. Explain how you plan your transport and schedule, and what you'd do if you were ever running late.
7. A customer says their order is wrong. What do you do?
Cane's wants Crew who give "quick and friendly service". Apologise, listen, fix the order quickly and make sure the customer leaves happy. Bring in a manager if you can't resolve it.
8. Tell me about a time you took initiative.
Cane's asks Crew to "take initiative". Pick an example where you saw something that needed doing, such as restocking, cleaning or helping a new colleague, and did it without being asked.
9. How do you balance working hard and having fun?
Cane's wants Crew who "align with Raising Cane's culture by balancing Working Hard and Having Fun". Show that you take the work seriously and that you're good to work alongside: friendly, upbeat and supportive of the Crew.
10. Tell me about a time you made a mistake.
Cane's lists accountability among the things Crew give. Choose a real, modest mistake, say how you put it right and what you do differently now.
11. What is your availability?
Be exact and honest. Cane's hires for morning, dinner and close, and late-night shifts, so say which ones you can work, including weekends.
12. Do you have any questions for us?
Always say yes. Ask about training for new Crewmembers, how schedules are set, or how people move up to Certified Trainer.
