Delta Interview Questions and Hiring Process (2026)

The short answer

You apply on Delta’s careers site, complete the online assessment for your role, interview, and if you’re successful receive a conditional job offer followed by pre-employment screening. The steps differ by job: flight attendants take two assessments, record an on-demand interview and attend an Event Day in Atlanta, while airport, reservations and TechOps roles use their own assessments. Prepare STAR stories that show Delta’s values: integrity, resilience, care and servant leadership.

  • Delta’s pages for flight attendant, airport, reservations, TechOps and pilot jobs all mention an online assessment.
  • Delta recommends the STAR method for interview answers.
  • Flight attendant applicants must be at least 21 and can apply once every six months.
  • Delta says it will never ask you to pay during hiring, and official emails come from @delta.com.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs free practice job simulations for job seekers. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with Delta Air Lines and doesn’t use Delta’s assessments or questions.

Delta's hiring process follows the same broad shape across the jobs on its careers pages: you apply on its careers site, complete an online assessment, interview, and receive a conditional job offer followed by pre-employment screening. What changes is the detail. Flight attendants go through two assessments, a recorded interview and an in-person Event Day; pilots have an assessment, a panel interview and a psychologist interview.

Everything below comes from Delta's own careers pages, linked as we go. Where Delta doesn't say something, we say so rather than guess. The interview questions further down are ones to prepare for, built from Delta's values and what its careers pages say each job needs.

What is the Delta application process?

You search and apply for jobs through Delta's careers site, which links to its job search at delta.avature.net. A few rules from Delta's pages:

  • You can apply to more than one job. Delta's airport page says applying to another opportunity won't affect your existing applications, and its corporate page suggests applying only where you meet the qualifications.
  • Flight attendants can apply once every six months, using the same profile each time, and can't change their answers after submitting.
  • Watch for email from @delta.com. Delta says all official recruitment emails come from @delta.com addresses and that it will never ask you to pay money during hiring.
  • Ask for accommodation if you need it. Delta says qualified individuals may request reasonable accommodation during the selection process.

If you have a question about an airport or reservations application, Delta's pages point you to Candidate Care at candidatecare@delta.com.

What is the Delta hiring process by role?

The stages depend on the job family. This is what each of Delta's careers pages says.

Does Delta have an online assessment?

Yes, for many jobs. Delta's careers pages for flight attendants, airport customer service, reservations, TechOps and pilots all mention one. Its airport page says to look out for an email to complete the assessment after you apply, and its reservations page says you may be asked to complete one. Delta doesn't publish what these assessments contain or how they're scored.

What Delta does say, by role:

  • Flight attendants take an "immersive, AI-powered Candidate Assessment" delivered by MakiPeople, then a short values assessment from Fitme. Only candidates who pass the Fitme assessment move on to the recorded interview.
  • Reservations candidates can retake the assessment six months after receiving their first score.
  • TechOps candidates for most Aircraft Support Mechanic and Aircraft Maintenance Technician roles need to pass the Basic Mechanical Aptitude and Reasoning assessment.
  • Pilots take an Aon online assessment that tests personality and skill-based competencies.

If your assessment shows you customer situations and asks what you would do, it's a situational judgement format; our guide to situational judgement tests explains how that works in general. Do it somewhere quiet, in one sitting, and answer as you actually work.

What is the Delta interview process?

It depends on the job. Delta's pages describe these formats:

  • Flight attendants record an On-Demand Interview through HireVue. Delta says video is required for all interviews and asks candidates to "answer questions clearly, honestly and accurately". Our one-way video interview guide explains how this format works. Successful candidates are then invited to Event Day at Delta's headquarters in Atlanta. Delta doesn't publish what happens on the day. It says trained, experienced flight attendant interviewers work with its inflight leadership and Talent team to select candidates.
  • Airport and reservations candidates hear from the Talent Team about next steps. Delta's tip for both is to practise answering questions using the STAR method.
  • TechOps candidates who complete the qualifying questions and assessments are invited to a centralised hiring event for an interview.
  • Pilots who pass the assessment have a panel interview at Delta's headquarters, with the MMPI-2 personality inventory, followed by a virtual psychologist interview.

Delta says hiring leaders review candidate information and remain responsible for all final hiring decisions, including where AI is used in the flight attendant process.

What happens after the Delta interview?

If you're successful, Delta makes a conditional job offer, and you then complete pre-employment screening. For flight attendants that includes paperwork, a background check and a drug screening, then 7 weeks of training in Atlanta. Pilots complete pre-employment screenings, a two-week Delta Indoctrination and FAA-approved training.

If you're not selected, Delta says it can't give individual feedback to every flight attendant candidate because of application volume, and that you can reapply six months after disqualification once a new job requisition number is posted.

What does Delta look for?

Delta's careers overview says its culture is rooted in its values: integrity, resilience, care and servant leadership. Its corporate careers page lists teamwork alongside them. A Delta recruiter quoted on the corporate page suggests researching Delta's culture and community involvement for "the 'Why Delta' question that will inevitably come up in an interview", and reading Delta's "Rules of the Road".

Common Delta interview questions

Delta doesn't publish its interview questions. These are the ones to prepare for, based on Delta's values and its careers pages. Delta itself recommends the STAR method (situation, task, action, result); our STAR method guide shows how to use it.

1. Why Delta?

Delta's own recruiter says this question will come up. Research Delta's culture, community involvement and "Rules of the Road", then link one specific thing to your own reasons.

2. Why do you want this role?

Show you understand the job. Airport shifts run from early morning to overnight; reservations specialists help customers by phone and chat; flight attendants work from one of Delta's bases, with options depending on operational need. Say why that work suits you.

3. Tell me about a time you gave a customer exceptional care.

Care is one of Delta's values. Choose an example where you noticed what someone needed and acted on it. A reservations specialist quoted by Delta says "It's the first few seconds of interacting with the customer that sets the stage", so include how you started the conversation.

4. Tell me about a time you calmed down an upset customer.

Pick a story where you listened, stayed calm and solved the problem, or explained clearly what you couldn't do and what you could. Finish with the result.

5. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when it was hard.

Integrity is a Delta value, and the veterans section of its careers page names honesty and integrity. Pick an honest example, such as owning a mistake or following a rule when a shortcut was easier.

6. Describe a time you kept going through a setback.

Resilience is a Delta value. Choose a delay, a change of plan or a tough shift, and show what you did to keep things moving.

7. Tell me about a time you put your team first.

Servant leadership means helping the people around you succeed. Describe covering for a colleague, training a new starter or giving credit to someone else.

8. How do you follow safety rules when you're under time pressure?

Ramp, cargo, TechOps and inflight roles all involve safety. Give an example where you followed procedure even when it slowed you down, and say why.

9. How flexible is your schedule?

Delta's airport shifts run from early morning to overnight, and TechOps shifts are bid by seniority. Know which hours you can work and be honest about them.

10. For flight attendants: why do you want to be a flight attendant?

Connect your answer to care for customers and safety, and to working with a crew. In the recorded interview, keep answers clear and to the point, as Delta asks.

11. For TechOps: tell me about a mechanical problem you diagnosed.

Walk through how you found the cause, what you checked and how you confirmed the fix. Delta's TechOps employees also advise asking questions, so mention when you asked for help.

12. For pilots: tell me about a time you made a decision under pressure.

Delta's pilot page describes a panel interview but not its questions. Prepare STAR stories on decision-making, crew communication and handling a difficult situation, and bring the documents Pilot Selection emails you about.

13. Do you have any questions for us?

Have two ready, for example what training looks like, how schedules work for new hires, and what the best people in the role do well.

How to prepare for a Delta interview

  1. Read the careers page for your job family on delta.com, since each one describes a different process.
  2. Complete the assessment promptly when the email arrives, somewhere quiet and in one sitting.
  3. Prepare five STAR stories, one for each value (integrity, resilience, care, servant leadership) and one on teamwork.
  4. Research Delta's culture and community work for "Why Delta", as Delta's recruiter suggests.
  5. For a recorded interview, test your camera and sound and practise answering to the screen.
  6. Practise out loud, ideally in a mock interview.

Practising realistic work tasks

Interviews reward prepared stories. Customer and operational work rewards judgement, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs free practice job simulations for job seekers. It isn't affiliated with Delta Air Lines and doesn't use Delta's assessments or questions.
