Raytheon is one of RTX's three businesses, alongside Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney, so Raytheon jobs are posted and filled through the RTX careers site. You apply online in Workday, a recruiter gets in touch if they're interested, and interviews follow.
The process details below come from RTX's careers site and its application FAQ, linked as we go. RTX publishes little about its interviews, so where it doesn't say something, we say so. The interview questions are ones to prepare for, not a list RTX has published.

How do you apply for a job at Raytheon?
You apply on careers.rtx.com. When you select "Apply" on a posting, you're sent to Workday, where you sign in with an existing candidate profile or create an account, then complete every required field.
- All three RTX businesses post roles on the same careers site, so filter by business unit to find Raytheon jobs.
- Students and graduates have a separate Campus Programs section.
- Veterans and transitioning service members have a Military and Veterans section.
- If you need an accommodation to apply, RTX links a request page from its careers site.
- If you're not ready to apply, you can join RTX's talent community to hear about roles.
Read the posting closely before you apply. Check whether it asks for a security clearance, US citizenship or on-site work. RTX's application FAQ doesn't set a general rule on these.
What happens after you apply to Raytheon?
Your application appears in Workday under "My Applications", and the "My Application Status" column updates as you move through the selection process. RTX says that if a recruiter is interested, they will reach out to you directly.
RTX doesn't publish how long a review takes. If you have trouble with your candidate account, its FAQ gives a support inbox: RTXRecruiting@RTX.com.
What is the Raytheon interview process?
RTX doesn't publish a standard interview process for Raytheon, and the steps depend on the role and team. Your recruiter is the best source for who you'll meet and how many rounds to expect.
Candidate reports on review sites describe a phone screen first, followed by interviews with the hiring team that mix behavioural questions with questions about past projects. Treat those as reported, not as RTX policy.
What RTX does say about interviews:
- Recruiters contact you directly after you've applied.
- Emails come only from RTX domains: addresses ending in rtx.com, raytheon.com, prattwhitney.com or collins.com, or through Workday for roles you've applied to.
- RTX doesn't use Google Hangouts, Skype or Facebook Live to interview candidates or make job offers.
- RTX will never ask for sensitive personal or financial information through LinkedIn, Teams or other social media and collaboration channels.
If an "interview" breaks any of those rules, treat it as a likely scam. RTX's FAQ points to usa.gov for help spotting scams.
Does Raytheon have an assessment?
RTX doesn't publish an online assessment or test for Raytheon roles on the careers pages we checked. If your recruiter sends you one, follow the instructions in that email, set aside uninterrupted time and ask what it covers. Treat test details you read on prep sites as unconfirmed.
What happens at the Raytheon offer stage?
RTX doesn't describe its offer process publicly. It does list E-Verify participation and right-to-work notices on its careers site, so expect to confirm your eligibility to work after you accept. If your role needs a security clearance, ask your recruiter what that means for your start date.
Common Raytheon interview questions and how to answer them
RTX describes itself as "a company of innovators committed to building a safer, more connected world", and invites applicants to work on aviation, defence systems and space. Raytheon's work includes missiles, radar, sensors and communication systems. Tie your answers to that work and to the specific job description.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it to a minute or two: what you do now, how you got there, and why this Raytheon role is the next step. End on the part of the job description that matches your experience.
2. Why Raytheon?
Candidates report being asked what they know about Raytheon. Name the product area or programme your team works on, if the posting says, and explain why that work interests you. "A safer, more connected world" is RTX's own framing; connect it to something specific you've built or studied.
3. Walk me through a project on your resume.
Pick the project closest to the role. Explain the problem, your part in it, the technical choices you made and the result. Interviewers in engineering teams will ask follow-up questions, so choose one you can discuss in depth.
4. Tell me about a difficult technical problem you solved.
Use the STAR method: situation, task, action, result. Spend most of your time on the action: how you narrowed the problem down, what you tested and why.
5. Tell me about a time you worked with people from other disciplines.
Large engineering projects usually involve several disciplines. Show that you understood what the other group needed, communicated clearly and delivered your part on time.
6. Describe a time you had to follow a strict process or requirement.
Defence work runs on requirements and documentation. Give an example where you followed a standard carefully, or raised a concern through the right channel instead of working around it.
7. Tell me about a mistake you made and what you did about it.
Choose a real mistake, explain how you found it, how you fixed it and what you changed afterwards. Owning the error matters more than the size of it. In requirements-driven defence work, say how you reported it through the right channel, as in question 6.
8. How do you prioritise when you have competing deadlines?
Explain how you decide what matters most, how you keep your manager informed and what you do when something has to slip. A short example makes the answer credible, ideally one that maps to the responsibilities listed in the Raytheon posting you applied for.
9. Tell me about a time you learned a new tool or technology quickly.
Say what you had to learn, how you went about it and how you used it. Pick a tool or method relevant to the posting where you can.
10. How would you explain a complex technical topic to someone outside your field?
Raytheon's work on missiles, radar, sensors and communication systems is technical, and RTX spans three businesses (Raytheon, Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney), so you'll often explain your work to people outside your discipline. Show you can lead with the point, use plain words and check the other person understood.
11. Tell me about a time you handled sensitive or confidential information.
Describe how you protected it: who you shared it with, how you stored it and what you did when you weren't sure. Don't share anything confidential from a past employer in your answer.
12. Where do you want to be in a few years?
RTX's three businesses cover aerospace, engines and defence, so there's room to grow. Give an honest answer that links your next few years to the skills this role builds.
13. Do you have any questions for us?
Ask about the programme the team supports, what a strong first six months looks like and how the team is organised. Ask about the remaining steps and timeline too, since RTX doesn't publish one.
How to prepare for a Raytheon interview
- Read the posting line by line. Note any clearance, citizenship or on-site requirement, and the technical skills listed.
- Ask your recruiter how many interviews there are, who you'll meet and whether there's a technical exercise.
- Prepare five or six STAR stories that cover technical problem-solving, teamwork, following process, mistakes and learning. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
- Know two projects from your resume inside out, including the trade-offs you made.
- Learn what the Raytheon business does, and, if the posting says, the product area you'd support.
- Do a mock interview with someone who will ask follow-up questions.
- Check every message is genuine. RTX only uses its own email domains and Workday.
Practising realistic work tasks
Raytheon interviewers want to hear how you work through real problems. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with Raytheon or RTX and doesn't use their assessments or questions.
