Cintas doesn't publish its interview questions, but its postings ask for customer service, selling to existing customers, safe driving and what it calls "service spirit," so prepare examples of each. Cintas, which rents uniforms and supplies facility services, first aid and safety products and fire protection, publishes its job requirements in detail but not its number of interview rounds or how long hiring takes.
Everything below comes from Cintas's own careers site and job postings, linked as we go. Where Cintas doesn't say something, we say so rather than guess.

What is the hiring process at Cintas?
You find a role, apply online, interview and, for driving roles, meet DOT requirements before your first day. Cintas's careers site says it uses "merit-based hiring" and that it promotes from within. It doesn't describe its interview stages.
The main entry-level and early-career routes are:
- Route Service Representative (Rental): runs an established route, delivering and picking up uniforms, shop towels, cleaning products and other facility service items, and grows those accounts.
- Service Sales Representative: in the Fire, Rental, or First Aid and Safety divisions, serving and selling to customers on a route.
- Production and manufacturing, maintenance and supply chain: plant and warehouse roles.
- Management Trainee: a 15-month rotational programme for recent graduates.
- Internships: 10 to 12 weeks for undergraduates, across sales, service and production.

What are the requirements for a Cintas route job?
The Route Service Representative posting we read on 27 October 2026 asked for:
- a high school diploma, GED or military service;
- an active driver's licence;
- age 21 or over;
- a DOT medical certification and documentation of previous employment before your first day, because the role drives a regulated vehicle over 10,000 lbs;
- the ability to meet the physical requirements of a "physical, fast-paced, indoor/outdoor" job.
The First Aid and Safety Service Sales Representative posting asked for a valid driver's licence and a high school diploma or GED, with sales and customer service experience preferred. Cintas says it maintains a drug-free workplace.
Does Cintas have an assessment?
Cintas doesn't publish an assessment for its route, sales or production roles, and the postings we read didn't mention one. If you're asked to complete a questionnaire, answer as you actually work. If it shows you workplace scenarios and asks what you would do, it's a situational judgement format; our guide to situational judgement tests explains how that works in general.
What is the Cintas interview process?
Cintas doesn't publish an interview format, length or number of rounds. When you're contacted, ask who you'll meet, how many conversations to expect and whether any part happens on the route or in the plant.
What Cintas does publish is what it wants. The Route Service Representative posting asks for a strong customer service orientation, self-motivation, teamwork and "a positive attitude, along with ambition, organization and service spirit." It calls the role "the face of Cintas to our customers." The careers site talks about high standards, close collaboration and "refusing to accept mediocrity." Prepare examples for each.
How long does the Cintas hiring process take?
Cintas doesn't publish a timeline. Its postings say they stay open for at least five days, and driving roles need a DOT medical certification before you start, so allow time for that. If you haven't heard back within a week or so of an interview, a short, polite follow-up is reasonable.
What happens after you're hired at Cintas?
You train. Route Service Representatives get a 10-week training programme, according to the posting we read, and Cintas's benefits page says "We take training seriously at Cintas." For Rental Service Sales Representatives, Cintas's careers site promises "four-day work weeks, no nights or weekends, no surprise shifts."
Cintas calls its employees partners, says it promotes from within and says many of its top executives and 75% of its general managers started as Management Trainees.
What questions does Cintas ask in interviews?
Cintas doesn't publish its interview questions. The questions below follow from its postings, its careers site and the standard questions most service and sales interviews include. For "tell me about a time" questions, use the STAR method: situation, task, action, result.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it to about a minute: what you do now, one relevant strength and why you're applying. For route roles, lead with customer-facing, driving or sales experience.
2. Why do you want to work at Cintas?
Be specific. Say what appeals about the role (a route of your own, the four-day week in Rental, the training programme) and about Cintas's promise to promote from within. Know its four business lines: workwear, facility services, first aid and safety, and fire protection.
3. Tell me about a time you went beyond what a customer expected.
The First Aid and Safety posting asks reps to serve customers "in a manner which exceeds their expectations." Pick an example where you noticed a need, acted on it and kept the customer.
4. How would you build a relationship with a customer you see every week?
Route reps build rapport with key decision makers on an established route. Talk about being reliable, learning what matters to each customer, following up on problems and checking in before they have to call you.
5. Tell me about a time you sold something to an existing customer.
Route roles include upselling, cross-selling and renewing service agreements. Show that the sale solved a real problem for the customer. If you haven't sold before, use an example of persuading someone with a clear reason.
6. How would you handle a customer who is unhappy with their service?
Listen, take ownership, fix what you can on the spot and follow up. The posting asks reps to solve customer concerns and maintain quality standards.
7. How do you stay safe and compliant when you're driving all day?
Route reps must comply with driving and vehicle regulations and meet DOT requirements. Talk about pre-trip checks, following the rules even when you're behind schedule and how you plan your day to avoid rushing.
8. How do you stay organised with a full route?
Cintas lists organisation alongside ambition and service spirit. Describe how you plan stops, track inventory and paperwork, and keep promises to each customer.
9. Tell me about a time you worked hard in a physical job.
The route role is "physical, fast-paced, indoor/outdoor." Give an example that shows stamina and care, and say how you kept quality up when you were tired.
10. Tell me about a time you set yourself a goal and hit it.
Cintas's careers site leads with ambition and high standards. A sales target, a sports goal or a promotion all work; focus on what you did to get there.
11. How do you work with a team when you're on your own most of the day?
The Route Service Representative posting asks for self-motivation and teamwork. Talk about clear communication, passing on customer issues quickly and helping cover when someone's out.
12. (Management Trainee) Tell me about a time you led a group.
Postings prefer leadership roles on campus or in extracurricular activities. Describe a group you led, a problem it faced and what you did, then link it to the rotations through sales, production and service management.
13. (Management Trainee) Are you willing to relocate?
The posting asks for willingness to relocate regionally during or at the end of the programme. Answer honestly and specifically, including any places you couldn't move to.
For more practice, our list of behavioural interview questions and our situational interview questions give you a wider bank to rehearse.
How to prepare for a Cintas interview
- Read the posting for your division, and have an example for each duty and requirement it lists.
- Check the driving requirements if you're applying for a route or Management Trainee role: age, licence and DOT medical.
- Learn the business lines and what the division you're applying to sells.
- Prepare four or five STAR stories about customers, selling, reliability and working hard in a physical job.
- Have your previous employment details ready, since driving roles need documentation of it before you start.
- Rehearse out loud, ideally in a mock interview with someone who will give you honest feedback.
- Bring two or three questions about the route, the training programme and how partners move up.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories. Route and sales jobs reward judgement with customers, and that improves with practice. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for roles such as customer service and business development, with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn't affiliated with Cintas and doesn't use its questions or assessments.
