Intuit Interview Process: Craft Demo, Stages, Questions

The short answer

Intuit’s interview day has five parts: a set-up slot (15 minutes, or 90 for engineers, who solve a technical question), a 60-minute craft demonstration for four members of the hiring team, a 45-minute assessors interview, a 30-minute team member interview on Intuit’s values and a 30 to 60-minute manager interview. Intuit commits to giving you feedback within 24 hours.

  • The craft demo is a case study built around the skills of the role you applied for.
  • Intuit’s five values come up in the team member interview, so prepare examples for each.
  • Intuit doesn’t publish an online assessment or screening steps before interview day.
  • No reply within a week? Intuit asks you to email TalentAcquisition@intuit.com.

Intuit's interview process centres on one day with five parts: a set-up slot, a craft demonstration, an assessors interview, a team member interview and a manager interview. Intuit publishes the length of each and who you'll meet on its hiring process page, and commits to giving you feedback within 24 hours.

Everything below comes from Intuit's own careers and company pages, linked as we go. Where Intuit doesn't say something, we say so.

Intuit says the day usually begins with set-up and the craft demonstration, and that "in some circumstances, adjustments may be made to the interview process". Your recruiter can confirm your schedule.

What is the Intuit hiring process?

You apply through Intuit's job site, and if you're selected you attend the interview day described above. Intuit's careers pages don't describe what happens between applying and interview day, such as recruiter calls or screening interviews, or the steps after feedback.

For students, Intuit runs a 12-week summer internship in the US and co-ops of four months or more in Canada. It doesn't offer US co-ops or fall and spring internships. Placement depends on your interests, skills and business priorities, and Intuit says a full-time offer after an internship isn't guaranteed. Graduates can also apply to programmes such as the two-year Rotational Product Management program, which has three rotations.

What is the Intuit craft demo?

The craft demonstration is a 60-minute session with four members of the hiring team. You start with a short introduction, which Intuit says can include pictures, then work through a case study "designed for you to demonstrate the skills you have for the role you're interviewing for".

For engineers, the 90-minute set-up slot before it is part of the exercise: you solve a technical question on your own, then present it in the craft demo. Intuit doesn't publish the case studies themselves, so treat any "real Intuit case" you find online as unconfirmed.

To prepare:

  • Rehearse your introduction so it stays short and leaves time for the case.
  • Explain your reasoning as you go. Four people are watching how you think as well as where you end up.
  • Connect the work to the customer. Customer Obsession is one of Intuit's values, so say who the solution is for and what problem it solves for them.
  • Expect follow-up questions on the case in the assessors interview that comes next.

Does Intuit have an online assessment?

Intuit's hiring process page doesn't mention an online assessment, coding test or screening test before interview day. The technical work it describes happens during the 90-minute set-up and the craft demo.

If you receive an online test invitation, it will name the platform. Our guides to the HackerRank test and the CodeSignal General Coding Assessment explain how those common formats work, but we haven't confirmed that Intuit uses either.

What happens in the Intuit assessors interview?

You meet two interviewers whose work is close to the role you applied for, for 45 minutes. They go deeper into your skills and experience and follow up on your craft demo, so be ready to defend choices you made in the case study and say what you would change with more time.

What happens in the Intuit team member interview?

This is a 30-minute interview with one assessor. Intuit says "often you'll be asked questions around the Intuit values we've identified to be essential to the success of this role", and you'll also talk about the environments where you do your best work.

Intuit lists five operating values:

ValueWhat Intuit says
Integrity Without CompromiseSpeak the truth, assume best intent, do the right thing when no one is looking
CourageBe bold, hold a high bar for performance, value speed and a bias for learning and action
Customer ObsessionFall in love with customers' problems and sweat every detail of the experience
Stronger TogetherChampion diversity and inclusion, use diverse voices to challenge decisions, deliver results others can count on
We Care And Give BackBe stewards of the future and strengthen the communities around us

What happens in the Intuit manager interview?

You meet one people manager who supports roles like yours, for 30 to 60 minutes. Intuit says this covers your motivation, experience, key successes and learnings, and career development, and suggests you prepare by "highlighting your professional development, key successes and learnings". It's also your chance to ask questions, so bring some.

How long does Intuit take to give feedback?

Intuit says: "We commit to giving you feedback within 24 hours of you interviewing with us." If you don't hear back within a week, it asks you to email TalentAcquisition@intuit.com. It doesn't publish how long the full process takes from application to offer.

Common Intuit interview questions

Intuit hasn't published a list of questions. These are questions to prepare for, built from the topics Intuit says each interview covers.

1. Tell us about yourself.

This opens the craft demo. Keep it short, cover what you do and what you're proud of, and lead into the skills the case study will test.

2. Walk us through how you approached this case study.

The core of the craft demo. State the problem, your assumptions, the options you considered and why you chose one. Mention who the customer is.

3. What would you do differently with more time?

Assessors follow up on the case. Name one or two real limitations of your solution and how you'd address them; it shows the high bar Intuit's Courage value describes.

4. Tell me about a time you solved a problem for a customer.

Customer Obsession asks you to "fall in love with our customers' problems". Choose an example where you dug past the request to the root of a customer's problem.

5. Describe a time you made a bold call with incomplete information.

This tests Courage, which includes "speed, a bias for learning and action". Explain the risk, why you moved anyway and what you learned.

6. Tell me about a time you had to deliver a hard truth.

Integrity Without Compromise starts with "We speak the truth and assume best intent". Show that you were honest and still kept the relationship.

7. Describe a time someone with a different view changed your mind.

Stronger Together says Intuit thrives on "diverse voices to challenge and inform decisions". Give a real example where the outcome was better because you listened.

8. Tell me about a commitment others relied on you to deliver.

Also Stronger Together: "We deliver exceptional results so others can count on us." Pick an example with a clear deadline and stakes for other people.

9. Where do you do your best work?

Intuit says the team member interview covers the environments where you do your best work. Be specific and honest about the conditions you need, such as clear goals or close collaboration.

10. What has been your biggest professional success, and what did you learn?

The manager interview asks for key successes and learnings. Give the result, your part in it and one lesson you've applied since.

11. Why Intuit?

Link your answer to Intuit's mission "to power prosperity around the world" and to the product and customers you'd work on in this role.

12. Where do you want your career to go?

The manager interview covers career development. Show a direction that fits the role and how you plan to keep learning.

How to prepare for the Intuit interview process

  1. Ask your recruiter for your schedule and what the craft demo involves for your role.
  2. Rehearse the craft demo intro and practise thinking aloud through a case in your field.
  3. For engineering roles, practise solving a problem alone and then presenting it, since that's how the set-up and craft demo work together.
  4. Prepare one story per Intuit value, plus a few on successes and learnings.
  5. Use one of Intuit's products and form a view on a customer problem it solves.
  6. Test your set-up if you're interviewing remotely; Intuit's set-up slot is there for that.
  7. Run a mock interview with someone who'll play the four-person hiring team.

Practising realistic work tasks

The craft demo rewards doing the real work well under observation. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. It isn't affiliated with Intuit and doesn't use Intuit's assessments or questions.
