Pfizer Interview Questions and Hiring Process

The short answer

Every Pfizer job offer follows a formal recruitment process that includes an interview, and some roles add assessments such as online tests, coding tests or writing samples. Expect questions that test Pfizer’s four values: courage, excellence, equity and joy.

  • Apply through Pfizer’s own careers site. Pfizer never charges applicants fees, and real emails come from @pfizer.com.
  • Pfizer lets you use AI to research and practise, but not in interviews, and not in assessments unless it says so.
  • Pfizer says it wants people who push what’s possible, collaborate beyond job titles and want to improve global health.
  • Pfizer doesn’t publish a timeline, the number of interview rounds or what its assessments contain.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with Pfizer and doesn’t use Pfizer’s assessments or questions.

Pfizer's hiring process always includes an interview. Pfizer says a formal recruitment process is required for every authorised position before it makes an offer, and that the process "includes an interview and never requires payment or fees" from applicants. Some roles also include assessments.

The details below come from Pfizer's careers pages, linked as we go. Pfizer's US careers site couldn't be read for this guide, so we used its UK, Canadian and Australian careers sites. Where Pfizer doesn't say something, we say so. The questions are ones to prepare for, built on Pfizer's values; Pfizer doesn't publish a list of its interview questions.

What is the Pfizer hiring process?

You apply online, interview, may complete an assessment depending on the role, and receive an offer if selected. Pfizer's UK careers page states that every authorised position goes through a formal recruitment process, including an interview, before an offer is made.

Applying

  • Apply only through Pfizer's careers site. Pfizer tells candidates to apply to current openings through its own website.
  • Pick your area. Pfizer lists job areas including research and development, manufacturing, sales and marketing, people (HR), compliance and legal, finance, business services, digital, and corporate affairs.
  • Use AI honestly. Pfizer's AI guidance for candidates allows AI for proofreading your CV and cover letter, as long as they reflect your real experience. It bans exaggerating or inventing experience and adding hidden or white text to influence automated screening.
  • Watch for scams. Pfizer warns that scammers pose as its recruiters. Real Pfizer communications come from an @pfizer.com address, and Pfizer never asks applicants for fees.

Student programmes

For Pfizer UK's summer student programme, you submit an application form (a cover letter is optional), managers choose who to interview on a rolling basis, and interviews typically run from April to mid-June. Pfizer UK's undergraduate placements start each September, with recruitment beginning a full year earlier.

Does Pfizer have an assessment?

Some roles do. Pfizer's AI guidance for candidates mentions technical or leadership assessments, coding tests, writing samples and online tests, and says you mustn't use AI on them unless Pfizer explicitly allows it. Pfizer doesn't say which roles use which assessment, what they contain or how they're scored.

If your assessment presents workplace scenarios and asks what you'd do, it's a situational judgement format; our guide to situational judgement tests explains how that works. For anything else, ask your recruiter what the assessment covers and how long to allow.

What is the Pfizer interview process?

Pfizer requires at least one interview before any offer. Its guidance refers to live and recorded interviews, so you may be asked to record video answers for some roles. Pfizer doesn't publish how many rounds there are or how long they last; your recruiter can tell you.

If you get a recorded interview, our guide to one-way video interviews explains the format. Pfizer's rule is clear: no AI or other external tools to generate your answers in live or recorded interviews, including chat assistants, hidden prompts or scripts.

Pfizer's values: what interviewers listen for

Pfizer publishes four values on its careers site:

ValueWhat Pfizer says
Courage"Breakthroughs start by challenging convention, especially in the face of uncertainty or adversity."
Excellence"We can only change patients' lives when we perform at our best together."
Equity"We believe that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and cared for."
Joy"We find joy when we take pride, recognise one another, and have fun."

Pfizer also says it looks for people who want to push what's possible, who collaborate with people beyond their job title, and who are determined to help deliver better global health for all. Prepare at least one story for each value, in STAR form (situation, task, action, result). Our STAR method guide explains it.

Common Pfizer interview questions

1. "Why do you want to work at Pfizer?"

Connect your answer to patients. Pfizer frames its work around changing patients' lives, so name the area you'd work in, what you'd bring to it and why it matters to you. Avoid answering only with the company's size or reputation.

2. "Tell me about a time you challenged the usual way of doing something."

This tests Courage: "Breakthroughs start by challenging convention, especially in the face of uncertainty or adversity." Show a sensible challenge backed by evidence, how you won people over, and the result.

3. "Describe a time you raised a concern that others didn't want to hear."

Also Courage, and essential in a regulated industry. Show that you spoke up early, through the right channel, with facts.

4. "Tell me about your best piece of work and how you achieved it."

This is Excellence, which Pfizer links to performing "at our best together". Credit the team and be specific about your own part and the standard you held yourself to.

5. "Tell me about a time you worked with people outside your own team or function."

Pfizer says it wants people who collaborate beyond job titles. Pick an example that crossed functions, such as R&D with manufacturing or sales with medical, and explain how you aligned different goals.

6. "How have you made sure someone felt heard when they weren't being listened to?"

This tests Equity: every person "deserves to be seen, heard, and cared for". Use an example from a team, a customer or a patient, and show what you did, not just what you felt.

7. "How do you recognise the people you work with?"

Joy, for Pfizer, includes taking pride and recognising one another. Give a concrete example of celebrating someone else's work.

8. "Tell me about a time you made a mistake at work."

Excellence and honesty both matter where quality and compliance are strict. Own the mistake, explain how you fixed it and what you changed so it didn't happen again.

9. "Describe a time you had to follow a strict process or regulation."

Many Pfizer roles sit in a regulated environment. Show that you follow procedures carefully, document your work and escalate when something doesn't look right.

10. "Tell me about a time you had to learn something new quickly."

Pfizer says careers there aren't always linear and welcomes moving between roles. Show how you get up to speed and prove it with a result.

11. "How have you used data to make a decision?"

Common in research, manufacturing, digital and commercial roles. Explain the question, the data you used, what you concluded and what you'd check differently next time.

12. "What questions do you have for us?"

Ask two or three: how the team measures success, how it works with other functions, and what a strong first year looks like.

How to prepare for a Pfizer interview

  1. Read the job posting closely and tailor your CV to it, honestly.
  2. Research Pfizer's work in your area, such as the medicines or therapy areas the team supports, so "Why Pfizer?" has a specific answer.
  3. Write STAR stories for each of the four values and for working across teams.
  4. Revise the technical basics for your role before any assessment.
  5. Practise out loud, ideally in a mock interview with someone who will give you honest feedback. Pfizer's guidance allows AI for practising questions.
  6. Prepare questions for your interviewers.

Practising realistic work tasks

Interviews reward prepared stories. Assessments reward skill and judgement, and those improve with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with Pfizer and doesn't use Pfizer's assessments or questions.

FAQs

How long does the Pfizer hiring process take?

Pfizer doesn't publish a timeline. For its UK summer student programme, it says interviews typically run between April and mid-June. For other roles, ask your recruiter.

Can I use AI when applying to Pfizer?

Yes, for some things. Pfizer allows AI for researching the company, proofreading your CV and practising interview questions. It doesn't allow AI in live or recorded interviews, or in assessments and coding tests unless explicitly permitted, or to misrepresent your experience.

Does Pfizer do video interviews?

Pfizer's guidance refers to live and recorded interviews, so video is possible. It doesn't say which roles use which format.

Does Pfizer ask for fees during hiring?

No. Pfizer says its recruitment process never requires payment or fees from applicants. Treat any request for money as a scam, and check that emails come from an @pfizer.com address.
