Zillow Application Process and Interviews in 2026

The short answer

You apply to Zillow online: find a role on its careers site, then submit your application on Zillow Group’s Workday job site. Each posting says whether the job is Office, Remote or Field. Zillow doesn’t publish its interview stages or a timeline, but it does publish interview prep guidance on its careers site, and a recruiter is your contact once you’re in process.

  • Office roles mean working at a Zillow Group office for about 80 to 100 percent of the time each month.
  • Zillow says it never asks candidates for ID documents or bank details during the interview process.
  • For accommodations, Zillow’s postings ask you to contact your recruiter directly.
  • Zillow doesn’t publish interview rounds, assessments or how long hiring takes.

The Zillow application process starts on its careers site, where "Explore roles" takes you to Zillow Group's job site on Workday. You apply there for a specific role. Each posting says where the work happens, and Zillow publishes interview prep guidance on its careers site.

Zillow doesn't publish its interview stages, assessments or a hiring timeline in the pages we checked. Everything here comes from Zillow's own careers pages and job postings, linked as we go. Where Zillow doesn't say something, we say so.

What is the Zillow application process?

You find a role, then apply for it online. The careers site's "Explore roles" and "Search Jobs" links both go to Zillow Group's job site, where every open role has its own posting and application.

Zillow Group includes brands such as Zillow, Zillow Home Loans, Zillow Rentals, Trulia, StreetEasy, HotPads, ShowingTime, Follow Up Boss and dotloop, according to its investor overview. The careers site also has pages for teams, students, events, and Zillow's offices in Mexico and India.

If nothing fits yet, join Zillow's Talent Network from the careers home page to connect with roles that fit you.

How do you read a Zillow job posting?

Each posting tells you how the role works under Cloud HQ, Zillow's approach to distributed work. Zillow says that, depending on location and role, some employees work from home full-time and others from an office a few days a week. Postings put each job in a category:

CategoryWhat Zillow's postings say
OfficeYou work at a Zillow Group office for about 80 to 100 percent of your time each month, and live within reasonable commuting distance.
RemoteNo permanent office; you work from a location of your choice, which you identify to the company.
FieldMost of your work is in a geographic area set by your management team, and you live within reasonable commuting distance of it.

Check the category before you apply, and only apply for arrangements you can work with. Postings also list the skills Zillow wants under "Who you are". Match your application and interview examples to that list.

Does Zillow have an assessment?

Zillow doesn't publish one in the pages we checked, for technical or non-technical roles. If your recruiter sends you a test or exercise, ask what it covers, how long to allow and what tools you may use.

What is the Zillow interview process?

Zillow doesn't set out its interview stages, the number of rounds or their format in the pages we checked. It does publish an Interview Prep page on its careers site; read it before your interviews. Your recruiter is your contact during the process, and can tell you who you'll meet and what each conversation covers.

Two things Zillow does say about interviews:

  • Accommodations: postings say that if you have a disability or need that requires an accommodation, contact your recruiter directly.
  • Scams: Zillow "never asks candidates for personal information, identification documents, or bank details during the interview process", and never requires you to make purchases or payments as a condition of an offer. Report anything suspicious to careers@zillowgroup.com.

Prepare examples in STAR form (situation, task, action, result), so you can answer "tell me about a time" questions with specifics.

Zillow interview questions and how to answer them

These are common interview questions, matched to what Zillow publicly says about itself. Zillow doesn't publish the questions it asks.

Zillow's mission is "reimagining real estate to make home a reality for more and more people". Its careers site describes a culture of innovation, a passion to redefine the customer experience and a commitment to engagement and belonging. Use these as the backbone of your answers.

1. Tell me about yourself.

Keep it to about a minute: your current role, one or two strengths that match the posting's "Who you are" list, and why this team at Zillow is your next step.

2. Why do you want to work at Zillow?

Be specific. Zillow describes its vision as "the housing super app", one place for buying, selling, financing and renting. Connect your answer to the part of that your team works on, or to something recent, such as Zillow's real estate app in ChatGPT, which it launched in 2025.

3. Tell me about a time you improved a customer's experience.

Zillow says it wants to redefine the customer experience. Pick an example where you found a point of friction, changed something and can show the result.

4. Tell me about an idea you had that turned into a real change.

Zillow describes a culture that encourages people to share ideas and get the support to turn them into innovations. Show how you raised the idea, who you brought along and what shipped.

5. How do you work with a team you rarely see in person?

Cloud HQ means many teams are distributed. Talk about how you keep others informed, make decisions in writing and build relationships without an office.

6. Tell me about a time you made a decision with data.

Zillow's Data Science Intern posting asks for "independent judgment" and "validating outputs" when using AI tools, and the same care applies to data. Show what the data said, what it didn't, and what you decided.

7. How do you use AI tools in your work?

Zillow's Data Science Intern posting asks for curiosity about AI tools "while maintaining independent judgment, validating outputs". Give an example where you used a tool, checked what it produced and caught something wrong.

8. Tell me about a time you made a team more inclusive.

Engagement and belonging is part of what Zillow calls its core. Give a practical example, such as changing how a meeting ran so remote colleagues could contribute.

9. Describe a time you explained something complex to a non-expert.

Buying, selling or renting a home is confusing for most people. Show how you simplified without losing accuracy, and how you checked the person understood.

10. Tell me about a time you had to move fast with an unclear brief.

Show how you clarified the goal, made progress and adjusted as you learned.

11. Tell me about a mistake you made and what you changed afterwards.

Zillow describes a culture of innovation, and new ideas don't always work. Be honest and specific, and spend most of the answer on what you changed.

12. What questions do you have for us?

Ask about the team's goals for the year, how it works across locations under Cloud HQ, and what success looks like in the first few months.

What happens after the Zillow interview?

Zillow doesn't describe its offer stage in the pages we checked. Ask your recruiter at the end of each interview what the next step is and when you'll hear. Remember Zillow's advisory: a genuine Zillow offer won't ask you to pay for anything.

How to prepare for the Zillow application and interviews

  1. Pick roles whose category fits you: Office, Remote or Field.
  2. Tailor your application to the posting's "Who you are" list.
  3. Read Zillow's Interview Prep page on its careers site.
  4. Learn Zillow's mission and brands, and the one your team works on.
  5. Prepare five or six STAR stories covering customers, ideas, data, distributed teamwork and a mistake. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
  6. Practise out loud, ideally in a mock interview with someone who'll give honest feedback.
  7. Ask for any accommodation early, through your recruiter.

Practising realistic work tasks

Interviews reward prepared stories. Work exercises reward judgement, and that improves with practice on realistic tasks. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with Zillow and doesn't use Zillow's assessments or questions.
