Roblox's interview process for early career roles has five documented stages: application, an online assessment, results, virtual onsite interviews, and an offer with team matching. Roblox calls the assessment "your first interview", and it replaces the usual resume screen. Everything below comes from Roblox's own early career page, its newsroom and its values page, linked as we go.
Roblox documents its early career process in detail. It doesn't publish the process for experienced hires, so if you're applying for a senior role, ask your recruiter what to expect.
The Roblox hiring process at a glance
| Stage | What Roblox says | Timing Roblox gives |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Application | Apply for an internship, full-time early career role or PhD role at careers.roblox.com. | Not published |
| 2. Online assessment | Game-based problem solving, decision-making scenarios and, for technical roles, a coding evaluation. | Take them at once or over a week |
| 3. Results | Roblox calibrates results before following up. | "Within a few weeks" of finishing |
| 4. Virtual onsite interviews | Roblox's prep partner, Speak_, runs courses covering these stages. | Not published |
| 5. Offer and team matching | For software engineering roles, you rank team preferences and Roblox matches you. | A few weeks before your first day |
What is the Roblox hiring process?
For interns, new grads and PhD candidates, you apply, complete Roblox's assessments, and if you pass you interview with the team in virtual onsite stages. After you accept an offer, Roblox matches you to a team. Roblox's Fair Play article says its assessments replace the traditional resume review, "providing an opportunity for everyone who passes the evaluation to interview with the team".
Who Roblox hires through early careers
Roblox's October 2026 early careers article lists internships in software engineering, AI/ML, product design and product management, full-time early career roles, and PhD roles. Internships are open to all class levels, from underclassmen to master's students. Roblox also runs a Community Apprenticeship: a 12-week paid programme for Roblox creators and developers, with no degree enrolment required, working on Lua-focused projects.
Roblox's prep page on Speak_ adds that referrals get no preferential treatment, so you can apply directly.

Cohesyve takes a job description, finds candidates, reaches out to them and runs an AI job simulation of the real work, then returns a ranked shortlist. Ten candidates free, no card.
What is the Roblox online assessment?
The Roblox online assessment is a set of tests that early career applicants complete as the first step, built by Roblox and partly played on Roblox itself. Roblox lists three parts:
| Part | What Roblox says | Who takes it |
|---|---|---|
| Problem solving | "A series of game-based assessments" built on Roblox, showing how you approach and solve problems. Roblox names Robots and Factories. | Early career applicants |
| Decision making | "A series of workplace scenarios" assessing how you make decisions. | Early career applicants |
| Coding skills | A coding evaluation plus an assessment of algorithmic reasoning, "entirely unique to Roblox". | All technical applications |
Roblox also names Outpost: Mars, a block-coding game, without saying which part it belongs to.
Roblox says the assessments measure "higher-order thinking, problem-solving, analytical communication, and decision-making", with challenges "like designing a factory workflow or building robots". It also says there "isn't always one 'right' way to solve a problem" and that it's interested in your approach.
Roblox doesn't publish timings, question counts, scoring or a pass mark. Treat any numbers you read elsewhere as unconfirmed.
How to practise for the Roblox assessment
Roblox gives you two free practice games, both replayable and untimed:
- Kaiju Cats mirrors the gameplay interface and strategic tactics of Robots and Factories. Roblox's prep page calls it the number one recommended practice for the problem-solving assessments.
- Coding Cookies builds familiarity with the block-coding interface used in Outpost: Mars. Roblox's prep page says nothing in it is measured or affects your results.
For the decision-making part, our guide to situational judgement tests explains how workplace-scenario tests work in general. For background on game-based tests from another provider, see our guide to Pymetrics games; Roblox's games are its own.
Tips from Roblox's own article
In the Fair Play article, an early career engineer who went through the assessment advised:
- Don't fixate on any one section. Roblox looks at your performance as a whole.
- Take short breaks between sections to reset.
- Be deliberate in the problem-solving section, because you may be asked to explain your strategy later.
- Don't hunt for one optimal solution. Applicants succeeded with many different approaches.
If you need more time, Roblox says you can request an extension through a support ticket, and assessment questions go to assessments-support@roblox.com.
How long does the Roblox hiring process take?
Roblox doesn't publish an end-to-end timeline. It does say:
- You can take the assessments all at once or pace them over a week.
- After you finish, you'll hear back within a few weeks, while Roblox calibrates results.
- For software engineering roles, team matching happens a few weeks before your first day.
It doesn't publish how long the interview stages or the offer take.
What are the Roblox interview rounds?
Roblox describes its early career interviews as "virtual onsite interview stages" but doesn't publish how many rounds there are or what each covers. Its prep partner, Speak_, splits preparation into two levels: assessments (for applicable roles) and interviews, with modules, live workshops, mock interviews and recruiter office hours depending on your role. Roblox also suggests exploring its Roblox Careers Center, an experience on Roblox itself, to learn how the company works.
For experienced hires, Roblox doesn't publish an interview process.
What happens after a Roblox offer?
For software engineering roles, incoming interns and full-time hires go through team matching. Roblox says you'll learn about the available teams and their work, rank your preferences, and be matched to a team a few weeks before your first day. Roblox doesn't describe team matching for other roles. Every intern and new grad is paired with a mentor and a manager, according to Roblox's early careers article.
Roblox interview questions and how to answer them
Roblox doesn't publish its interview questions. These are the questions to prepare for, built from Roblox's Builder Framework, its values and operating principles, and what it says its assessments evaluate. For "tell me about a time" questions, use the STAR method: situation, task, action, result.
1. Why do you want to work at Roblox?
Roblox's mission is "to connect a billion people every day with optimism and civility". Connect your answer to that and to one area you'd like to work on, such as safety, the creator tools, the engine or infrastructure. If you play or build on Roblox, say what you've made or what you'd improve.
2. Tell me about a time you made a short-term decision with the long term in mind.
This tests "Take the Long View": Roblox sets "a long-term vision first, even when making short term decisions". Describe a choice where you accepted a slower start to build something that would last.
3. Tell me about something you shipped by iterating quickly.
"Get Stuff Done" means "taking initiative, and relentlessly iterating towards long-term goals". Show the versions you went through, what you learned from each and what you shipped.
4. Tell me about a time you put users ahead of your team's interests.
"Respect the Community" says Roblox prioritises "community before company, company before team, and team before individual". Pick an example where you changed a plan because it was better for the people using your work.
5. Tell me about a mistake you made and what you did about it.
"We Are Responsible" means being accountable for "both the intended and unintended consequences" of your actions. Choose a real mistake, explain what it affected, how you fixed it and what you changed so it wouldn't happen again.
6. Tell me about the hardest problem you've worked on.
One of Roblox's operating principles is "Solve the hard problems first". Explain why the problem was hard, how you broke it down, and the first step you took on the long-term solution.
7. Tell me about a small thing you fixed that nobody asked you to.
Roblox calls this "the power of picking up a small piece of trash": fixing small things rather than walking past them. A bug, a confusing document or a broken process all work as examples.
8. Tell me about a time you cut scope to make something better.
Roblox's principle "Do less, better" says a great product is "a few things done incredibly well". Describe a time you dropped features or tasks to focus on what mattered most.
9. Walk me through how you approached a problem in the assessment.
Roblox's own article suggests being deliberate in the problem-solving section because you may need to articulate your strategy. Explain what you noticed first, what you tried, what failed and how you adjusted.
10. How would you think about safety in a feature you build?
Roblox's mission mentions civility, and one of its four values is Respect the Community. Show that you'd consider how a feature could be misused and how you'd protect people from the start.
11. Tell me about a time you disagreed with someone more senior.
Roblox supports "skip-level communication in all directions" and expects leaders to encourage open dialogue. Show that you raised the issue respectfully, with evidence, and moved on once a decision was made.
12. What questions do you have for us?
Always have some. Ask about the team's current hard problem, how projects are scoped for new joiners, or how team matching works for your role.
For technical roles, Roblox's coding assessment covers coding and algorithmic reasoning, so practise both alongside these questions. Our list of behavioural interview questions gives you a wider bank to rehearse.
How to prepare for the Roblox interview process
- Play Kaiju Cats and Coding Cookies before your assessment, until the interfaces feel familiar.
- Plan your assessment week. Decide whether to take the parts together or spread them out, and ask for an extension early if you need one.
- Learn Roblox's four values and its operating principles, and prepare one story for each value.
- Use Roblox. Play a few experiences, open the creator tools if you're technical, and visit the Roblox Careers Center.
- Sign up for Roblox's Speak_ prep for the assessment and interview modules that match your role.
- Practise explaining your reasoning out loud, ideally in a mock interview, since Roblox cares about how you approach a problem.
- Prepare questions about the team, the work and team matching.
Practising realistic work tasks
Roblox's assessment tests what you can do on realistic tasks before anyone reads your resume, and that kind of task improves with practice. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for roles such as backend developer and product manager, with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn't affiliated with Roblox and doesn't use Roblox's assessments or questions.
