DHL Hiring Process and Interview Questions (2026)

The short answer

DHL’s hiring process is an online application, a telephone interview, a personal interview (in person or by video) and, for some positions, an assessment centre, followed by an offer and onboarding. DHL says interviews typically last 30 to 60 minutes with someone from the team you’d join and a member of HR. It doesn’t publish an overall timeline, and the steps vary by role, location and business unit.

  • DHL’s interview questions cover three areas: who you are, your past experience, and why you’re looking to move.
  • DHL itself recommends preparing behavioural answers with the STAR method.
  • You can apply for several DHL jobs at once and track each application online.
  • Some student and graduate roles ask you to deliver a task connected to the job.

DHL hires through an online application, a telephone interview, a personal interview and, for some positions, an assessment centre. DHL describes this as an example process that varies by role, location and business area, so the job you apply for may skip or add a step.

Everything below comes from DHL's global careers site, linked as we go. DHL's businesses include DHL Express and DHL Supply Chain, and local hiring can differ. Where DHL doesn't say something, we say so.

What is the hiring process at DHL?

You apply online, DHL checks your skills and qualifications against the role, and you go through one or more interviews before an offer. The details below come from DHL's Working with DHL page and its careers FAQ.

The application

  • Click "apply" on the job, complete the form and attach supporting documents such as your CV. DHL prefers PDFs.
  • Use your LinkedIn profile to fill in the fields where the form allows it.
  • You'll get an automated email confirming DHL received your application. It contains a link to DHL's online tracking system, where you can check your status at any time.
  • You can apply for several jobs at once. DHL says there's no limit, but you should have the skills, experience and genuine interest for every one.

For student and graduate roles, DHL advises tailoring your CV and writing a cover letter for each job.

Frontline roles have their own requirements. Delivery drivers need to be physically fit with a current, valid driver's licence; LGV drivers need a Driver CPC or an LGV/HGV licence. Check the job posting for the full list.

What happens in the DHL telephone interview?

If your application matches the role, someone from DHL calls you. DHL says the aim is to assess your abilities and "gain a better sense of who you are". DHL doesn't publish how long the call lasts. Have the job description in front of you and be ready to explain why you applied.

What happens in the DHL personal interview?

If the call goes well, DHL invites you to a face-to-face interview, or a video call if that isn't possible. DHL's FAQ says interviews typically last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the vacancy, and are with someone from the area of the business you'd work in and a member of the HR team.

For student and graduate roles, DHL says interviews can have several stages: phone, video (live or recorded) and in person. Some roles ask you to deliver a task connected to the job.

Does DHL have an assessment centre or online test?

For some positions, DHL runs an assessment centre. It says to "expect various practical challenges and team exercises", and that you may meet other applicants and senior leaders there. DHL doesn't publish which roles use one, what the exercises are or how they're scored.

DHL's careers pages don't mention an online aptitude test. If your invitation includes one, follow its instructions. Team exercises reward listening and building on other people's ideas as much as your own contributions. If a written exercise gives you workplace scenarios and asks what you'd do, it's a situational judgement format; our guide to situational judgement tests explains how that format works in general.

How long does the DHL hiring process take?

DHL doesn't publish an overall timeline or how long application review takes. Use the tracking link in your confirmation email to check your status. If you're interviewing, ask the recruiter when you can expect to hear back.

What happens after the DHL interview?

For graduate roles, DHL says HR and your future manager review your application and interview results together, and contact you by email, so check your inbox. If you accept an offer, onboarding starts: you sign your contract and fill in some documents, and DHL sends information to prepare you for your first day.

What questions does DHL ask in interviews?

DHL's FAQ says its interview questions cover three areas:

AreaWhat DHL says it wants to know
YouWho you are as an individual, your strengths and weaknesses
Your experiencePast experiences, and what you found most challenging and rewarding
Your situationYour current situation and why you're looking to move

DHL doesn't publish its exact questions. The questions below follow those three areas and DHL's three values: We deliver the difference, We Care and We Grow Together.

1. Tell me about yourself.

DHL starts by wanting to know who you are. Give a short summary of your experience that leads to why this role fits, in under two minutes.

2. What are your strengths?

Name two strengths that the job description asks for, with a short example of each. For frontline roles, back a strength with evidence against the requirements DHL lists, such as being physically fit or technically minded.

3. What is your biggest weakness?

DHL asks about weaknesses directly. Pick a real one that doesn't block the job, and say what you're doing to improve it.

4. What was the most challenging part of your last job?

DHL asks what you found most challenging. Use STAR: the situation, your task, what you did and the result. Focus on what you did, not on what went wrong.

5. What was the most rewarding part of your last job?

This shows what motivates you. Link it to something the DHL role offers, such as working in a team or helping customers.

6. Why are you looking to move?

DHL asks about your current situation. Be honest and positive. Talk about what you want next, not what you dislike about your current employer.

7. Why do you want to work at DHL?

DHL's FAQ tells you to research its values, mission and recent news. Mention one of DHL's values or a recent DHL story and connect it to the job. "We deliver the difference" puts purpose and innovation at the centre.

8. Tell me about a time you helped a colleague or customer.

DHL's "We Care" value covers respect and inclusion. Choose an example where you noticed someone needed help and acted without being asked.

9. Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team under pressure.

DHL's assessment centres include team exercises, so expect teamwork to come up. Describe a busy shift or project, your part in it and how the team got the work done.

10. Tell me about something new you learned at work.

DHL's "We Grow Together" value is about development. Show how quickly you picked up a new process, system or skill.

11. Do you meet the requirements for this role?

DHL lists requirements for frontline roles, such as a valid driver's licence for delivery drivers and a Driver CPC or LGV/HGV licence for LGV drivers. Check the job posting and be ready to confirm each one.

12. Do you have any questions for us?

DHL's FAQ advises having a list of questions ready about the role. Ask about the team, training and what a good first three months looks like.

Our list of behavioural interview questions has more to practise on.

How to prepare for DHL's hiring process

DHL's FAQ gives four tips, and we've added three:

  1. Research DHL. Read its values, mission and recent news.
  2. Practise common questions with the STAR method, as DHL recommends. Our STAR method guide walks through it.
  3. Dress professionally.
  4. Prepare questions to ask about the role.
  5. Have your CV ready as a PDF before you start the application.
  6. Prepare one example for each of DHL's three interview areas: you, your experience and your reasons for moving.
  7. Run a mock interview with someone who will give you honest feedback.

Practising realistic work tasks

Interviews reward prepared stories. Tasks and assessment centre exercises reward judgement, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with DHL and doesn't use DHL's assessments or questions.
