IndiGo Interview Questions and Hiring Process

The short answer

IndiGo hires through online applications and hiring events. For cabin crew, IndiGo says the assessment day can last a full day, your height and weight are checked first, and selected candidates train for about three months in Gurgaon. Expect questions on customer service, safety and ownership, which IndiGo puts at the centre of its "I am the I in IndiGo" culture.

  • You don’t need previous cabin crew experience to apply for IndiGo’s Cabin Attendant Grade Training.
  • IndiGo doesn’t publish an online test, its content or a hiring timeline for any role.
  • Pilots can join through Cadet Pilot Programs run with partner flight schools, or apply directly if they meet the licence criteria.
  • IndiGo never charges for interviews or jobs, and offers come only from @goindigo.in email addresses.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with IndiGo and doesn’t use IndiGo’s assessments or questions.

IndiGo interviews look for people who put passenger safety first and serve customers warmly. Its careers site says it wants "warm, optimistic, and ever so helpful people" at its airports, and that its cabin crew are "brand ambassadors of IndiGo".

Everything about the process below comes from IndiGo's own careers pages. Where IndiGo doesn't say something, we say so. The interview questions are ones to prepare for; IndiGo doesn't publish a question list.

What is the IndiGo hiring process?

You apply online or at a hiring event, meet the role's eligibility criteria, go through IndiGo's assessment and interviews, and receive an offer by email if selected. The steps differ by department, and IndiGo publishes the most detail for cabin crew and pilots.

IndiGo's careers site lists departments including Airport Operations & Customer Services, Inflight Services, Engineering, Flight Operations, CarGo, Digital, Finance and others. Its hiring events page lists events for cabin crew, airport operations and customer services, engineering and corporate roles.

How do you apply to IndiGo?

Apply through the Jobs section of IndiGo's careers site or at a listed hiring event. For cabin crew, IndiGo says you receive an Application ID after applying online, and you must write it on top of your resume for the assessment day.

What does IndiGo check before the interview?

IndiGo checks that you meet the published criteria for the role. For cabin crew, it checks height and weight on the day, and only candidates who meet them in full go on to the next round.

The Inflight Services page sets out the Cabin Attendant Grade Training criteria for candidates with no prior flying experience:

CriterionWhat IndiGo states
Nationality and ageFemale Indian nationals with an Indian passport, aged 18 to 27
EducationMinimum 10+2 from a recognised board or university
CommunicationFluency and clarity of speech in English and Hindi
Height and BMIMinimum 155 cm; BMI 18 to 22
AppearancePositive body language, well groomed, no tattoos visible in uniform

What happens on the IndiGo cabin crew assessment day?

It can take a full day, and IndiGo expects you to arrive "well prepared" with knowledge of the eligibility criteria, the cabin crew profile and the company. IndiGo doesn't publish what each round contains.

IndiGo's instructions for the day:

  • Dress code: a half-sleeve shirt and a knee-length, well-fitted skirt with black stockings.
  • Bring: two passport-size photographs, a printed and a soft copy of your updated resume, and photocopies of your 10th and 12th mark sheets, Aadhaar card, PAN card and passport.
  • On your resume: write where you heard about the interview, your age, height, weight and Application ID at the top, and staple a passport-size photo to it.
  • Come alone: only candidates are allowed at the assessment location.

How do pilots join IndiGo?

Through Cadet Pilot Programs run with partner flight schools, or by applying directly if you hold the licences IndiGo lists. The cadet programmes lead to a Commercial Pilot Licence and an Airbus A320 type rating.

IndiGo's Flight Operations page names its cadet partners as Skyborne Airline Academy, Flight Training Adelaide, INSIGHT AVIATION, Chimes Aviation Academy, Garuda Aviation and Marigold. It also publishes separate criteria for type-rated and non-type-rated A320 pilots, from Junior First Officer to Captain, covering age limits, DGCA licences, medicals and flying hours. Check the page for the grade you're applying for. IndiGo doesn't publish what its pilot assessments contain.

Engineering has a similar route: a Cadet AME (Aircraft Maintenance Engineer) Program with partner schools, described on the Engineering page.

What happens after you're selected?

You receive your offer from an official @goindigo.in address, then train for the role. Cabin crew spend about three months in Gurgaon and must clear all the DGCA examinations needed for a flying licence before moving to their base.

IndiGo also asks selected candidates to be open to relocation, since it hires "basis the availability and requirement of the company". Training across functions is run by ifly, IndiGo's training department.

Does IndiGo have an online assessment?

IndiGo doesn't publish an online test for any role on its careers pages. The "assessment" it describes for cabin crew is an in-person selection day, and it doesn't say what the rounds contain.

If a job listing or invitation mentions an online test, use the details it gives you. Treat question counts, sections and cut-offs you read on prep sites as unconfirmed.

How long does the IndiGo hiring process take?

IndiGo doesn't publish a timeline from application to offer. It says only that the cabin crew assessment day can run a full day and that cabin crew training lasts about three months after selection.

What does IndiGo look for in candidates?

IndiGo describes its culture as "I am the I in IndiGo": ownership, integrity and accountability, and trust, loyalty and commitment to the organisation. Its Life at IndiGo page says "I" stands for integrity and an individual personality aligned with the company's reputation.

By department, IndiGo says:

  • Cabin crew: passenger safety and security is "the prime responsibility"; crew should handle tough situations "with poise and grace"; IndiGo is "more interested in what you can bring" than in previous cabin crew experience.
  • Airport operations: shift work covering passenger queries, security, ramp duties and on-time departures, done by "warm, optimistic, and ever so helpful people".
  • Engineering: engineers who keep aircraft airworthy and support high technical dispatch reliability.

IndiGo also states that all employment decisions are made on merit and qualifications.

IndiGo interview questions and how to answer them

These are questions to prepare for, based on the roles and values IndiGo describes. Structure "tell me about a time" answers with the STAR method: situation, task, action, result.

1. Tell me about yourself.

Keep it to a minute: your education, your customer-facing or relevant work, and why aviation. End with the role you're applying for. Speak clearly; IndiGo lists fluency and clarity in English and Hindi as a cabin crew requirement.

2. Why do you want to join IndiGo?

Tie your answer to something IndiGo says about itself, such as its purpose of "giving wings to the nation by connecting people and aspiration", and to the work of the department you're applying for. Avoid generic answers about travel.

3. Why do you want to be cabin crew?

Lead with safety and service, in that order. IndiGo says the crew's prime responsibility is the safety and security of passengers. Then talk about enjoying working with people.

4. What does "I am the I in IndiGo" mean to you?

Show you've read it. IndiGo links it to ownership, integrity and accountability. Give a short example of owning a task or a mistake and fixing it.

5. Tell me about a time you dealt with an angry customer.

Describe how you stayed calm, listened, solved what you could and escalated what you couldn't. IndiGo wants crew who handle tough situations "with poise and grace".

6. How would you handle a passenger who refuses to follow a safety instruction?

Show you'd stay polite and firm: explain the reason, offer help, and involve the senior crew member if they still refuse. Safety rules are not negotiable, and your answer should make that clear.

7. Tell me about a time you worked under time pressure.

Airport roles are built around on-time departures. Pick an example where you planned, kept others informed and still met the deadline.

8. Tell me about a time you worked in a team with people you didn't know.

Crew often fly with different colleagues. Show how you introduced yourself, agreed who does what and supported others.

9. Are you willing to relocate and work shifts?

Answer honestly. IndiGo asks cabin crew candidates to be open to relocation, and airport teams work shifts. If you have limits, say so early.

10. How do you keep yourself well groomed on a long working day?

IndiGo lists being well groomed and positive body language among its cabin crew criteria. Talk about simple routines and how you prepare for a shift.

11. Tell me about a time you followed a procedure you thought was unnecessary.

Aviation runs on procedures and DGCA rules. Show that you followed it, asked about it through the right channel, and understood why it existed.

12. Describe a time you made a mistake at work.

Own it, describe the fix and what you changed afterwards. This maps directly onto IndiGo's ownership and accountability culture.

13. Do you have any questions for us?

Ask about training, base allocation or what good performance looks like in the first year. Don't lead with pay.

How to prepare for an IndiGo interview

  1. Read the department page for your role on IndiGo's careers site, and check you meet every criterion before you apply.
  2. For cabin crew, prepare the documents and resume details IndiGo lists, including your Application ID on the resume.
  3. Plan for a full day at the assessment and follow the stated dress code.
  4. Prepare four or five STAR stories on customer service, safety, teamwork, pressure and ownership.
  5. Practise speaking clearly in English and Hindi, out loud, ideally in a mock interview.
  6. Learn IndiGo's purpose and its 6E culture so you can answer "Why IndiGo?" with specifics.
  7. Check every offer comes from an @goindigo.in address, and never pay any fee.

How to spot a fake IndiGo job offer

IndiGo's caution page says it "does not charge any money for interviews or recruitment". It warns candidates:

  • not to pay any fee for registration, applications, uniforms, training or joining deposits;
  • that selection and offer emails come only from official @goindigo.in addresses;
  • not to accept an offer made after phone interviews only, without a face-to-face meeting;
  • to look out for appointment letters without an authentic signature or with an altered logo.

IndiGo asks you to report fake offers to the email address on that page.

Practising realistic work tasks

Interviews reward prepared stories, and selection days reward how you handle real situations. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with IndiGo and doesn't use IndiGo's assessments or questions.
