Sutherland Interview Questions and Hiring Process

The short answer

You apply for a specific role on Sutherland’s careers site, then go through the screening, any tests and the interviews the recruiter sets for that role. Sutherland doesn’t publish its interview rounds or what its online assessments contain, so prepare for role questions and for behavioural questions built on the values its CEO names: agility, outside-the-box thinking, integrity and flawless execution.

  • Sutherland’s careers site lists jobs by region and has a separate section for work-at-home roles.
  • Work-at-home roles ask for at least 25 Mbps internet and a mobile phone; Sutherland supplies the computer and headset.
  • Sutherland lists paid training for its work-at-home roles.
  • Sutherland doesn’t publish the content, length or pass mark of any online assessment.

Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn’t affiliated with Sutherland and doesn’t use Sutherland’s tests or questions.

Sutherland's hiring process starts with an application for a specific role on its careers site, jobs.sutherlandglobal.com. After that come the screening, any tests and the interviews the recruiter sets for that role. Sutherland doesn't publish how many interview rounds there are, what its online assessments contain or how long the process takes, so this guide sticks to what Sutherland does say and helps you prepare for the questions you're likely to face.

Everything below comes from Sutherland's own pages, linked as we go. Where Sutherland doesn't say something, we say so. The interview questions are ones to prepare for; Sutherland doesn't publish its questions.

What is the Sutherland hiring process?

You apply for a role, Sutherland screens your application, you may take an assessment, and you interview with its recruiting and hiring teams. Sutherland's careers site lists jobs by region and country, a section for work-at-home roles and a referral portal, but it doesn't describe the selection steps.

Sutherland describes itself as offering operational excellence-led AI solutions. On its About page it says it runs mission-critical processes for large enterprises, in industries such as banking, healthcare, insurance, retail, communications, high tech and travel. Read the job description to see which client area your role serves and, for customer support roles, which channel (voice, chat or email) you'd work in.

What is the Sutherland interview process?

Sutherland doesn't publish its interview rounds, their order or their length, and they vary by role and country. Ask your recruiter how many conversations to expect, who they're with and whether there's a test.

Plan for two kinds of question in any Sutherland interview:

  • Role skills. For customer service and support roles, expect questions on handling customers, solving problems and communicating clearly. For technical or analytics roles, expect questions on the tools and methods in the job description.
  • Behaviour and values. Sutherland's chair and CEO names its core values as "remaining agile, outside-the-box thinking, uncompromising integrity, and flawless execution". Those four ideas are a good guide to the stories to prepare.

Does Sutherland have an online assessment?

Sutherland doesn't publish whether a role includes an online assessment, or what one contains. Treat any question counts, test names or pass marks you read elsewhere as unconfirmed. If your recruiter sends a test, ask what it covers and how long it takes.

If the test shows you customer scenarios and asks what you would do, it's a situational judgement format. Our guide to situational judgement tests explains how that format works. If it's a personality or reasoning test, our guide to psychometric assessments covers those. For any test:

  • Take it somewhere quiet, with a stable connection.
  • Read every option before you choose.
  • Answer as you actually work. Sutherland publishes no answer key.

What does Sutherland need for work-at-home roles?

Sutherland's work-at-home page lists what you need to get started:

RequirementWhat Sutherland says
InternetAt least 25 Mbps
ComputerA laptop or desktop computer from Sutherland
HeadsetA headset from Sutherland
PhoneA mobile phone for communications

The same page lists paid training and career development among the benefits. It doesn't describe a separate hiring process for home-based roles, so expect the same application and interview steps. Test your internet speed before you apply and have a quiet place ready for interviews and calls.

What happens after the Sutherland interview?

Sutherland doesn't publish how long a decision takes or how it notifies candidates. Ask your recruiter when to expect an answer, and keep an eye on the email address you applied with. Sutherland doesn't publish a recruitment fraud notice, so apply only through its careers site and be wary of anyone who asks you for money to secure a job.

Common Sutherland interview questions and how to answer them

Build your answers around the four values Sutherland's CEO names and, for support roles, around customer work. Use the STAR method for the "tell me about a time" questions.

1. Tell me about yourself.

Give a one-minute summary: your studies or current role, the skills the job description asks for that you have, and one result. End with why this Sutherland role.

2. Why Sutherland?

Connect the role to Sutherland's work running customer and business operations for large companies. Name the industry or client area the job sits in and what you'd like to learn there.

3. Tell me about a time you had to adapt quickly.

This is remaining agile. Describe a change in process, tools or priorities, how you adjusted and what you delivered.

4. Tell me about a time you solved a problem in a new way.

This is outside-the-box thinking. Describe the problem, the usual approach, what you did differently and the result.

5. Tell me about a time you did the right thing when nobody was checking.

This is uncompromising integrity. Pick an example of following a rule, protecting customer data or owning a mistake.

6. How do you make sure your work is accurate?

This is flawless execution. Explain how you check your own work, such as re-reading notes, confirming details with the customer or using a checklist, and give an example of an error you caught.

7. How would you handle an angry customer?

Sutherland runs customer processes for its clients, so tie this to flawless execution: listen without interrupting, acknowledge the problem, fix it or escalate it, and confirm it's resolved before you close the contact. Give a real example if you have one.

8. A customer asks for something you can't do. What do you say?

This tests uncompromising integrity. Explain the reason simply, offer what you can do instead and stay polite. Show that you follow the client's policy rather than bending it to end the call.

9. How would you troubleshoot a customer's technical problem over the phone?

For support roles, walk through it: confirm the problem, ask questions to narrow it down, try the simplest fix first, check it worked and record what you did. If the usual fix fails, show some outside-the-box thinking in how you'd find another route before escalating.

10. How do you stay calm when calls or chats keep coming?

Describe what keeps you focused: short notes, taking one customer at a time, and resetting after a difficult contact. For work-at-home roles, mention the quiet space and stable connection (Sutherland asks for at least 25 Mbps) that let you keep going without interruptions.

11. Are you comfortable with shifts, including nights or weekends?

This is remaining agile, within limits. Show you can adjust, but check the shift in the job description and only commit to what you can do.

12. Do you have any questions for us?

Ask what training covers (Sutherland lists paid training for work-at-home roles), which client and channel (voice, chat or email) you'd support, or how the team measures flawless execution in your role.

How to prepare for the Sutherland interview

  1. Read the job description line by line and prepare one example for each main requirement.
  2. Prepare STAR stories for each of the four values: agility, new ideas, integrity and accuracy. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
  3. Practise customer scenarios out loud, especially an angry customer and a request you can't meet.
  4. Check your setup for work-at-home roles: at least 25 Mbps internet and a quiet space.
  5. Ask your recruiter about rounds and tests, since Sutherland doesn't publish them.
  6. Do a mock interview and practise speaking clearly and at a steady pace.
  7. Never pay to get a job. Apply only through Sutherland's careers site.
