HubSpot Interview Process 2026: Stages and Questions

The short answer

HubSpot’s interview process has seven stages: application, recruiter phone interview, a role-dependent assessment (often a take-home such as a role play, coding test or content assignment), a hiring manager phone interview, face-to-face interviews over Zoom with 3 to 5 HubSpot employees, a decision after the team debriefs, and onboarding. HubSpot says it follows up on applications within 5 days.

  • From the manager interview onwards, HubSpot gives personalised feedback if it decides not to proceed.
  • Interviews run over Zoom. Engineers can code in the language of their choice on their own laptop and IDE.
  • HubSpot calls its hiring “human-led, AI-accelerated”: AI helps with screening and scheduling, and people make the decisions.
  • HubSpot doesn’t publish an overall timeline or how its take-home assessments are scored.

The HubSpot interview process has seven stages, from application to onboarding, and HubSpot publishes all of them on its candidate experience page. The interviews themselves happen over Zoom, and depending on the role there's an assessment such as a take-home task. HubSpot says the process can vary by role.

Everything below comes from HubSpot's own careers pages, linked as we go. Where HubSpot doesn't say something, we say so.

What is the HubSpot interview process?

You apply, speak to a recruiter, complete an assessment if the role has one, speak to the hiring manager, then meet 3 to 5 HubSpot employees over Zoom before the team decides. HubSpot doesn't publish how long each stage takes or how long the whole process usually runs.

The application

Apply through HubSpot's jobs page. HubSpot's Talent Acquisition team reviews applications and says it follows up within 5 days about whether it will move forward. HubSpot's AI hiring page says AI helps match skills and experience to open roles and assists with keyword screening, and that recruiters decide who moves on. Use the job description's own language for the skills you really have.

If there's no open role that fits, HubSpot runs a Talent Community you can join, and has a separate Emerging Talent page.

The recruiter phone interview

The recruiter for the role learns about your background and answers your questions about the job. HubSpot says not to expect personalised feedback at this stage. Have a short answer ready for why HubSpot and why this role, and use the call to ask what the assessment and later interviews will involve.

Does HubSpot have an assessment?

Some roles do. HubSpot says the assessment depends on the role and gives three examples of take-home tasks: a role play, a coding test or a content assignment. It doesn't publish how long they take, how they're scored or whether there's a pass mark.

HubSpot's AI hiring page says AI may help design skills assessments or standardise scoring, but recruiters and hiring managers review the work. Some roles may also include AI-related questions or assessments, and HubSpot says it will explain the context when that happens.

A few points that apply to any take-home:

  • Ask the recruiter what the task is meant to show and how much time to spend on it.
  • Do what the brief asks before adding extras. A finished, clear answer beats an ambitious, half-done one.
  • Be ready to talk it through. If your work comes up in later interviews, you'll need to explain your choices.

What happens in the HubSpot manager interview?

The hiring manager talks with you about the work and assesses your skills and experience, by phone. From this stage onwards, HubSpot says it gives personalised feedback if it decides not to proceed. Prepare two or three examples that match the biggest responsibilities in the job description, with results you can describe.

What are HubSpot's face-to-face interviews like?

They're over Zoom, with 3 to 5 HubSpot employees. HubSpot doesn't publish how long each one lasts or what each interviewer covers for non-engineering roles. If HubSpot doesn't proceed after this stage, it tells you by email and offers a feedback call.

HubSpot's AI page says the tool BrightHire may support note-taking in interviews, and that the interview panel scores and decides together in a live debrief.

HubSpot's software engineering interviews

HubSpot publishes a separate engineering interview prep page:

TrackInterviews
FrontendJavaScript (core concepts, not frameworks), coding (algorithms, then optimising, scaling and debugging), front end systems design (no coding)
BackendSystems design (a common web application from the ground up), coding (same format as frontend), technical deep dive (Senior Software Engineer II candidates walk through a complex project they led)
  • Your tools: write code in a language of your choice, on your own laptop and IDE, sharing your screen over Zoom.
  • Outside help: HubSpot's page says you can use Google and Stack Overflow during the interview.
  • No brain teasers. HubSpot says it focuses on writing and understanding code, working with others and solving real problems.
  • Think out loud. Explain how you read the problem and the trade-offs you weigh.
  • Get it working first, then optimise.
  • "I don't know" is fine. HubSpot says the interviewer will work through the problem with you.

Each interview opens and closes with time for your questions, so come with some about the team's technical work, the business and the culture.

What happens after the HubSpot interviews?

The hiring team debriefs, then you receive either an offer or feedback for future interviews. After you accept, the recruiting team sends onboarding details. HubSpot says onboarding is virtual by region, except full-time Engineering roles, which onboard in person at a regional office, with alternatives for candidates with travel limitations or other needs.

HubSpot says it typically sponsors visas for highly specialised roles, critical business needs or unique circumstances, depending on the role, your qualifications, the country and local immigration law. If you need an accommodation at any stage, HubSpot has an accessibility request form on its candidate experience page.

Does HubSpot use AI in hiring?

Yes, with people making the decisions. HubSpot describes its hiring as "human-led, AI-accelerated". By its own account, AI helps with matching, keyword screening, scheduling, assessment design and paperwork, while recruiters decide who moves forward and the interview panel decides together.

HubSpot also says you don't need to be an AI expert to apply, but that it values curiosity and openness to using AI.

HubSpot interview questions and how to answer them

HubSpot doesn't publish a question list. These are questions to prepare for, based on the stages above and HubSpot's culture commitments on its careers page: Solve for the Customer; Be Bold. Learn Fast.; Align, Adapt & Go!; and Deliver with HEART, where HEART stands for humble, empathetic, adaptable, remarkable and transparent. HubSpot says its Culture Code "guides how we build, hire, and lead".

Use the STAR structure (situation, task, action, result) for the "tell me about a time" questions. Our STAR method guide walks through it.

1. Tell me about yourself.

Keep it to your last two or three roles and the thread that leads to this job. End with why this team at HubSpot, in one sentence.

2. Why HubSpot?

Name something specific: a product you've used, the customers HubSpot serves, or one of its culture commitments that matches how you work. HubSpot describes itself as "remote-first, trust-driven, and results-oriented"; if that suits you, say why with an example.

3. Tell me about a time you solved for the customer.

"Solve for the Customer" is HubSpot's first commitment. Pick a story where you changed a plan, a product or a process because of what a customer needed, and show the result for them, not only for your team.

4. Tell me about a time you tried something bold that didn't work.

"Be Bold. Learn Fast." rewards taking a considered risk and learning from it. Say what you tried, why, what went wrong and what you changed afterwards. A clear lesson matters more than the failure.

5. Tell me about a time priorities changed suddenly.

HubSpot lists "Align, Adapt & Go!" among its culture commitments, so a story about adapting to a change fits it. Show how you got clear on the new goal, re-planned your work and kept others informed.

6. Tell me about a time you got difficult feedback.

Humble and transparent are both part of HEART. Describe the feedback honestly, how you reacted at first, and what you did differently afterwards.

7. Tell me about a disagreement with a colleague.

Empathy is in HEART too. Show that you understood the other person's view, found what you agreed on and reached a decision together, even if you didn't get your way.

8. What's the most remarkable piece of work you've done?

"Remarkable" is HEART's R. Choose work with a measurable result, explain your own part in it clearly and say what made it better than the usual standard.

9. How do you use AI in your work?

HubSpot says it values curiosity and openness to using AI, and some roles include AI-related questions. Give one or two real examples of how you use AI tools, what you check by hand and where you don't rely on them.

10. How do you stay effective when working remotely?

HubSpot calls itself remote-first and results-oriented. Talk about how you plan your work, communicate progress in writing and stay connected to your team without being in the same room.

11. Walk me through your take-home.

If your role had an assessment, expect to discuss it. Explain the brief as you understood it, the choices you made, what you left out and what you'd do with more time.

12. Walk me through a complex project you led. (Engineering)

This is the technical deep dive HubSpot runs for Senior Software Engineer II candidates, and HubSpot's prep page also suggests preparing a project you're proud of and the hardest problems you've solved. Cover the goal, the design decisions, the trade-offs and your own role.

13. What questions do you have for us?

HubSpot's engineering interviews open and close with time for your questions, and it's a common closing question in any interview. Ask about the team's goals for the next year, how success is measured in the role and how the team works across locations.

For more practice material, our list of behavioural interview questions has a wider bank.

How to prepare for HubSpot's interview process

  1. Read the job description closely and match your examples to its main responsibilities.
  2. Learn HubSpot's culture commitments and prepare a story for each: customer, boldness, adapting, and the five HEART values.
  3. Ask the recruiter what the assessment involves and how long to spend on it.
  4. Do the take-home properly, then practise explaining it out loud.
  5. For engineering roles, set up your own laptop and IDE for screen sharing, and practise thinking out loud while you code.
  6. Test your Zoom setup before the face-to-face interviews.
  7. Practise with someone who'll be honest, ideally in a mock interview.
  8. Prepare questions for each interviewer, since every HubSpot engineering interview starts and ends with time for them.

Practising realistic work tasks

HubSpot's assessments are real work: a role play, a coding test or a content assignment. That kind of task improves with practice. Cohesyve, which publishes this guide, runs practice job simulations for your role, with a scored report on where you lost marks. Cohesyve isn't affiliated with HubSpot and doesn't use HubSpot's assessments or questions.
