Snowflake's hiring process has three steps: apply, interview and decide. For engineering roles, Snowflake publishes four stages: a 30-minute initial screen, 60-minute technical interviews, a panel of three to five 60-minute interviews, and a decision. Snowflake says the process can take up to two to four weeks.
Everything below comes from Snowflake's careers site, its candidate blog posts and its Code of Conduct, linked as we go. Where Snowflake doesn't say something, we say so. The interview questions are ones to prepare for, built on Snowflake's published values.
Snowflake hiring process at a glance
| Stage | What happens | Length Snowflake gives |
|---|---|---|

Snowflake says the process varies by team and role, and some roles add steps.
What is the Snowflake hiring process?
You apply, and if your skills match an open job, a hiring manager or recruiter contacts you. Snowflake says most jobs involve one or more phone screens and onsite or video interviews. After that, you and the team decide whether it's the right match, and Snowflake makes an offer.
Engineering roles follow the four stages in the table. Snowflake says its interview process is tailored to each position. Snowflake's guide to applying and interviewing says you'll usually meet the hiring manager, stakeholders and future teammates, in panels or one-on-ones, and that it tells you in advance who you'll meet.

Hiring for roles like the ones at Snowflake?
Cohesyve takes a job description, finds candidates, reaches out to them and runs an AI job simulation of the real work, then returns a ranked shortlist. Ten candidates free, no card.
How do you apply to Snowflake?
Find a role on careers.snowflake.com, click apply and upload your resume. If you know someone at Snowflake, you can send them your resume to refer you internally. There's no limit on the number of jobs you can apply to.
Snowflake's resume advice:
- Tailor it to the job description, qualifications and keywords.
- Add data. Show what you achieved, how, and how you measured it.
- Show how you applied your skills, tools and languages to make an impact.
- Keep it to one or two pages, with three to five bullet points per role.
- Add links to your portfolio, projects and LinkedIn profile.
- Explain gaps or a first job with coursework, projects, internships, volunteering or caregiving.
Snowflake also says everything you submit in the application, including answers to questions, must be written by you.
What is the Snowflake initial screen?
It's a call with a recruiter and/or the hiring manager about your experience and the role. For engineering, Snowflake says it's 30 minutes and focuses on your technical skill set. In general it's typically 30 to 45 minutes.
Snowflake notes that your first meeting may be with your future manager. Treat it as a real interview: know why you want this team and be ready to talk through your most relevant work. Use it to ask about the rest of the process too.
What are Snowflake's technical interviews?
For engineering roles, the technical interviews are 60 minutes each and cover coding and/or system design, with live coding questions. Snowflake says it provides details on what to expect and materials to help you prepare.
Snowflake's AI guidance for candidates sets the rules:
- No coding or AI assistants in coding interviews.
- No AI for written assessments, take-home projects or technical exercises.
- One coding interview is held in person, which Snowflake says helps it verify the work is your own.
- AI is fine for preparation: polishing your resume, running mock interviews, and researching Snowflake's platform and values.
What happens in the Snowflake panel interview?
The panel is three to five 60-minute interviews with several Snowflake team members. Snowflake lists technical, expertise, system design, behavioural and collaboration interviews. Depending on your level and role, it may include a 30-minute Tech Talk, a presentation to the team.
Depending on the role, Snowflake says you may be asked to create and present a deck, complete a writing assignment or another small project. It tells you early if that's part of the process.
Does Snowflake have an online assessment?
For technical internships, yes. Snowflake's internship FAQ says technical roles use coding assessments as the first step, followed by technical interviews. For other roles it publishes no online test, though some teams set the assignments above.
Snowflake doesn't name the platform it uses or what the assessment contains. If your invitation comes from HackerRank or CodeSignal, our guides to the HackerRank test and the CodeSignal GCA explain how those formats work in general.
How long does the Snowflake hiring process take?
For engineering roles, Snowflake says up to two to four weeks. The team typically debriefs within a few days of your final interview, then contacts you with a decision.
If you haven't heard back within 30 days of applying, Snowflake says your skills and qualifications probably didn't align with that role. For internships, it aims to respond to every application within two to three weeks.
What happens after the Snowflake interview?
If the team and you both want to go ahead, Snowflake makes an offer covering compensation, equity and benefits. It then runs reference checks and a standard pre-employment background check in line with local labour laws. On day one, new hires attend orientation, enrol in benefits and set up their laptop.
What Snowflake looks for: its values
Snowflake's careers site says it hires people who "think big, push boundaries, and build with purpose". Its Code of Conduct (February 2026) lists eight values:
| Value | What it asks for |
|---|---|
| Put Customers First | Understand customers' needs and pain points; succeed when they succeed |
| Integrity Always | Be open and honest, speak up candidly, debate respectfully, then commit fully |
| Think Big | Ambitious goals, focus on what matters, prudent risks |
| Be Excellent | High standards, common sense, simplicity, balancing today and tomorrow |
| Get it Done | Results, precision, accountability, follow-through |
| Own It | Take ownership; if you make a mistake, own it, fix it, learn from it and move on |
| Make Each Other The Best | Kindness, collaboration, giving and asking for feedback |
| Embrace Each Other's Differences | Appreciate people from every walk of life and use differences to get stronger |
The behavioural and collaboration interviews are where these come up most. Have a story ready for each.
Snowflake interview questions and how to answer them
These are questions to prepare for, not a list Snowflake publishes. Each answer guide ties back to Snowflake's values or its published process.
1. Why Snowflake?
Snowflake encourages you to research its platform, customers and values before you apply. Name something specific: a product area, a customer story or the team's work. Then connect it to what you want to build or learn.
2. Walk me through your background and why this team.
Often the first question in the initial screen, which may be with your future manager. Keep it to two minutes, focus on the work most relevant to this team, and end with why you applied.
3. Tell me about a time you solved a problem for a customer.
This is Put Customers First. Show how you found out what the customer actually needed, what you changed, and how you knew it worked. Internal customers count.
4. Tell me about a time you disagreed with a decision.
This is Integrity Always. Snowflake asks people to speak up candidly, debate respectfully, then commit fully once a decision is made. Show all three steps, including the commitment if the decision went the other way.
5. Tell me about a mistake you made and what you did about it.
Own It uses almost these words: own it, fix it, learn from it and move on. Pick a real mistake, take responsibility plainly and spend most of the answer on the fix and the lesson.
6. Tell me about the most ambitious goal you've worked towards.
This is Think Big. Explain the goal, the risk you took and how you judged it was a prudent one, and what the result was, including what didn't work.
7. Tell me about a result you're proud of. How did you measure it?
Snowflake's resume advice is to show what you achieved and how you measured it. Bring the same habit to the interview: give the numbers, the method and your part in it. This is Get it Done.
8. Tell me about a time you gave someone difficult feedback.
This is Make Each Other The Best. Show that you were specific and kind, and that it helped the other person. A time you asked for feedback and acted on it works too.
9. Tell me about working with someone whose approach was very different from yours.
This is Embrace Each Other's Differences. Show how you learned from the difference and how it improved the result.
10. Solve this coding problem.
The live coding rounds have no AI or coding assistants. Talk through your approach before you write code, start with a working solution, test it with examples, then improve it. Say out loud what trade-offs you're making.
11. Design a system that handles a large volume of data.
For system design rounds, clarify requirements and scale first, sketch the main components, then go deep on storage, data flow and failure cases. Snowflake is a data platform company, so expect interviewers to probe how data is stored, moved and queried. Our guide to database interview questions is a useful refresher.
12. Present a project you've built.
For roles that include the 30-minute Tech Talk. Choose a project you know deeply, explain the problem, your design choices and the result, and leave time for questions. Practise it to time.
13. What questions do you have for us?
Ask about the team's current priorities, how success is measured in the first months, and what the rest of the process looks like.
How to prepare for a Snowflake interview
- Research Snowflake before you apply: its platform, customer stories, leadership and values. Snowflake says it likes candidates who take the time to know it.
- Prepare a story for each value, using the STAR method for the behavioural round. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you more to practise on.
- Practise live coding without help. Snowflake bans coding and AI assistants in coding interviews, so practise in a plain editor, talking as you go.
- Revise system design if you're applying for an engineering role, and prepare a project you could present as a Tech Talk.
- Plan for both formats. For video, test your connection and join Zoom about five minutes early. In person, arrive at least 10 minutes early. Snowflake suggests business casual.
- Do a mock interview with someone who'll push back on your answers.
- Ask for accommodations if you need them. Snowflake says to tell it, or email snowflakecareers@snowflake.com.
Practising realistic work tasks
Snowflake's assignments and technical rounds ask you to show the work itself. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with Snowflake and doesn't use Snowflake's interview questions or assessments.
