DoorDash's interview process depends on the job. For hourly DashMart kitchen roles, DoorDash's postings describe screening questions, a resume and a recorded, AI-facilitated virtual interview that a person reviews. For corporate roles, the postings point you to your recruiter, and DoorDash doesn't set out one standard loop.
Everything here comes from DoorDash's own job postings, which we read in full on 27 October 2026. Where the postings don't say something, we say so.
The DoorDash hiring process at a glance
| Step | What happens | What DoorDash publishes about it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Application | Apply to a posting on DoorDash's job board. | Some hourly roles accept applications on an ongoing basis |
| 2. Screening | Screening questions and your resume. Some roles use AI tools (Gem for some corporate roles, Fountain for DashMart kitchen roles, Covey for NYC jobs). | People review the results and make the decisions |
| 3. AI virtual interview (some hourly roles) | A recorded, transcribed, AI-facilitated virtual interview. | Reviewed by a person before you progress |
| 4. Interviews | With the hiring team. Some postings mention meeting hiring managers or on-site interviews. | No standard loop or length published |
| 5. Decision | DoorDash's postings don't say how decisions are shared. | No timeline published |
What is the DoorDash application process?
You apply on DoorDash's job board, answer the screening questions and upload your resume. The postings show what DoorDash checks:
- Hourly DashMart roles such as kitchen operations associate and shift lead ask for a high school diploma or GED and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. The shift lead posting asks applicants to be at least 18 and says DoorDash provides food handling certificate training.
- Corporate roles list years of experience and specific skills. Many engineering postings now ask for proficiency with AI coding tools across the development lifecycle.
- Some postings give a deadline. One we read asked applicants to apply by a set date because the team was running batch interviews.
If you need an accommodation, DoorDash asks you to tell your recruiting contact when they first get in touch.

Hiring for roles like the ones at DoorDash?
Cohesyve takes a job description, finds candidates, reaches out to them and runs an AI job simulation of the real work, then returns a ranked shortlist. Ten candidates free, no card.
Does DoorDash use AI in hiring?
Yes, and it says so in its postings. Three tools are named:
- Gem, on some corporate postings, "assists our recruiting team by evaluating job related qualifications". DoorDash says trained personnel make the final decisions, with meaningful human review.
- Fountain, on DashMart kitchen postings, scores your screening answers, your resume details and an AI-facilitated virtual interview. It evaluates job-related experience, skills, availability and your structured interview answers.
- Covey, named on postings for New York City jobs, which DoorDash gives job requirements and the applications candidates submit. DoorDash says an independent auditor has reviewed it.
DoorDash says it publishes independent bias audit summaries for all three tools in compliance with New York City Local Law 144.
What is the DoorDash AI virtual interview?
For DashMart kitchen roles, it's a virtual interview run by Fountain's AI. DoorDash says:
- The interview is recorded and transcribed.
- The results are always reviewed by a human before you move to the next step.
- Using the tool is required to progress. DoorDash doesn't offer a manual alternative on preference.
- If you need a reasonable accommodation because of a disability or medical condition, you can ask for an alternative evaluation. DoorDash says to contact support@fountain.com before you start your application.
DoorDash doesn't publish the questions. A structured interview for a kitchen or warehouse role will usually cover your experience, your availability and how you handle the work. Our guide to one-way video interviews explains how recorded interviews work and how to set up for one: a quiet room and a stable connection. DoorDash doesn't publish whether its interview is video or audio.
What is the DoorDash interview process for corporate roles?
DoorDash's postings don't describe a single interview loop, and the number and type of rounds vary by team. What individual postings say:
- One product posting says you'll meet both hiring managers and be considered for two roles, with the final fit decided at a final interview.
- Some San Francisco postings say the role needs availability for on-site interviews.
- One team ran batch interviews against an application deadline.
Most salaried postings say "talk to your recruiter for more information" about details such as compensation. Your recruiter is also the right person to ask how many rounds to expect, what each covers and who you'll meet. Ask early, and write the answers down.
DoorDash interview questions and how to answer them
DoorDash doesn't publish its interview questions. These are questions to prepare for, chosen to match what DoorDash's postings say it wants. Its mission is to "empower local economies", and several postings describe its people this way: we are leaders, we are doers, we are learners, we are customer-obsessed, and we are all DoorDash. DashMart postings add their own expectations: Be an Owner, Delight Customers, Lead, and One Team One Fight.
Use STAR (situation, task, action, result) for the "tell me about a time" questions. Our STAR method guide walks through it.
1. Tell me about yourself.
Keep it under a minute: what you do now, one result you're proud of, and why this role is the next step. End on the part of DoorDash's work that interests you, whether that's merchants, Dashers or customers.
2. Why DoorDash?
Tie your answer to the mission. DoorDash's postings say it wants to move from being the place you order food to the place people turn to "for any and all goods". Name the part of that you want to work on.
3. Tell me about a time you took ownership of a problem nobody owned.
DoorDash says leadership "is not limited to our management team". Pick a problem outside your job description that you picked up anyway. Say what you did, what changed and what you'd do differently.
4. Tell me about something you built or shipped quickly.
DoorDash describes itself as doers who believe "the only way to predict the future is to build it". Choose an example where you moved from idea to result fast. Be clear about the trade-offs you made to go quickly.
5. Tell me about a time you were wrong.
DoorDash says its people aren't "afraid to dig in and uncover the truth, even if it's scary or inconvenient". Pick a real mistake, explain how you found out, and show what you learned and changed.
6. How do you decide what matters most to the customer?
DoorDash calls itself customer-obsessed and names three groups: customers, merchants and Dashers. Show how you found out what a customer actually needed, ideally with data, and what you did about it.
7. Tell me about a decision you made with incomplete data.
DoorDash's postings say its mission shapes how people "move quickly, learn, and reiterate in order to make impactful decisions". Describe how you decided, how you checked the result and what you changed once you knew more.
8. Tell me about a time you worked across teams to get something done.
"We are all DoorDash" is about people working together towards big goals. Pick an example with real friction between teams and show how you got agreement.
9. For engineering roles: how do you use AI coding tools in your work?
Many DoorDash engineering postings ask for proficiency with AI coding tools across design, code generation, testing, monitoring and release. Give a concrete example: what you used, where it helped, and how you checked its output.
10. For DashMart roles: tell me about a time you kept quality up when it was busy.
DashMart postings ask you to make sure every order or meal meets quality and accuracy standards, and to follow food safety rules. Describe a rush where you kept standards and still got the work out.
11. For DashMart roles: tell me about a time you helped a teammate.
"One Team One Fight" means supporting both the warehouse and the kitchen and leading by example. Show that you step in without being asked and treat teammates with respect.
12. What is your availability?
DashMart kitchen postings list morning, day, evening, weekend and part-time shifts, and Fountain evaluates availability. Give an honest answer that matches your application.
For more practice material, our list of behavioural interview questions has a wider bank, and our situational interview questions cover "what would you do if" prompts.
How long does the DoorDash hiring process take?
DoorDash doesn't publish a timeline. Some postings give an application deadline or a target fill date, which tells you roughly when that team wants to decide. For everything else, ask your recruiter.
How to prepare for a DoorDash interview
- Read the posting twice. Note every skill it lists. Your examples should map to them.
- Ask your recruiter how many rounds there are, what each covers and who you'll meet.
- Prepare five or six STAR stories that show ownership, speed, learning from a mistake, customer focus and working across teams.
- Know the three sides of DoorDash: customers, merchants and Dashers. Have a view on what each needs.
- For a Fountain interview, set up somewhere quiet with a stable connection, and treat it like a live interview.
- Practise out loud with someone who will give you honest feedback. Our mock interview guide shows how.
- Prepare two or three questions about the team, its goals and how success is measured.
Practising realistic work tasks
Interviews reward prepared stories, and the job itself rewards good judgement on real problems. Both improve with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn't affiliated with DoorDash and doesn't use DoorDash's assessments or questions.
FAQs
Is the DoorDash AI interview reviewed by a person?
Yes. DoorDash says Fountain interviews and their results are always reviewed by a human reviewer before you progress to the next step.
Can I skip the DoorDash AI interview?
Not by preference. DoorDash says the tool is required, but you can request an alternative evaluation as a reasonable accommodation for a disability or medical condition. Contact support@fountain.com before you start your application.
Will DoorDash ever ask me to pay during hiring?
No. Every DoorDash posting says DoorDash, Deliveroo and Wolt will never ask you to pay money or share sensitive financial information during hiring. Treat any request like that as a scam.
Does DoorDash hire people with criminal records?
DoorDash's postings say that, under the San Francisco and Los Angeles fair chance ordinances and similar local rules, it will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records in line with those rules.
Is applying to be a Dasher the same as applying for a DoorDash job?
No. The jobs on DoorDash's board are roles such as DashMart associates, engineers and sales staff. Delivering as a Dasher isn't listed there, and this guide doesn't cover Dasher sign-up.
How do I ask for an accommodation in DoorDash's hiring process?
DoorDash asks you to tell your recruiting contact when they first get in touch. For a Fountain interview, contact support@fountain.com before you apply.
