HCLTech interviews in two rounds after it shortlists your application: a business or technical interview, then an HR interview. HCLTech says the technical questions can span disciplines and include out-of-the-box queries, puzzles and problems.
The process below comes from HCLTech's careers site, linked as we go. HCLTech is the name HCL Technologies Limited uses on its careers site. Where HCLTech doesn't say something, we say so. The interview questions are ones to prepare for; HCLTech doesn't publish its questions.

What is the HCLTech hiring process?
You apply online with your resume, HCLTech shortlists applications that match its requirements, you take a business or technical interview and an HR interview, and you get an offer if the outcome is positive. HCLTech sets out these five steps on its careers site.
Applying
- Search HCLTech's job postings for roles that match your skills and interests.
- Submit your resume with complete credentials. HCLTech shortlists against the requirements of the role, so make sure your skills, certifications and dates are all there.
- Pick your path. HCLTech's Find Your Best Path page splits careers into experienced professionals, college graduates and high school graduates, with separate pages for each country.
Shortlisting
HCLTech's team reviews your application and contacts you for further details if your credentials match its requirements. HCLTech doesn't say how long this takes.

What is the HCLTech online assessment?
HCLTech's careers site doesn't describe an online assessment for graduate or experienced roles. Prep sites describe aptitude, reasoning, English and coding tests for campus drives, but HCLTech's readable pages don't confirm them, so check the instructions for your drive.
For TechBee, HCLTech's early career programme in India for students who've finished school, the TechBee FAQ lists the selection steps:
| TechBee stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Online Career Aptitude Test | All candidates are invited to take it |
| Versant test | For candidates who clear the aptitude test |
| Interview discussion | After the Versant test |
| Letter of Interest or offer letter | Issued by HCLTech after the interview |
HCLTech doesn't publish the sections, timing or pass marks for either test. To prepare:
- Practise timed aptitude questions in numerical, logical and verbal reasoning.
- Read the instructions in your Versant test invitation before you start, so the format isn't a surprise.
- Sit any online test somewhere quiet with a stable connection.
What is the HCLTech interview process?
HCLTech's careers site lists two interviews: a business or technical interview, then an HR interview. It doesn't say how many sittings each takes or how long they last, so ask the recruiter who shortlists you.
The business or technical interview
HCLTech calls this "a golden opportunity to highlight your skills". It says questions span disciplines and may include out-of-the-box queries, puzzles and problems.
That means you should prepare for two kinds of question:
- Questions on your skills and experience: the technology, tools and projects on your resume, explained in depth.
- Problems you haven't seen before: a puzzle or a technical problem where the interviewer wants to hear how you think. Talk through your reasoning, try a simple approach first and check your answer.
The HR interview
HCLTech says it wants "to understand your goals, skills, strengths, interest and more". It also says you can quiz the recruiter about anything you want to know about the position or HCLTech. Come with real questions; it's part of the round.
What happens after the HCLTech interview?
If the outcome is positive, HCLTech presents an offer that includes a compensation structure and official information related to employment at HCLTech. HCLTech doesn't publish how long the decision takes.
HCLTech's careers site has a "Be Vigilant" section on how to identify genuine HCLTech job offers and protect yourself from fraudsters seeking your information. If an offer reaches you outside HCLTech's own careers site and recruiters, check it against that guidance before you reply or share any documents.
Common HCLTech interview questions and how to answer them
These are questions to prepare for in both rounds. HCLTech's careers site describes an idea-first attitude, a startup mindset, a culture that puts people first, and learning opportunities at all levels. It asks candidates to "find your spark". Several answers below draw on that.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Give a one-minute version: your degree or current role, the skills you're strongest in, one result you're proud of, and why HCLTech. End on the role you applied for.
2. Walk me through your resume.
HCLTech shortlists on your credentials, so expect the interviewer to go through them. Be ready to explain every skill, tool and certification you list, with an example of where you used it. For your main project, cover the problem, your part, the technology and the result, and expect follow-up questions on any tool you name.
3. Solve this puzzle.
HCLTech says its interviews may include puzzles and out-of-the-box queries. Think aloud, state your assumptions, try a small case first and check your answer. A clear method with a small slip beats a silent guess.
4. Explain a concept from your core subjects.
HCLTech says its interview questions span disciplines, so revise object-oriented programming, databases, operating systems and networks for technical roles, beyond your own specialism. Explain one idea simply with an example, and say so if you don't know something.
5. Why do you want to join HCLTech?
Be specific: a service line, an industry HCLTech works in or a programme you'd join. Link it to what HCLTech says about itself, for example its idea-first attitude and the learning opportunities it offers.
6. Tell me about an idea you came up with and what happened to it.
HCLTech says its accomplishments trace back to "an idea's single spark". Describe an idea you had, how you tested or pitched it and the result, even if it was small.
7. Tell me about a time you worked in a team under pressure.
Use the STAR method. Show what you did, how you supported others and what you'd do differently. Supporting the people around you fits HCLTech's description of a culture that puts its people first.
8. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
HCLTech's HR interview asks about your strengths. Pick strengths with evidence, and a real weakness with what you're doing about it.
9. Where do you want your career to go?
HCLTech says it wants to understand your goals. Talk about the skills you want to build and the work you'd like to lead, and show you've thought about how HCLTech fits.
10. What do you want to know about the role or HCLTech?
HCLTech invites you to quiz the recruiter. Ask about the team, the projects new joiners work on, the training and how performance is reviewed in the first year.
How to prepare for the HCLTech interview
- Complete your resume with every credential, skill and date. HCLTech shortlists on it.
- Revise the technology on your resume in depth, and the basics of your core subjects.
- Practise puzzles and logic problems out loud, explaining your reasoning as you go.
- Rehearse your project explanation in two minutes.
- Prepare four or five STAR stories on teamwork, an idea, a mistake and learning something fast. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on, and a mock interview helps you hear how you sound.
- Write down your questions for the recruiter about the role and HCLTech.
- For TechBee, practise timed aptitude questions and read the Versant test instructions when you get them.
Practising realistic work tasks
The technical interview rewards people who can work through problems they haven't seen before, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with HCLTech and doesn't use HCLTech's tests or questions.
