DaVita's hiring process has three steps: apply, interview and decide. Some roles include an online assessment, clinical candidates may visit a clinic for a job preview, and offers depend on a drug screen and background check. DaVita's interviews generally include some behavioural questions, alongside questions about your experience, your skills and why you want to work at DaVita.
Everything below comes from DaVita's How we hire and culture pages. Where DaVita doesn't say something, we say so.
The DaVita hiring process at a glance
| Step | What happens | What DaVita says about timing |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Apply | Apply online, ideally by uploading your resume. Some roles include an online assessment. | You get a confirmation email once you submit |
| 2. Interview | A recruiter reviews your application and, if you're selected, contacts you to talk about your interest and background, then schedules an interview with the hiring manager or team. Virtual or in person; clinical roles may include a clinic visit. | Not published |
| 3. Decide | The hiring team decides after your final interview and you're told either way. | DaVita follows up "as quickly as possible" |
| 4. Offer and onboarding | The offer depends on a drug screen and background check. DaVita's Welcome Wagon team handles onboarding. | Not published |
What is the DaVita hiring process?
You apply online, a recruiter reviews your application, you interview if selected, and the hiring team makes a decision. If you're chosen, the hiring manager tells your recruiter and the job offer process begins. DaVita says you'll be notified "either way" whether you've been selected.

How do you apply to DaVita?
Choose Apply Now on a job, sign in or create an account, and follow the prompts. DaVita's tips:
- Upload your resume. DaVita says this is the easiest way to apply, because most of the form fills in automatically.
- Answer the extra question well. DaVita suggests using the question "What qualifications did we not ask you about that you wish we had in considering you for this role?" to stand out.
- Name your referrer if a DaVita teammate referred you, and tell your recruiter.
- Watch for the confirmation email from davita@myworkday.
If you need an accommodation to apply, email ApplicantAccommodations@davita.com. DaVita says that address can't answer status questions.
Does DaVita have an online assessment?
Some roles do. DaVita says some roles include an online assessment as part of the application, but it doesn't publish which roles, what the assessment contains, how long it takes or how it's scored.
If your assessment presents workplace scenarios and asks what you'd do, it's a situational judgement format. Our guide to situational judgement tests explains how those work in general. Do it somewhere quiet, read every option and answer as you would actually work.
What is the DaVita interview process?
A recruiter reviews your application and, if you're selected, first contacts you to talk about your interest in the job and your background. If that goes well, the recruiter schedules an interview with the hiring manager or other members of the team. The interview is virtual or in person, depending on the job. For clinical roles, you may be asked to visit a local clinic for a job preview, which lets you see the work before you decide. DaVita doesn't publish how many interviews there are.
DaVita's interview advice:
- Review the job description and prepare examples that show how you meet the qualifications.
- Learn DaVita's mission and values.
- Prepare stories "that illustrate times when you have successfully solved problems or performed memorably". Interviewers ask about your past behaviour at work.
- Remember you're interviewing DaVita too. Have questions ready.
- For virtual interviews, join a few minutes early to check sound and video, use good lighting, cut distractions and look at the camera. If your connection fails, email your recruiter.
What happens after the DaVita interview?
After your final interview, the hiring team decides, and DaVita says it will follow up "as quickly as possible". You can also check your account or contact your recruiter.
If you get an offer, it's contingent on DaVita's pre-employment drug screen and background check. Your hospital or work location may require extra credentialing or background checks. DaVita's onboarding team, Welcome Wagon, then coordinates your pre-hire and onboarding tasks.
DaVita will never ask for payment or personal financial information during hiring. Treat any such request as fraud.
Common DaVita interview questions and how to answer them
DaVita hasn't published a question list. The questions below are ones to prepare for, based on what DaVita says it looks for: its mission, "To be the Provider, Partner and Employer of Choice", its seven Core Values and stories about solving problems. Answer the behavioural ones with the STAR method.
| Core Value | A story to have ready |
|---|---|
| Service Excellence | Going beyond what a patient or customer expected |
| Integrity | Doing the right thing when it was harder |
| Team | Helping a colleague when you were busy |
| Continuous Improvement | Making a process work better |
| Accountability | Owning a mistake and fixing it |
| Fulfillment | Work that felt meaningful to you |
| Fun | Keeping a team's spirits up on a hard day |
1. Why do you want to work at DaVita?
Link your answer to DaVita's mission and its culture, which it calls The DaVita Way, and to the role. For clinical roles, mention what you saw or want to learn about caring for dialysis patients. If you've had the clinic preview, use something specific from it.
2. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it to two minutes: your relevant experience, why you're applying for this role and what you'd bring. Finish on why DaVita.
3. Tell me about a time you gave excellent service to a patient or customer.
This is Service Excellence. Describe what the person needed, what you did beyond the minimum and how they responded.
4. Tell me about a time you made a mistake at work.
Accountability and Integrity both apply. Choose a real mistake, say how you reported or owned it, how you fixed it and what you changed so it wouldn't happen again. In healthcare, show that you'd always speak up quickly.
5. Tell me about a time you solved a difficult problem.
DaVita tells candidates to prepare exactly this kind of story. Describe the problem, the options you considered, what you did and the result.
6. Tell me about a time you helped a teammate.
DaVita calls its employees teammates and lists Team as a Core Value. Show what you noticed, how you stepped in and what it meant for the team or patients.
7. Tell me about a time you improved how something was done.
This is Continuous Improvement. A small change counts, such as a better checklist or a clearer handover, as long as you can show the result.
8. How would you calm a patient who is anxious or upset?
For patient care roles, show empathy and clear communication: listen, acknowledge how they feel, explain what will happen in plain words and involve the nurse when needed. In-center patient care technicians work under an RN's supervision, so know when to escalate.
9. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when no one was watching.
This is Integrity. Choose an example where following a rule or procedure cost you time or effort, and explain why you did it anyway.
10. What does meaningful work look like to you?
Fulfillment is one of DaVita's Core Values. Talk about a moment at work, or while caring for someone, when you saw the difference you made.
11. How do you keep a team positive on a hard day?
Fun is a Core Value too. Give a short, genuine example of how you lifted a team's mood without losing focus on the work.
12. What qualifications do you have that we haven't asked about?
DaVita highlights this question in its application tips, so it may come up in conversation. Prepare one or two strengths the job description doesn't mention but that would help you in the role.
13. What questions do you have for us?
DaVita reminds candidates that they're interviewing the company too. Ask about training, the team, schedules and how success in the role is measured.
How to prepare for a DaVita interview
- Read the job description and match an example to each qualification.
- Learn the mission and the seven Core Values, and prepare a STAR story for at least four of them.
- Prepare problem-solving stories, as DaVita advises.
- Be ready for a clinic visit if you're applying for a clinical role, because DaVita may ask you to make one. If it does, use it to ask questions.
- Test your setup if the interview is virtual.
- Practise out loud, ideally in a mock interview. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
- Be ready for the drug screen and background check that come with an offer.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories. Assessments reward judgement, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with DaVita and doesn't use DaVita's assessments or questions.
